  1. Ok I know I have personally posted on this subject before, but I can't find the old thread to bump it.... Here is the deal, I can't understand why it is a dz owner or manger would post an ad like this: When you click on the posters profile you get nothing there as well. First thing I find wrong with this, what are you hiding from us that your too ashamed to post the name of the dz, the state it's in or the city it's in? It could be that they know it's a shit hole that 75% of the industry wouldn't want to work at, like skyride dz's or they just made the news in the industry by crashing their plane or other industry reason why one would not provide basic info. I can understand not wanting nine million phone calls or emails from those seeking the work... however if in a want ad for a job it says NO PHONE CALLS or other instructions to apply... the smart mother fuckers you want working for you will follow your requests, because they want the job. The dumbass ones will still call because their too stupid "get it". Why dose this piss me off? Well for starters, if I was interested in relocating or seasonal hire, as a dad with a small child and other factors, there is a hell of a lot that goes into making a move or leaving home for months at a time. A person who is a real professional will need to make plans and research the local area in question for many many reasons. By providing basic info to interested parties in your ad, you not only save me time, but you save your time by not having me contact you to ask one question...... WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU LOCATED? I could know right off the bat if a location would work for me or not in thinking about a move across the country or a few states away. There are many factors to consider, yes most tent and trailer living staff who live the "life style" of dz bums might not care where, they just move the rv or tent to the next ghetto. It's funny how after many years in the sport wearing almost every hat you can sport on the dz, it cracks me up too see DZO's who keep using the lazy bums who "life style'in" it and then bitch because their staff suck and party all the time.... might explain the continued staff turn overs. I do a lot marketing for small companies and even larger one, some of my past clients are DZ's large & small. This type of ad posting is really a piss poor job of seeking good help. For many reasons it makes people question right off the bat what and why are you hiding the basic info. Now for the record, I'm not interested in bashing the poster of the ad I used for an example, in fact I'm still waiting to find out where the hell this place is, the south is a large place and I would like to research new places to move too and work & jump, I read the ad's looking for areas I might be interested in, but I will need to look at school, crime, housing cost, day care, rent prices, taxes, on site living..... a whole bunch of shit needs to be considered. So the point is DZO's & mangers, if your going to take the time to seek out new staff you want to stick around long term, then put some effort into your search please by providing those seeking a new place to relocate too the tools to decide if it's worth taking the time to contact you because your location meets the needs of those who might be moving long distance to come to work & live there. For example: Skydive Hawaii hiring TDM and AFF, one way airfare for west coast for 6 months comment. That ad tells me a lot, I can know right off the bat the weather, location and transportation needs along with the ratings they seek. I can know right off the bat how much of a pain in the ass it would be to move to Hawaii and if it didn't work out, well now your kind of stuck there unless your rich or have no family in tow to move a household with kids. Where as, skydive Dallas hiring, well I still know the weather year round, location and it's three states away making for a possible short term or seasonal hire over a major move, hell maybe I need to rent a house out because the market sucks ass and selling right now would not be a smart move.... like I said there are many factors for those seeking work to consider before contacting you. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  2. Yes you can depending on the HC. I know people who have used big student HC's or TDM rigs. I have nice "modern" wonderhog sn 944, it's had the belly band removed and a boc added to it. Packed up it looks like any other rig.... hand deploy on 3 rings, only it's big as hell and bulky when next to today gear. You would not know there is a round in it until it opens. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  3. I would not short line one today, you don't really need too. I own a few of each type..... 2 jumbos, 4 mk1's & a pap, got both short lined and non short line. For one thing as easy as they are to come by, if your looking, you can find short lined ones all day long, everyone did it, standard factory lines are not all that common to find. For the record, mk-2 suck and you better hit the peas. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  4. Ok your right.... us old fucks call the vector 1 a wonderhog. The vector is the "changed" rig..... So Dave.... the ripcord in question is NOT from a wonderhog, it's a RWS VECTOR ripcord..... LOL PS also just doing my part to drive DB Cooper thread off the top mark, people need to give it up... he's dead! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  5. RWS vector one reserve you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  6. That is one of the draw backs to being a test jumper for a new company with no real proven track record as with other mfg's. We've seen this before with other gear, some people are always wanting the newest greatest thing to come along and then once the problems surface to the point the company goes belly up, then all those people who were paying to be test jumpers get screwed. Buy hey look on the bright side, your not dead from a defective unit, yet. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  7. Well yes it is, it's people like that who shine the bad light on the whole industry in many peoples eyes. However in the last ten years or so, IMHO, there has been a great deal of good work being done by a handful of people @ USPA, and one person there has done most the hard work.... the end result is the FAA & USPA have a good working understanding on these matters and the industry has been and is trying to rid it's self of the bad apples. The FAA is not stupid, while some inspectors are in fact stupid too skydiving, many are not and at high levels in the agency. There is still a great deal of work to be done "cleaning up" the many problems we face as a sport and industry, but rouge dzo's who have been the outlaws of the old days are now living numbered days if they don't play ball. Changes are coming in regards to a number of positive things for skydivers in access rights, with those rights comes responsibility to play by the rules if we expect to have equal rights and use of the airspace system. It only takes one or two fucktards to mess up all the good done by the many and ruin the whole deal for everyone..... but hey fuck you, I got my 15 dollar slots while the gitten was good~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  9. I've been around a long time too, I have never seen this type of crap your talking about.... other then the hook turns. But I have seen a dzo let a guy who was a retired golden d-bag that had not jumped in 10 years, ask and let that guy take a first jump tandem up because he was short ti's.... YES this jump happened and I have the exit on video. I like to pull around 5.5 on tandems. And like AFF I teach my PAx to lock on their dial @ 6 and pull @ 5,5. That way it's in line with the progression should someone return for training. