There is nothing wrong with tipping if you WANT too. A 20 spot is cool each instructor. (there is two) I've seen people hand out more too, but all in all it's pretty rare to get a tip. As others have said nothing wrong pizza and beer after sunset or cooler full of water/ gator-aid in the mid day heat. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

That maybe true. Being one of a few people in recent times to use 1960's gear of all shapes and sizes.... older don't always mean bad idea, there is something to be said to K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid! The only thing I've heard anyone say so far was they thought the side flaps covered to much of the reserve side flaps, so that if you had a total on the main there was a lot of extra fabric over the lower corners of reserve pack tray and they were concerned about it holding the reserve or delaying deployment. I doubt it, I'm sure Marty has had some stunt monkeys with video doing the test jumps. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Looks like a Quasar container to me. And did you think to call Strong and ask them what an H drouge is....? Personally I kind of like it from the looks of things, would like to see one in person before I make up my mind. Two things I do like 1. secondary main handle option to locate on the left bottom, like a vector or sigma, keeps things simple for those who use both SE or UPT systems. 2. Last season after getting my rigs back from SE, I had an asshole running his mouth around about my rigs and how they had an illegal mod on them, because the primary main handle was perm mounted to the instructors hip. (like a UPT) Well low an behold....... Where do you think the main handle is on the new system..........should you wish it to be 1. no fumbling around in a 182 trying to find the damn clip on PAX HC. (one less thing to fuck around with during hook up) 2, better for TDM progression teaching to reach for a boc and not the belly band area. 3. no floating handles due to plastic clips breaking. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Really. I see it as more proof that there are too many stupid fuckers flying around under parachutes who would be better off staying on the golf greens or bowling alley! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Well let's wait and see what the FAA safety study will say, cuz the consultant's report and vote of the CC don't mean shit, if anything, for now it helps the other side get their part 13 opened. Even if it's all total BS as to why BR is filing a part 13, the feds are required to review it once it's submitted to them, and then they can decide to act or not on it. My guess is that under current guidance for federal funded airports they will open it, if it's filed and then conduct a safety study. http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/advisory_circular/150-5190-7/150_5190_7.pdf page # 10 you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Numbers I have been sent from USPA for airport access files, shows 8 total mid airs, prior to the otter clip @ sunset. Out of all the mid airs, only 2 have been with non activity aircraft. I have no true idea of what the feds are "studying" on the national level or at any one DZ. I have posted into this thread what I have in writing and from voice of what has been said to me directly from Kevin Wills manger FAA airport compliance, his staff airport compliance officer Kathy Brockman and Office of the Associate Administrator for Airports, Deputy Associate Administrator Catherine Lang. Most of my contact has been with Ms. Brockman, who has told me that the FAA is using a number of departments (4) I think, Flight Standards, Airport compliance & field operations, ATC, Airport Safety and Standards, to conduct a national study of skydiving operations and airport compliance issues and they expect it to be done in 10 mos or so ( told this two months ago). While I have not been told what all they are looking into outside of airport compliance, I think it's a safe bet to assume they are looking at all parts of the operation for our activity. This is based on a number of things in the public domain and by what I've been told. The real problem is 90% of skydivers are stupid to heed the warnings nor read the info being published... they only act right when the feds are on the field and they think once the FAA is back in the car and pulling out the drive the problem has gone away. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I'm not really talking in general terms of the FAA, in fact, based on recent past history as I just noted in my last post, I have a pretty good idea what they were asking about (if I took a guess), looking at and talking about, I also wouldn't be surprised if they (the FAA guys) didn't spend a lot of time talking to be over heard by the public or those not directly being questioned. But it's not real hard to have a good idea at was being looked at, asked about, inspected and documented. Kind of like a ramp check/proctology exam x 4. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I don't think he is keeping it to himself. There are a number of people in the industry who know the FAA has been looking at skydiving on a number of different levels. You would have to be living under a rock to not know about some actions in the last two years or less in CA towards an operator. Let us also not forget the NTSB report a while back. Currently there is a national FAA study under way, (based on my personal contacts with FAA in DC) regarding skydiving operations on airports and airport compliance (federal funded) skydiving operations over all. (airspace, FAR's, Landing areas, ATC, etc) I alluded to this information in my earlier post. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Well see I think you got it all wrong here: An AC is to advise you because you failed to already understand what the FAA was saying in an FAR, so they (FAA) issue an advisory circular in more direct wording to tell you what the fuck they (FAA) expect you to be doing.... and should you not heed their advisory, your not heeding/abiding by the FAR's then and there for they can bust you. Don't think I'm right, waltz on down to your local FSDO and request to read in front of them (FAA) an AC like 105.2c and then go across the street and then violate it in front of them and watch what happens... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

That pretty much sums it up.... However there are other winds of change blowing in upper levels of FAA. He noted on the pending release of AC 105.2 D. And on the airport access side things , there is a study currently on going and the new 105 address some of that, I would be surprised to see the new ac 105 out before the study ends. In other words..... there are many high ranking FAA eyes looking at skydiving right now for a number of reasons, some good, some bad. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
