Airport access fight making the news!!!!
stratostar replied to Jumpdude's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Or in most cases more then one moron. And the problem with people like this, no matter what the FAR's say, or the FAA they still think they are right..... see the bold text. You can try to reply to people like this and will not matter what is said or what facts are used to make clear they are not only wrong, but very wrong.... it will not matter. http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2011/nov/17/town-talk-budding-business-hopes-teach-people-how-/ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

USPA's "Championship" Demo Team?
stratostar replied to airtwardo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dear USPA board members, I'm writing to express my displeasure in your handing out a loan for 10K to send Jim Hayhurst to attend the ICAS Convention to try to get airshow contracts and then build a demo team, and use USPA office staff to book demos for this new team. 1. it's a conflict of interest 2. your doing a dis-service to every pro rating card holder in the membership. 3. Your handing out OUR dues monies and not letting US members have any say on the matter, we now have online voting, WE the members of USPA should have a vote on this matter! 4. Mr. Hayhurst need to go get a bank loan and stop sucking the membership dry of due funds for his pet project. 5. Your actions will hurt other teams who have been doing the airshows for a very long time without any funding from USPA, they sure as hell never were given a 10k hand out from anyone. Bad enough our tax money is wasted on the golden knights and then teams and demo teams have to fund there own way to compete with them and now the USPA as well, bogus! Was there any collateral for this 10K hand out of USPA member money? Seems to me Mr. Hayhurst needs to step down and resign from USPA and go on his own and use his own money for this little project and stop ripping off the USPA members, he can do it like all the other non funded teams in the USA and pay his dues to earn his place like all the others have done for years! USPA has shown time & time again it's now a DZO and insider trade group and it's no longer about the members as a whole but the select few who have the pull to get their way regardless of members input, hell you guys can't even have enough respect for US members to ask for our input before handing out OUR money or settling with skyride, you do as you damn well please with no member input.... no not everyone can take time off or afford to attend your meetings.... remember that online voting thing? Maybe you should try using that for the membership to vote on these stupid ideas that waste OUR money! Hey, I think a better idea would be for USPA to fund and build a wind tunnel across the street from that joint Kirk Verner runs and one on a big rig to travel the country, USPA can pay for it , use USPA staff to market them and do bookings for both of them and staff them and even send a team around to all the other wind tunnels in the country to stand outside those businesses and run the mobile unit and hand out flyers for free tunnel time in NC with a donation to the US team fund, all paid for by USPA membership dues, we will make a killing and should have the two tunnels paid for in one years time. I don't think any of the current tunnel owners would care, after all we could be getting some corporate sponsorships for the US team & I bet we could even get bud light to sponsor Friday night "buzz flights" and we can see who is the best in the world at flying drunk, we can hand out what ever Kool-aid the BOD is being served. Now I don't have a business plan, just an idea, I don't have a team in place or the equipment to do this, BUT if you guys & gals would be so kind as to give me an unsecured loan for 10.5 million in membership dues, I bet I can get these two tunnels built at a discount, I know a guy who dose welding, we could have the mobile unit up and running in no time flat that should help get some repayment right away.... and just think about how well that mobile unit will go over @ airshows, talk about making the big bucks! I'll be awaiting my check so I can get started right away on this project, seeing how the members won't have a vote on my idea, besides that, everyone knows it's a great idea, just look at all the money those tunnels make. On another note, how long is the USPA going to condone a RD supporting and jumping @ Lodi with all the problems out there? What kind of message is that sending to the USPA members out there? What kind of message is that sending to the FAA and NTSB? After all was that all just fluffy BS out of HQ about cleaning up the industry and showing the FAA & NTSB we self policing... how about if they have major crash there because of the piss poor MX Bill has been doing (see king air crash in Canada) and that RD's dead body is in the pile of non seat belt wearing loads they fly... seems to me USPA looks pretty stupid having a board member who has a history of jumping there for 20 some years, can't play the stupid card, "I didn't know all this was going on" (yea right) with a history of years of supporting a place like that. Again what kind of message is that sending to the FAA and members of USPA in that area. That RD has a duty seek the truth on behalf of the members he was elected to represent and provide them with the facts in the name of safety. So much for self policing! Oh, I forgot this is all about do as we say not as we do, right? Come on guys & gals, get it together and stop wasting our money and our time with feel good stories about doing the right thing to clean up the industry and not support shady operators, while a BOD member blows off everything your telling everyone else to do! Have a good day. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