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  12. I could care less, I find it funny at the level of stupid shit they will dream up to try to sound real.... like hitting a swarm of bees @ 7K..... that is a first in the world as far as I can tell and I would think it would have the interest of the people who study bees, is this some kind of super bee swarm, sent from China to kill our bees to get all the bee work to China or was it a weird up draft of wind.... what? That is important info to get out to everyone, really skydivers might get killed if we don't educate about these rouge swarms of bees buzzing round and trying to dock in freefall..... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  14. So I was reading an on line newspaper from my old home town yesterday and they had a "question on the street" of random people. The question was: "what is the most adventurous thing you've done?" http://www2.ljworld.com/onthestreet/2011/sep/03/what-most-adventurous-thing-youve-done/#comments Now there is the public comments section and as I was reading all those fully expecting to read the normal "I did a skydive" post and yes there was those types of posts... But the one that stood out was this one: LOL yea I left it alone but so wanted to say/post something..... a swarm of bees @ 7K, yea right, must be the only guy I've ever heard of in 35 plus years of skydiving experience hitting a swarm of bees in free fall...... I would think that would make national news and be of major interest to those who study bees...... I always love hearing some asshat try to tell how they made some jumps in a bar or other setting, "I had a buddy in the army and he took me for some jumps" morons think they can fool the real deal by talking made up shit that is so easy to spot they are talking out their ass. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  15. If it was me, I would skip the dealer and call the company directly and speak to them about it. There are a number of companies who can do logo canopies and they will at least speak to about the choices you would have and cost etc. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  16. BOy you got that right! That was sumtin top notch till that clown & his 3-ring circus showed up and set up camp.... I 'is hear'n thay's fed up wif um after three yrs and sent him out of town on a rail to some place further down south to open a fish taco stand and sell high priced trinkets to the euro trash. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  18. Don't want to hear shit about your shitty set up then don't jump a shitty set up..... seems pretty simple to me. You know your going to start to see if you have not already more and more of this type of crap. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

  20. Interesting how that (even for media) fills in some blanks that are later redacted in published documents. It also answers a few questions or I should say clears up a few smaller details that have become "telephoned gamed" over time. this and that Thanks for posting the link. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  21. You know what.... I'm recalling you & I comparing notes on this subject a few years back, in regards to the "sold as scrap or cores"..... The first paragraph is was not meant to say it was in the report... the later stuff is in the report as to chain of custody, time line of events, names blacked out, happen the be the only time in years of inspections of log books by the FAA that those very log books were "in the plane" and not in the off site location they were those other times (wink wink)... all that really good shit is in the reports but with the names blacked out you have to play connect the dots and know a little history, it's not that hard to do. Regardless of the small detail mis-stated you & I along with along with a number of other people how fucked up that whole deal was, yes they had to have known the condition, yes there had to be more then one party in the know as to the condition prior to take off roll. The really big shit is and was pretty hard to mis. I have to look I'm pretty sure I have copies of the redacted reports. This subject has been posted about before and believe there are more detailed reports posted in those threads if you can find them. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
  22. It wouldn't have been the DZo who they would have been looking at. The engine in question was taken off a static display D-18 from PA. That Static display had been sitting for some time (years) it was then taken down and the motors sold as scrap or cores. The one in questions was sold a a skydiving operator in south west Ohio where it sat (based NTSB & FAA records) for an additional 18 years without proper long term storage and exposed to the elements. It was then sold to Mr. Barron and transported to Hinkley and hung on the aircraft by a non A&P person who was strongly connected (staff) and or instructed by the person who sold the engine. In 1998 or so, there was a skydiver safety expo @ SDC, some highly respected DZO's who attended that told me there was a presentation done by a retired NSTB go team member. this guy worked the hinkley crash and had made comments to the effect that "he couldn't understand why a dzo from SW Ohio was not in prison for 12 counts of manslaughter" I was not there and didn't hear this first hand, however I don't doubt the people who spoke of this event... ALL names are blacked out in the NTSB report, but it's not real hard to follow the dots for a good idea of who they were talking about, all you need to know is your skydiving history. Mostly I find it all very easy to believe based on the past actions of the person who sold the engine in question and his well known years of corner cutting on aircraft MX and over all operations. I strongly believe had the events of 9-11-01 not happened this guy would have in fact been in a court of law on a number of other charges from the DOT related to aircraft & skydiving operations. The good news is these kind of outlaws are a dying bread in the industry today , there are only a few left and they are getting old in age, so sooner then later they will be out for good. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
