Deployment systems for a Paracommander
stratostar replied to dgw's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Try a copy of the parachute manual vol.1 or the paracommander hand book by Gary Lewis... A quick search on here will find the handbook. As for your questions, 1. nothing wrong with gutter gear stop being a pussy! A sleeve is the most simple deployment system, not hard to use at all. There are a number of ways to deploy a PC, sleeve (short & Long), POD, and D-bag, each one is packed different, the sleeve being the easiest of all three. You could find an old fart who knows how to pack a PC into a D-bag and then have it hooked on to 3-rings and placed in the dolphin, but that would make you a major pussy. You could build a POD and try to turn it sideways into the dolphin, or build a POD and use it in the HC you have that fits and is old school.... I like PODs over D-bags for easy packing, but sleeves are the simple, but more of a bitch to pack depending on the container size. The most important thing for you to do is find a live person who is knowing what the fuck their doing on old gear and get some help and have them double check your shit. If your in the UK you might try finding this guy... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=andrewhilton; you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

USPA's "Championship" Demo Team?
stratostar replied to airtwardo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is the kind of bullshit that makes me think term limits for serving on the BOD to two terms max of 3 yrs. then your out on your ass and not allowed to run for 10 yrs if allowed to serve again, is questionable. There is no way in hell USPA should be funding this fucktards demo team! WHY the fuck are WE members not allowed to vote on this! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

That is not true, I've had to FOIA records to see the FAA's side of something & I was providing info to the FAA in that case, once the letters of violation are sent to the party the action is towards, you can file a FOIA request. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Ok in fairness to Mr. Peek, I'm 110% sure that he has addressed this issue first hand before, we (Gary & I) had spoke a number of times about a lot of issues, this being one of them. Now you may think he is sitting on his ass doing nothing because he wishes to not engage you via a public pissing contest online. The truth of the matter is he is only but one BOD member, he is in the midwest and not on the left coast, he can only do so much as one voice. if this issue is of that much of hot button for all of us, then all of us need to speak up and voice this to ALL the BOD! And not sit back and expect Gary Peek to field the balls you keep hitting in the park aimed at him. The root of the problem of Craig Stapleton jumping @ Lodi has to do with the message his actions send not only to USPA members he is to represent, but the message it sends to the FAA & NTSB who just released their 'report'. The USPA message to the FAA & NTSB has been "self policing" and a massive attempt to clean up the GM dz's..... Lodi is not a GM dz and has a reputation of cutting corners and busting FAR's like seat belts and MX. What would happen if the wing of the otter fell off on take off as the AC was 30 ft in the air and no one was wearing seat belts, even the dead body of one Mr. Craig Stapleton, USPA RD, they find on top of the pile.... now we have another Perris 92 but only in Lodi and compounded by the bad MX cases. What would/will the FAA do then to the industry? Mandatory part 135 for all jumpships? I think USPA is risking a hell of a lot of egg on their face should anything like the above happen out there and Mr. Craig Stapleton is on the plane dead or broken from no seat belt, on the field watching and has been known to be a regular there for 20 some years..... kind of hard to play the stupid card if you been around that long to not notice little things like the seat belt use... the shitty MX is a whole another cookie. Mr. Craig Stapleton has a fiduciary duty to the ALL membership of his region, it's his duty to look into the bullshit, the only way to know what is in the FAA's case is to file a FOIA request, Mr. Stapleton should have filed a FOIA request for the public record as part of his fiduciary duty to the USPA members like him self who jump there. After all Mr. Stapleton if there is noting to hide or lies being told on Lodi or the FAA is out to get Bill, then step up and look into it via FOIA. If it's all true & proven facts he should no longer support that operation as a sitting BOD member and maybe even seek action to remove Bill and other parties involved as a members of USPA, or step down as a regional director and keep on going there. After all USPA has been talking a lot of shit about this NTSB report and how we gotta change things.... seems like a lot of fluffy bullshit to me to try to cater to the FAA while the good old boys send out the message, do as we say not as we do..... reminds me a lot of that dipshit regional director in Warren county Ohio. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