What canopy has the most fatalities?
stratostar replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, Bill I thought my answer was just as stupid as T-10. Knowing full well there are more modern canopies with much higher death rates.... you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Training conversion from standard to SOS system?
stratostar replied to nigel99's topic in Safety and Training
I was talking about how on the two handled SOS system, some mfg's make, both handles, do both jobs, this keeps those who pull in the wrong order safe and is the point of having both handle on the rig set up to work as an SOS. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Training conversion from standard to SOS system?
stratostar replied to nigel99's topic in Safety and Training
See John Shermans post and this was the point I was getting at: It is stupid to back and forth at low number and very risky as well, even for experienced jumpers it can be as John points out. IMHO you would be better off keeping her on the gear she trained on for FJ, that means borrow or rent one from someone for those needed training jumps because it's not many over all. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Training conversion from standard to SOS system?
stratostar replied to nigel99's topic in Safety and Training
The real question is, are they going to be staying on that system or only using it a few jumps and then going back to a two handled system? Also is the rig a true sos or is it a two handle sos system? IMHO, if the answer to question 1 is yes, then no they need to stay on the two handle system and switch back and forth if the answer to question 2 is no, it's a true sos. If the answer to question 2 is yes it's a two handle sos system, then there should be no problem because the ep's are the same as a non sos two handled system. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

USPA's "Championship" Demo Team?
stratostar replied to airtwardo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good! It's way past time to take back OUR org. I like a number of the BOD, but it's a conflict of interest for DZO's to be sitting on the bod for so long as they have. You don't see any of them in here posting do you? No not a one, what dose that tell ya. I would support legal action to force the need changes to the org as a whole. It's also past time for term limits for serving as a BOD, there should be no DZO's sitting there as ND's, I could see a case for a DZO being a RD, but again term limits 3 yrs & your done maybe 6 max or two terms. With the newly used online voting, you mean to tell me 'they' could be bothered to ask US what we think about this and take a vote of the membership? They don't take the time because we don't matter... it's all about who is sucking who's dick to get their way. I would send a letter, but it would be point less to do so they have made it clear there is no concern for member input on this kind of spending. My respect for a number of BOD has dropped a great deal, again. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

It's one thing for you & I to use that stuff because we learned on it and used it in the day....... that said it can be used safely by today's jumpers in a safe manner with a little training, it dose take a some knowing WTF to do. I have trained a good deal of people to use it and so far no one bounced from using gutter gear. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Not really, note the in the posts... And I offered some damn good advice, such as seek out and visit Andrew & have a look at the large airworthy collection over there in person. I have a large collection too of all kinds of stuff set up in a lot of ways most of it would be hard to type out what is what and how it works, keeping it simple is the best, I strongly believe anyone who has not grown up on or around the old shit, who seeks to use it should put in the hours to learn about it and how to use it.... such as getting a copy of parachute manual vol 1 for starters and maybe beckmons if you can find one & along with finding an old fart to advise and other gear and inspecting it. All of my deployment methods are vintage and were rebuilt or made from patterns of vintage. For example my wonderhog has a mk1 in a POD and it will not fit in it top to bottom flaps, because it's made for a style master like HC, but by turning it 90 degrees 'sideways' it fits just fine. My 74 racer SST has a regular style but large d-bagged mk1. At some point I will build a bag for the wonderhog or find one to fit. My paratwin has a sleeve in it and it's a bitch to pack and should have a POD on it.... this is all the shit a noob need to see, hear & learn about first hand and by reading it in the manual while looking at the crap on the packing table and not over an internet post. And Marty, in the last 15 years I personally have help a great deal of people(more then 50) experience their first round jumps, many of them making more then one, I have no problem helping others who seek to jump vintage gear, even those who I might call a pussy for not jumping a belly wart system..... I have modern rigs that are hand deploy on 3-rings, like my 77 wonderhog....LOL I hope you can help him out in building a deployment device, that is kind of you. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Deployment systems for a Paracommander
stratostar replied to dgw's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
a standard PC will fit into a D-bag that is made big enough for it and then it will fit into a very large student or tandem rig with not much problem. With a POD you would have to turn it sideways to fit in there. A POD is much like a strong tandem main D-bag, only different... LOL As for jumping it, there is no reason you can't go terminal.... unless your a pussy or can't spot for shit.... LOL Regardless, you need to check out Andrew and the collection he has access to. Also most of all have fun! Rounds are fun to jump, much different then what you know now. And if you want to jump gutter gear there is a great first jump training film you can watch so you'll be up to speed on what to do.
