me too. LOL...I'm just glad Robert B let all know he has a sense of humor...but in the best of all possible worlds (here I go again)... when he learns to recognize rhetorical questions....as in "My question was rhetorical. I wasn't really expecting an answer" , life would be just about damn perfect. See what I said was........oh, never mind.

Paulie disappointed me when he failed to remember that someone might only want him for his money and forgot that prenup thing that all billionaires should have committed to memory (Just a guess there). So I'll look to Black Sabbath and the Goonies for my words of inspiration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq5Ejw42Yog http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eSl3X0brZU Edited to say... why assume it's useless? In the best of all possible worlds...If a comparison of DNA between cut lines and tie could yield a positive, and Kaye, Carr, and other known holders of both of the aforementioned articles could be excluded based on logical assumptions (such as Carr was probably a toddler when this thing went down), what's left might (just might here) be of some benefit. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Or maybe not....http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/FBI-gives-new-details-on-D-B-Cooper-case-1689833.php#photo-919497 Edited to say ...click on the photo with Carr holding up a pink parachute. Hope he didn't scratch his nose here....http://www.examiner.com/airlines-airport-in-national/d-b-cooper-the-surviving-evidence-video Or here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14vcRAi3mhs&feature=player_embedded#! Point being...to my Monday morning quarterbackin eye, the way the stuff gets handled looks pretty cavalier to me....just saying but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I feel your pain. I've brought this up a couple of times before in this forum and it didn't get much discussion then either. Interestingly enough, like you, the first time I wondered on this forum as to whether other sources of DNA could be found was after I saw a show about the Tim Masters case and the touch DNA folks from the Netherlands. Would it be unlikely now, given all the skin cells post hijack that "appear" to have come into contact with those lines, that anything useful could be discerned?? OTOH.. wouldn't it be great if DNA was found and analysis could be performed? They might get a better sample or perhaps at least get enough info to match the tie DNA with any that might be found on the cut lines? Thereby giving more validity to the conclusion that it really was Cooper's tie? And perhaps coming up with a sample that would be more definitive in ruling out various and assorted uncles, husbands, fathers, and brothers? Also...if, in fact, they only tested the tie, I would love to know the thought process behind only testing it (the tie) for DNA and not other "known" areas that he touched - such as the lines. Oh well...guess I can chalk all this up to my admittedly microscopic knowledge of DNA analysis along with a whopping dose of wtf.

Well crap, guess that excludes my Uncle Pyle.

There is an FBI office in Minneapolis. And yes, it could be because the hijacked airline was headquartered there. I guess I asked for that.

Not going back to look, but I have no doubt this site has been linked here before. Worth repeating. Off topic to DB specifically (as far as i know now ), but lots of interesting stuff on this site for anyone interested in mil history, specifically parachuting in combat. I thought these two articles were interesting. Historical archives section has some cool reads. Main site: http://www.517prct.org/documents.htm Article (longer read): http://www.517prct.org/documents/odyssey/odyssey_history.htm In the first part re: Camp Toccoa - some interesting tidbits on soldier selection for this unit. Not saying who but kind of reminds me of stories we've heard in the past. I admit I get bogged down in the mil maneuvering stuff, but, if you can make it through the whole thing, is a good read. Article (don't know why, sure it wasn't meant to be humorous, but this one made me smile): http://www.517prct.org/documents/selection_of_the_parachutist.pdf but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Thanks. Like i told Snow I definitely make mistakes but i don't intentionally mislead. I accepted his apology and offered mine for my response to his 377 post and a pm. All's well on the Eastern front.

I think, but only a guess, that SE- 164-81 is designation for Seattle office. I also think it is part of a larger document (see pg numbers). Do they customarily stamp each page or just the cover page? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

377 Yeah I've done that with websites before. That's why I thought the pdf might be on his "work" site - and why I checked the address from the original site. Course its not inconceivable that I could have had both sites up and made a mistake -- otherwise I would've sworn that the address with the pdf link was his published Hunt for DB site. Doesn't make me stupid either-- or a liar. (btw,,,Thanks for the pm Snow, but I really don't need em) . Maybe when you guys channel Snow you could edit out his penchant for abuse...like calling people stupid....doesn't take away from the actual info. Just a suggestion. Oh well....life goes on......

