Where do these guys learn to write?? "Plunged into the forests of the Pacific Northwest like a golfball on a soggy fairway"?!! Dodgy prose aside, thought the article pretty decent. LOL.....At least he didn't start with "It was a dark and stormy night" The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest Where “WWW” means “Wretched Writers Welcome” http://www.bulwer-lytton.com/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness." --Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, Paul Clifford (1830) but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Geoff Gray's latest. Interesting take on the subject http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/07/opinion/sunday/the-enigma-of-db-cooper.html but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

My point exactly. In the space of like a week FBI agents have been quoted who reportedly state: we have "a promising lead" though we've not fully vetted the lead or the source, we've got an object - we're gonna try to get prints, no fingerprints can be obtained from the item so we are looking for another item that belonged to the "suspect", now, suddenly, we've already performed the DNA tests and the results of that was a bust. Oh and btw....this whole DNA thing might not even be Cooper's. Sounds like maybe somebody put the cart before the horse with this whole media blitz?? Just saying...sounding kinda hinky to me. Quit flexing, Farflung..I said hinky, not hunky. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Realizing I can't speak for everyone, I don't think many on here take what the media reports at face value....there's been way too many myths reported over the years, so, for most of us, things are generally assumed to be caged with an "as reported by" disclaimer. While some on this thread have worked with the FBI and the citizen science group, and therefore may "know" more than others (and per Sluggo...Those that are talking don't know and those that know aren't talking), speculation is basically all this discussion is and will probably ever be -- esp. since we don't have Ckret anymore. (And some of what he posted was speculation). I think most of us are pretty much in tune with the fact that the FBI's not gonna spill all their beans. I actually prefer it that way....I imagine it makes catching the bad guys a little easier.

You know I'm just a simple country girl so somebody please help me out here. What am I missing? They've known about this fellow for a year. If this article is legit, they've checked out the DNA - (which many suspect is a futile gesture from the get go - but that's another topic), but they're still waiting to find another object with fingerprints??? Does this mean that fingerprints from military service are not readily available from the military??... or maybe the FBI has to fill out an FOIA request to get em from the Navy. Now that would be govment bureaucrazy at its finest. Seriously, though ...is all this sounding kinda strange to anyone besides me? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Ummmm....... I'm torn.... Hairy Arms: What did Galen Cook's suspect have that Blevins' suspect didn't? Hairy Arms: What was REALLY under that suit coat? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

OK...back to fun stuff.....Coopardy.....damn I wish I'd thought of that. Jo, according to the blurb I posted above, the picture of LD was taken Christmas, 1972 but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

from CBS news: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20088048-504083.html "Cooper also says that the family saw L.D. the following Christmas in 1972, after his hospital visit. That was the time the picture she provided to the FBI was taken. She told ABC after this incident her uncle disappeared from their lives." Oh, What the heck? Work can wait....

Too busy to search for it right now, but, if memory serves, it has been posted before (maybe by Georger?) that the FBI did leave a specific characteristic off of the sketch. But no mention, as far as I remember, of what that something was. If it was mutton chops or a scar, then ole LD might be in the running, fer sure.

I'm reserving judgement too, 377, but this excerpt from here http://www.newson6.com/story/15205846/oklahoma-city-woman-claims-to-have-solution-in-db-cooper-case did kind of make me giggle. ""My father was crying. He was yelling and he was cussing out my uncle, well both of them for what they had done. He said 'You realize you have ruined your life,'" she said. While the FBI investigated some 800 suspects, Marla says her uncle went into hiding. She claims her father and uncles have since died, so as therapy she's writing a book to say the things she never was able to say to them. "It's hard to put into words 'I missed you.' I would say that," Cooper said, her eyes brimming with tears. She is working with publishers to get the book on stands on the 40th anniversary of the crime- which is this Thanksgiving Day 2011." Did she say therapy?.....Jeez louise... but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Could be any of the above. Several things strike me and fit with conversations I have had over the last year. The FBI chose to make this statement, at this time. The fact of Blevin's book and media campaign, the anniversary, media attention building - cannot be a coincidence. This release was no accident or entirely coincidental, in any event. It could be Vicki's Dad, something entirely new, or merely anecdotal to other things developing and at the end of this no new candidate will emerge. It sounds like a new candidate but until that emerges with a name and more information, this could be just another false alarm, at the same time the FBI is already having to deal with media attention this year, in lieu of other plans the FBI has for this case. On the face of it it sounds like a new candidate. It sounds like a process has been unfolding behind the scenes. But there are always people looking for suspects et cetera. Clearly KC is off the board. Weber already was. Galen has been silent and I cant blame him with all of the KC nonsense going on. If Geof Gray knows something he certainly did not tell the reporter. I know this much. Im not going to spend two seconds trying to track this down. In fact I had a long night last night, little sleep, a hundred people to help after a lecture in astrophysics, and "Ich" am going to go in a take a nap ... its just past noon. And tomorrow is going to be a very busy day ... That is all I know with any certainty. Smokin, I always look forward to your posts and respect them, likewise Orange. Thanks. Yeah, all of the above makes sense. I guess we'll know when we know. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I get where you're coming from, but couldn't law enforcement colleague - in this context - mean any law enforcement outside of the FBI? I've heard the term used before in cases where multiple jurisdictions/agencies were involved. So BCA or Secret Service does not sound so far fetched to me. Unless, of course, you have specific inside knowledge of this development, in which case...oops, my bad. As far as the hannaford article, tabloid or not...I thought it was a fun read. Plus it gave us something new to talk about and...as far as negative references to this forum....maybe so, but he's pretty much calling it like it is as far as I can tell. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Your right.....definitely says not a name that has come up within FBI before. The same article also says that Kenny was ruled out by the FBI -- so.... assuming the writer got that from the primary source...it would seem to exclude Kenny. I thought the following from the Alex Hannaford Telegraph article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/8667855/The-40-year-mystery-of-Americas-greatest-skyjacking.html was very interesting: "FBI agents who have worked on the Cooper case over the years differ in their opinions of what happened to him. Special agent Larry Carr, who spent several years running the Cooper investigation, thought he must have died when he jumped as he was wearing just a suit, which would have afforded him little protection against the elements. Current case agent Curtis Eng, however, thinks that if Cooper had died, we would have found clothing or money by now – something." The article references an "item" so I'm assuming that this is an object as opposed to fingerprint cards, So what has been sent? I know that Vicki talked to the federal marshall, but I can't remember if she forwarded anything to them. Vicki?? Blevins - didn't you say something was sent via Porteus/Lyle? Of course - with Christiansen the "someone they haven't looked at before" makes me pause. Unless, of course, they just did a cursory "he doesn't match the description" and something further has piqued their interest. (Giving ole KC the benefit of the doubt, here - can't help it -I'm just nice that way