USPA to forbid its board members from committing blatant FAR violations by jumping at drop zones where seat belts aren't even used.*** What about this Gary? When can we expect to see some action on this? Not the first time this has happened with sitting BOD members supporting well known "outlaw" dzo's. Sends a nice message to those members who blindly support those cats. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

The people we are talking about you most likely will not run into or not even know it's going on, mostly due to your nerves and everything going on that day. Bottom line is your the one paying the bill and if you get an asshole then speak up to the business owner or manager, your the customer you call the shots in who your willing to risk life & death with. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea and they are the ones who throw down the cigs butts, piss on the seat, litter, bitch they can't hop on the next load, won't teach a class, or pack to help out, basic a pain in the ass. Where I jump, there are the doers and non doers who are the loudest at bitching about everything yet won't help out.. it's a club, not a business... DZ's screwing you over on pay cheques.. advice??
stratostar replied to criolli's topic in Instructors
I never said the blackballing is right, however yes I think depending on "who" the dzo is, the OP could very well find it hard to ever work here again. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Then he would never work in the U.S. industry again and may even find that finding work in other countries limited. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
That is when you go to the dzo and say I will no longer do videos of said asshole, if the dzo has a problem with you refusing to take part in piss poor marketing of their dz then they are a fucking moron and you should move on anyway. Too many dzo's turn a blind eye to that crap when it's on the ground or the truly busy one's may not see it that much. When it's in the air they will never see unless they check out the videos from time to time. Video production for dz is the best damn marketing you can invest in as a dzo, each and every one is a commercial for your operation, the consumer is not stupid as you point out they ask WTF is he doing? Or if you watch videos where the camera flyer filps upside down, look over at grandma and she will be trying turn upside down too.... It's the same thing. When people are paying the kind of money we charge then they should get a product the reflects the price tag. Utube is full of some really REALLY REALLY shitty tandem videos! Here we are in 2011 and I just saw a dz not far from me who sold a video with two rewinds of a tape based camera on the end product.... that means you see the tape marks in the recording of the rewinding camera, this was done on exit and landing so they could do a slo-mo. Talk about fucking retarded! It proves some dzo's don't care, or are tight asses and won't spend a few grand to do it right and do it faster on top of using clowns for instructors and video flyers.... then you have the class acts in the business and it shows on each and every dz commercial that walks out the door. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

That is so true! Also some of this is on the video person, I've done it (video) for 15 years, if your really doing your job with the camera, then you would not allow that on your tape. In the past I have had to stop more then once and move my students away from asshats doing and saying stupid shit in the foreground & background, I've had to stop interviews and rerecord it because of the very stuff the OP is talking about..... WHY? Because it's not professional! And it adds a great deal of work to edit out the stupid shit wasting my time to be earning additional money by moving on to the next one. I have had to go to DZO's and say I will no longer work with some TI's because of this stuff. Point is, it's not just TI who is acting unprofessional in this shit if this stuff is ending up on the editing floor. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

You can also get a brand new dolphin system for not a lot of money and they have an SOS system option. Regardless of the following people who will post after me that those rigs are shit, junk, cheap etc, that is not really true, they are made very well and hold up with standard care. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

DZ's screwing you over on pay cheques.. advice??
stratostar replied to criolli's topic in Instructors
In my state all liens were called that, not sure if that is still the case today.... the word mechanic, was general not meaning you fixed anything. In the case I was thinking of in my statement, was of a realtor I knew who was not paid by a big corp. he filed his lien on the property for the bill, it was blown off many years till they tried to sell the property. It was then the lawyers started calling to remove the lien, he got paid in the end. 2nd. Any post I make on this or any website should not be construed as legal advice in matter of law or legal action, should anyone act on any posts made by me would be foolish IMHO..... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

stratostar replied to criolli's topic in Instructors
I would fly or drive back there and file a MX lien on their property or aircraft at the court house. If it's a turbine AC and they own it, they can't sell it till the lien is paid. Might even be able to file via mail or internet. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