377 Not that it matters, but for accuracy......If you're talking about the link that I posted to the parachute pdf, actually the "leak/link" was originally accessed from his Hunt for DB Cooper site. At the end of one of his archived posts ( I think about the parachutes) there was a hyperlink button entitled "Read File" which took you to his "myprojectstatus" page with the pdf. That is why I included both urls in the post - the original url where I accessed the pdf link, as well as the pdf url - -- to give credit where credit was due.... (oops). Edited to say -- at least that was my intent. Looks like I inadvertently posted the main project status page url instead of his the Hunt for DB site. Anyway...fwiw...doesn't change the fact that the pdf link was originally on the Hunt for DB Cooper site. Don't want anyone to think that I've been hacking someone's website.

Nope, not a chance in hell, but he might refrain from insulting Quade. Honor and respect is too high a price for readmission. I don't honor and respect Quade, but I behave decently. One position that Quade took that I certainly do respect, is his standing up to the horde of skydivers that want the DB Cooper forum gone. He gains no points from most skydivers for letting us continue, believe me. I don't think Quade requires bows and scrapes, just good behavior on the forum. That should be enough. 377 Lol.....good behavior .....hmm....seems like I remember that Frosty already did a re-entry as nexusofcivility. How long did that last? lol...Quade's quandry......Let it snow or no.

Re: Parachutes. Not sure if this has been posted here before or not, but maybe this will help shed some light on the legend of the dueling parachutes.....

Thanks Bruce. I forgot that you interviewed Cossey. I was thinking that you were just going on media reports and I had remembered reading somewhere that Cossey did pack them but was more of a contact, not an actual provider, on the actual night. That had always had me confused because most news reports listed Cossey as being the main guy and left out Emrich and Hayden Mea culpa...Since you got it from the horse's mouth, I guess you're right - someone's fibbing. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill
-
Right, but I think the two you are referring to are the chest packs. I think Bruce is referring to the back ones. And if I read correctly, Bruce is saying that Hayden says that Cossey packed those also. I wonder if the two terms (packed vs provided) have been used so interchangeably that it is universally accepted that Cossey provided all the chutes. Bruce says Cossey lied. So I'm just asking - Did he ever actually say that he provided or was it just always inferred? For some reason I thought that I had read somewhere that Cossey did not actually "provide" the chutes - just packed them.... and maybe told them where to get them from. If I can find my source I'll post it. But like I said - I could be remembering it wrong. Won't be the first time that's happened on this thread, huh?
-
Ok I'm confused. There were a total of 4 chutes. Two are missing from the plane after Cooper jumps. (One of these is presumably a training chute (inoperable for Cooper's purpose). That leaves two left on the plane. One is intact, the other one has the cords cut up. Are you saying that the only parachute that the FBI has in its possession now is the cut up one? Plus I'll have to go back and look, so I might be wrong - but for some reason I had the impression that Cossey was not credited (and did not claim) that he provided the chutes, just that he packed them. ?? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Hey Jerry. Not sure that this will lead anywhere since seems it would be a fairly simple process to go to another state and say your tag was stolen. Would they have had the ability to cross check DMV records across state lines then? ...Or he could just steal or exchange a tag off another car. If someone switched tags on me I'd never know it unless I got stopped for an out of date sticker. (remember when you were actually required to put your tag number on a hotel registration -- I always had to go back outside and look at mine....I guess some folks keep that number in their brain but I would bet more of us don't)

377 Someone mentioned whether there are photos of Braden. If that's him in the pdf, he's definitely got the baby blue eyes going on. Found this also, but I didn't go any further into the site to see if its the same Ted Braden so may not be. http://www.specialoperations.org/images/hetrick_slides/phpslideshow.php?directory=.¤tPic=16 but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Thank you for posting this link. I've tried several times before to access DBC videos at nbc archives but was never able to for some reason. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Won't be as good as having the original magazine article from the safety deposit box, etc., but if the writer is the same John Mullins that is the real-life / author / veteran / black ops guy that the character in the Soldier of Fortune game is based on, he can probably be contacted for dates of when the article originally came out - if that is something you want to know. Search on John Mullins Vietnam for a web page or contact info. Or you could contact SOF magazine archives dept. Not sure if having the date is something that would help - just a suggestion. An "example of a successful coverup". A bit of a paradox, huh?