another article...this one is pretty interesting from Alex Hannaford... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/8667855/The-40-year-mystery-of-Americas-greatest-skyjacking.html but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Looks like something is happening....Have you guys seen this? http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/FBI-checking-our-most-promising-lead-in-D-B-1666409.php From the above article: "The name of a man not previously investigated was given to the FBI, and an item that belongs to him was sent for fingerprint work at the agency's Quantico, Va., forensic lab, agency spokeswoman Ayn Sandalo Dietrich told seattlepi.com Saturday. A law enforcement collegue spoke with someone who may have a strong connection to Cooper, and that law enforcment staffer contacted the FBI, Sandalo Dietrich said." Could this be referencing the marshall that Vicki talked to about Mel???.......Or someone not even on the DZ radar?? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I have looked at many many military records. This is a common statement that I have seen many times on records of enlisted servicemen. My understanding is that it merely references the mandatory service duty in effect at the time and the authority under which they were serving. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Taken from Habitat for Humanity website: "In 1942, Clarence and Florence Jordan and Martin and Mabel England found Koinonia Farm in Sumter County, Georgia as a "demonstration plot for the Kingdom of God." Koinonia Farm will later become the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity."Millard and Linda Fuller seek the simple lifestyle of Koinonia Farm and together with Clarence Jordan develop the partnership housing model. The Fullers later apply this model to found the Habitat for Humanity International ministry." My stomping grounds. Americus, Sumter County, GA. is about 30 miles from my home. This is where Habitat originated and where their International Headquarters is still located, if I'm not mistaken. They have an international village in Americus where they have full-scale model homes from many countries they have built in - the homes are built using style and materials indigenous to each area so it's an interesting tour to take. You listen to a little spiel about H for H, then you walk through home exhibits at your leisure. I have joined with a group several times to work on Habitat homes in our area. Except for a few hicccups in the administration a couple of times (over the many years it has been in operation), it seems to be a great organization. I doubt if they coined the term "sweat equity", but it has become synonymous with habitat. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Day late, dollar short.. That's what they said at the DMV too. Oh well... I gladly lay claim to this one coz it's much nicer than that other one anyway. Pretty sure that all of the items are from your prior posts -- (except maybe the Floy Brummitt marriage -- don't know if you've ever mentioned her), So... if they are wrong or misleading....another good reason that you need to organize a list. The Floy Brummitt - Duane Lorin Weber marriage, Cook County, Il. looks pretty legit to me on the reference I found - (full name, and it's around the time he was arrested in Cook county) but you know you can purchase a copy of the marriage certificate from Cook County if you are so inclined. I've never found anything on Daisy Schuller, Madison, Mich. - that's from your posts -- so have nothing on that one. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Jo, It's kind of difficult to follow your timelines with all the narrative, but based on previous posts, is this correct: --June 1941 - May 1942) Duane entered Navy in Bad conduct discharge approx 1 year later. --Mar 31, 1943 - July 1943) Duane enlists Army - two months in he is dishonorably discharged. --Oct 11, 1943 Marries Daisy Schuller, Madison, Michigan --Oct 25, 1944 Marries Floy Brummitt, Cook County, Il, --Nov 25, 1944, Arrested in Chicago. --Then to McNeil in 1944?? Robert99 - I found document that he was enlisted in Army in Ohio 31 Mar 1943. Maybe one reason he is discharged from Army within two months is because they found out about his Navy stint?? This was wartime, after all - maybe they were going the warm body route to enlist and then the paperwork caught up with him?? Would that have been a possibility then?) Jo - I've asked for this before so pardon if you posted it and I didn't see it, but it would be wonderful if you could complete the timeline as far as you know it - organized as above. WADR, Your story becomes very disjointed and rambling at times so it's hard to know where to begin if you want the help that you ask for in looking things up. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill
