and I promise you that he might have. 377 You see those are the comments (Jo's) that really piss me off. We go from a mumbled death bed confession to a KNOWN fact that he didn't land in water. Even on the remotest chance that Duane was cooper - I really doubt that he said "I paid Tina $100 for a quickie and landed in a duck pond, got a ride back from the landing spot in a UFO after blowing ckret to ensure that the FBI would forever cover my tracks" Actually on second thoughts maybe he did say that Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I swim pretty much every day to try and keep fit, as I hate the gym and running etc. Well one of the "perks" is the awesome eye candy that is usually on display - similar to the attached pic. There are some days when you simply don't want to stop. Finally one thing that has absolutely amazed me is that when I swim it is usually dominated by elderly people, but goodness some of the ladies are smoking - and I am not talking about people in their 40's or early 50's. Some of them are quite easily in their late 60's. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Should the BNP be allowed to voice their views on the BBC?
nigel99 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
Why? I'd think Brits should feel flattered. Because the basis of an asylum seeker (and I believe enshrined in international law) is that your "human right" is to have safe protection in the first SAFE country. I think that once you are in a safe zone - so if you escape the turmoil in the middle east then the first EU country that you arrive in should be deemed safe, moving from one safe country to another under your own initiative is simply wrong and shifts you from asylum seeker to economic migrant - at which point you rightfully lose the protections that are afforded asylum seekers. It is important to note that this does place a moral burden on the "inland" countries that do not border countries with a high outflow of refugees to either take refugees or assist in funding them. Should the BNP be allowed to voice their views on the BBC?
nigel99 replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
You'd think it would be quite easy to keep track on an island. The funny thing is people "focus" on different races and yet I worked with an illegal immigrant - from New Zealand. He said it was quite well known that if you wanted to stay and work you simply flew into Ireland and then travelled on into the UK. He since married a british person and to do so legalised his status (this was about 7 or 8 years ago). For what it is worth I get REALLY upset at the discussions/expressions of sympathy for asylum seekers trying to come into the UK through France (Calais). If they are genuinely so hard up they should be happy to stay in the FIRST country of refuge. There are legitimate reasons why people arrive in the UK through heathrow or Gatwick, especially when escaping former commonwealth counties. I watched QT on iplayer yesterday and to be honest Nick Griffins comes across as clueless and rather dim. I loved it when he nodded his head in agreement at some of the bashing that he got. On the other hand I think that Jack Straws slippery demeanor was just as bad. The two people who really stood out as being level headed were the lib-dem and conservative members of the panel (don't remember the names). The woman from the conservative was extremely good I thought. To focus on the actual topic though. I felt that on a couple of issues the BNP are closer to the "truth" than the others. 1) The acknowledgment that people dislike politicians and don't trust them. 2) The general denial by Jack Straw and Bonnie that there is such a thing as "indigenous British/english". I know MANY white englishmen feel that being a white middle class male puts you right at the bottom of the governments priority list. Failure to step up and address those feelings and pretending they don't exist causes problems. I have a very good friend whose parents moved to Southern Africa when he was 5 or 6 years old. When things collapsed he returned to the town of his birth (Skegness) and was bullied and abused out of 2 jobs by "locals" who resented "you bloody foreigners stealing our jobs". Last thought - I am very happy to see the BNP forced to open their constitution, but I would like to see a bit of fairness and see a few white faces in the black police officers association Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -

I think that in the UK we have a problem where we tend towards "thought police" and shy away from true debate. I think "we the public" are treated as ignorant plebs incapable of making informed decisions. Parties like the BNP etc are LEGAL they should not be treated as though they are illegal, simply because people find their views offensive. To be honest the anti-BNP views give the BNP more airtime than if they were simply ignored and left to make fools of themselves. But I do think the problem is broader unlike the US, here people are not allowed to have true "free speech" as if your view is not politically correct you are muzzled - which is wrong. If I don't like gays, whites, blacks, christians, jews or muslims I should have the freedom to say so. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -
I think it has to do with density differences between air and target. I have seen birds hundreds of times at distances exceeding 3 miles on 5 KW boat X band radars. Furnuno sells a so called BIRD RADAR (S band) that are used by tuna boats to spot bird flocks at distances of over 20 miles. I spoke with a bird researcher in Hawaii who was using Furuno radar to track bird movements. He said that he regularly got returns from insect swarms at distances of several miles when the air was calm. He figured it out by observing and corellating close range echos visually with evening insect swarms. Most people would think a Pelican to be an ideal stealth aircraft, but they have a very big RCS and show up great on simple low power (2-5KW) boat radars. 377 In answer to Georgers question - I think that if investigated you'd find that birds wings are rather "flat". You need to look at the dimensions in terms of a wavelength of the radar in use (higher frequency shorter wavelength). As 377 said density also matters - but I am not quite in my domain as the only real radar work I have done is for GPR. Remember the Project Mogul balloon used to explain the Roswell "UFO" debris? It carried a string of corner cube radar reflectors suggesting that balloons may be poor radar targets. 377 I picked up on that too. Puzzeling. Balloons are poor reflectors due to their lack of flat surfaces or sharp corners. They are also helped by the fact that the surface is convex and tends to scatter the incident waves effectively reducing the Radar Cross Section (RCS). Obviously material reflectivity also plays a part. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I used to have one but did not have the self discipline to not read emails that arrived while driving, so I reverted to a "simple" phone. Should lesbian student be allowed to wear tux in yearbook photo?
nigel99 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
THE Disaster! I will never ever watch anybody's any kind of book. Just in case. Precisely - I nearly used a hot blond naturist and then realised that would unfairly bias the results towards "no problem" and secondly from what little exposure I've had to nude beaches you don't get "hot" naturists Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -

I tend to agree that this is more dress code than anything else. When the 300lb naturist wants his right to have his yearbook photo in the nude what happens then? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -

No question about it???? You must have extraordinary evidence, which of course you cannot share at this time...etc. Case closed I guess. Just waiting for the minor details. 377 "the real motive may come as a surprise" - My guess he was using the old pickup line of I'm a skydiver and it wasn't working, so he needed a better line Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

I was standing on Westminster Bridge around mid-day have had saturation news coverage on the MP's expense scandal and noticed the shape of the shadows cast by the railing I really thought that having the road paved to parliament "paved" with 100's of these shadows was fanastic! I came across this link http://selousscouts.tripod.com/fire_force__part_one.htm that has a whole history on Fire Force during the Rhodesian war. It is mostly on strategy and helicopters but some background on combat para drops. It's of personal interest considering I grew up there and my dad was in the RAF and worked on Vampires, Cambera's and Hunters. Most of my jumps are from an ex-RAF Trojan (AL60-B2L). So if Ckret asks me if Snow has made any derogatory statements about the Bureau's handling of the Cooper investigation and I say no, I can be indicted? Man. I hope Jo was right and they do have prisoner smokejumpers. If I cut the S/L and use my reserve I bet I can get a few seconds of freefall while doing time at Club Fed. 377 Wow that is amazing and shows the problem with prosecuting "thought crimes". The number of tongue in cheek comments that are made online (or simply people "acting big" that could end up having you prosecuted as a terrorist I am extremely glad that I am not of arabic descent nor islamic as that probably reduces the tolerance level somewhat.