I agree with what you're saying -- I also think something is missing from the transcripts and I've also seen a picture of the crew sitting in a row with Rat*** looking sideways at Tina and Scott looking straight ahead that I thought would be a good study for a body language expert. Not to mention her whole persona - body language and otherwise. (Edited after I looked at the picture again -- she is talking so maybe he's just looking at her as she talks. - but for some reason that pic has always stuck out to me -- maybe because they look kind of dour and she looks so animated) Not discounting your theory yet - Just saying that human nature being what it is I don't understand why the post hijacking "testimony" played out like it did and why no one ever let it slide. I'm assuming here that they were all debriefed separately. On the other hand, maybe they did..... in the article I mentioned that was (posted here long ago by Snowmman) about turbulence, I believe Scott said that he tried to contact the hijacker after the turbulence and the hijacker said (paraphrasing) he was okay. Maybe they tried to pitch him and he got pissed and tossed their food around. Course snowmman also mentioned that the article mentioned used $20 bills...so here we go again. I don't disagree with anything you've said -- something has always been strange about the whole transcripts, crew, and Tina thing. Just don't know what it was. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Damn, I think I got it now. Seems you're saying the source is the FBI.
-
Like Orange1, I don't understand 1) why the FBI wouldn't have been told this, or if they were, still opted to spend how many times over the money gained in the hijacking still supposedly searching for him 40 years later?? 2) Why the public wasn't told. Corporate mentality doesn't make sense to me - Search for "hijack foiled by crew" from 1960 - 1980 and see all the articles where the crew was instrumental in stopping a hijacker. The crew members are always the good guys. The only reason Cooper is a "folk hero" is after the fact that he "got away" and didn't physically hurt anyone. If the crew pitched him by control movements in the cockpit, they could've put any spin they wanted on the story to make them look like heroes -- (i.e., he tried to attack them when he realized one of the chutes was inoperable, the airplane experienced weather turbulence while he was on the stairs, etc.). I doubt they would have even needed to spin it. Okay - so the devil's advocate in me says I can't discount anything until I try to make sense of it....so the only reason I can think that they would not have publicized this: Tina is distraught - she had an emotional investment in this guy because of the time they spent together under stress (Stockholm syndrome??). She thinks they essentially murdered him. To calm her down, they reassure her that he jumped....she tries to believe them -- but in the back of her mind she knows...and this knowledge haunts her throughout her life. In the ensuing flight, the other three crew members come to the same conclusion through between-the-lines talking and furtive glances...too much luggage here with the broad...................he was leaving, no threat to us out there on the stairs........ ummm maybe we screwed up.........maybe we need to just say he jumped. Maybe just to protect Tina's psyche or maybe they or their corporate bosses are afraid to risk subsequent investigation or that public opinion could turn sour. Nah....still don't see it. Surely, that same pilot machismo that pitched him would've been aching to tell about it? I still think they would've been heroes and if Tina publicly disagreed, they could have sworn to the turbulence from the weather (doesn't have to be a storm - Pilot Scott has stated (source - news article) that they encountered turbulence during the flight). Tina, acclaimed though she once was for maintaining her chi, would've have been summarily dismissed as a flighty female and thrown to the wolves. Sucks, but that's life. So....... I can see the crew dropping him in the lurch -- just that the crews subsequent actions don't make sense. If not another myth... and Cooper didn't throw the bags around cause he had a grudge against Sky Chef(s), could turbulence or turns or landing pitched those bags of food around? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill
