Point taken...To correct my "last word" on the subject - when I meant that the audio comes in at the same point I meant that the audio timing, (pauses, music,, etc) is the same on both films. You are correct that the snippet's audio is out of sync with the original's audio, but the point I was trying to make is that it is out of sync from the beginning of the snippet all the way to the end. It's not like that one part was changed. I have had that happen to me when uploading a video - especially one I have cut to add another portion. My slides become out of sync with the upload as compared to the original. I guess my point is I just think that it is probably a syncing issue, not meant to purposefully mislead. I don't think the purpose was to convey anything about Thailand, but was all about the airplane and the airdrops. jmho.....

Okay Jamie. Not gonna try to convince you. You believe what you believe and I respect that. I can't attest to snowmman's or anyone else's agenda so I'll not go there.... But on this particular subject, for the purposes of continuity....I'll post this and be done with the subject....Like I said, i did view the original uncut approx 1.5 hr original film in it's entirety. The original film immediately cuts away from the segment about the air drops to the one about Thailand. There is no segue, no cueing musical interlude. Just abruptly from one subject to the next. To my ears, the narrator talking about Thailand comes in at the same spot on the original as he does on the snippet. There was also a link provided to the original film that accompanied the snippet. I think that when the snippet was cut it was just cut at the end of the airdrop sequence without regard for where the narrator was taking us next, then the editor of the snipped portion showed the second skydiver again. Even if I'm wrong about the above, then this warrants repeat...the entire film was a long one - about the mission and various activities of Air America during the Vietnam era. The airdrops was a small part of the story and that small part was snipped out and linked here to show that yes, indeed, these planes were being used in that era by Air America /other contracts for air drops, and yes, the rear door could be opened in flight and used. To me, the particular Asian locale isn't important. What this snippet showed is that opening the rear door and parachuting something from it in flight had been done before and people in that arena were privy to the info - info that the airline and other players on the Norjack scene weren't aware of at the time. The snippet was one way to augment the theory that Cooper was aware of the plane's configuration/capabilities in regards to the door and jumping in mid-flight, and the theory that this knowledge may have even been a prerequisite for the entire caper. Maybe I'm missing something, but if one assumes that he meets any other "criteria" for being Cooper, I personally don't see where this particular angle would exclude your father, so I don't get the fervency here.

Then wouldn't it seem like the operators would have recruited someone who looked more in line with that generalized age group? Tongue in cheek alert....Maybe someone around Jamie's dad's age

I'm objective about all claims but I have watched the entire film from the gov site and the air america site. I just don't hear what you're saying with my ears and I'm not gonna download it to check db levels because....... My problem with this is... Why would someone bother to edit without taking out the Japan caption? While they were showing tests the narrator was talking about where airdrop flights were being made.. plus I think a link was included on the youtube page to the full length video. Just saying...the entire film was a long one - about the mission and various activities of Air America during the Vietnam era. The airdrops was a small part of the story and that small part was snipped out and linked here to show that yes, indeed, these planes were being used in that era by Air America /other contracts for air drops, and yes, the rear door was opened in flight and used. To me, the particular Asian locale wasn't as important as the fact that this snippet proved that opening the rear door and parachuting something from it in flight had been done before and people in that arena were privy to the info - info that the airline and other players on the Norjack scene weren't aware of at the time. Which leads me to the final problem I have ....... if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Snowmman one of the posters who was initially debunking the theory of 727s being used this way during Vietnam? Why would he purposefully edit a video to prove himself wrong? With all respect, I really think you're barking up the wrong tree on this one... or as my dad would say....this dog don't hunt.....but that's just me. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I guess anything's possible....I think the coincidence of Tina / Tena's bar has likely provoked a "hmmm" moment in many of us at least once. Just wondering ...Has it ever been considered that maybe a large bird could have latched on some of the bundles and dropped them on the way to a nest? I know this sounds silly but I've read about some strange items found in eagles' nests.
-
Blevins said Where is the "two or three bundles" documented? Not doubting it...just haven't taken the time to look it up and, since you're referencing it, I was hoping you'd know off the top of your head. This is excerpted from a newspaper local interest item which references Tina's sister as being a local resident: TINA MUCKLOW, sister of ....., was offered a bundle of $20 bills by a hijacker and rejected the offer. Miss Mucklow was a stewardess on the Northwest Airlines flight last November in which a hijacker took $200.000 ransom and parachuted out of the plane over the wilds of Oregon. She said she didn t accept the money because "it wouldn t be right.' but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

This might help in your search. One article I just read said he was arrested in 1985 after a clerk "with a good ear for accents" recognized his picture from a wanted poster issued by the US Marshalls Service. Said poster had been distributed to all the gun stores in the state. This clerk at the sports store, where Kiperts had come in to buy a gun, apparently noticed Kipert's "German accent" from his description, and then went to the back of the store and checked the wanted poster, which matched the guy. I guess my bolds above just further proves your point since Cooper was supposedly accent free. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Ok ...dumb question time...don't flame me too much or i'll tell Santa. How high would a plane be that is coming in for landing but still about 10 miles or so from airport? I live about 10 miles from our podunk airport and I have watched planes come into our airport about 9:30 pm est and the plane and lights are pretty visible. When it is very clear and very dark I have been able to see the markings on the plane. Not saying I would be able to see a person but I think I would be able to see an unusual lit protrusion from the rear of the plane and if something was flaming out from it. Are the planes I'm seeing probably lower than 10000 ft? Obviously I'm not a flyer or a jumper and apparently I didn't pay close attention to the captain speaking.. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Good find. I don't think I've seen this either. I've got some articles on Kiperts but they basically just tell about the bank robbery and note and then regurgitate the cooper tale -- doubt they'd be of any use to you. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

No. But you need more than hearsay evidence. Your story remains just that, a story, until you provide adequate evidence. If I were interviewing you right now I would start with this question: If the answer is less than 37 years old, I will discount your claim at face value. Every witness who described the hijacker placed him in his mid-to-late forties and I believe them. You could start there on your father. It's easy to find out someone's true age in the US if they are deceased. You simply search the Social Security Death Index. No personal info is given, but it will tell you the year they were born and the year they died. It also gives their ss number, state issued, county of birth and county of death, last residence and lump sum payment if this info is available. But his dob, Jan 28 1943, dod, Mar 12, 2005 and age in 71 (28) has already been posted (I think I just posted years before) and, not to speak for him, but Jamie alluded that this was an issue, and addressed why he feels it is not an insurmountable one. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I don't have a lot of patience with the facebook chitter chatter so I have avoided, until now, reading all of the posts on that site. (I have a facebook page but am consistently delinquent in visiting it). However, I am impartial when it comes to DB suspects, and I don't immediately dismiss anyone's claims without thoughtful analysis. That said, this guy Knoss does seem to fly by the seat of his pants, so to speak. There are a couple of contradictions in his posts on facebook, but the real tell would seem to be here: http://www.myspace.com/103350433 (scroll to the right on "blurbs - about me"). His eye crossing, sleep-inducing resume-like bio (an impressive list of accomplishments, but do prospective employers really read that stuff?) might seem to work against his claims that he was where he said he was in 1971. When would he have had the time to be a "witness" or "watcher" or whatever he calls it. Plus he conveniently leaves any mention of Leavenworth off of this bio.

Cool pics. Pun intended. The site went down today right as I clicked the next to last picture. I started thinking some of Jo's "poof" gremlins had gotten into my computer.

Sluggo said: Jamie - The above is the best advice you could get and comes from someone VERY knowledgeable of this case. I might add that Sluggo's website (I think he has a link to it in his posts) is a valuable source of info also. According to some internet research, and Jamie has verified that this is his father, the age factor does seem to be a roadblock. Jamie himself alludes to this in one of his earlier posts, as well. That said, but also understanding that eye-witnesses can be wrong and people can appear to be younger/older than they are...Donald John Cooper was born in 1943 and died in 2005. This would put him about 28 yrs old in 1971. He was married in 1963. No info on how that marriage turned out. Then he went into the army in 1966, served time in Korea as air traffic controller and got out in 1968. He then remarried in 1969.. I think to Jamie's mom.. they divorced in 1972. Just saying....if the army and two marriages won't make you old before your time, don't know what will

Was the grudge statement a myth? Unless he retracted it later, this is from a post by Ckret aka SA Carr on this subject: "I don't know how it got into the press that Cooper had something against the airlines. Tina asked him at one point why did he hijack the flight and Cooper replied, "I don't have a grudge against the airline, I just have a grudge."" post is here on the old thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3080003;search_string=grudge;#3080003 Search on the word grudge in this forum and sort by date - it will bring up many posts on this subject. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I saw a comment on another site re DB that "he could have been on an earlier flight on the same flight path and timed the seconds and speed and determined where someone would land if they jumped at the right time. Then a vehicle might be waiting." This was a regular route, correct? Understanding that winds, weather, choice of parachute, fact that he had possibly had trouble with the door, etc. are all ultimately factors....... would it be possible to determine, within say a couple of miles, where you would likely land if you jumped at a certain time using only the timing from a previous flight and correlating that with your current speed? Pros and cons? but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Actually, this is where the Unabomber case has an interesting relevance (maybe). The FBI started out with the right direction in the profile, refined it to a near perfect match.... and then changed their minds. We know more than one Cooper profile has been suggested... ***In 1980, chief agent John Douglas, working with agents in the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, issued a psychological profile of the unidentified bomber which described the offender as a man with above-average intelligence with connections to academia. This profile was later refined to characterize the offender as a neo-Luddite holding an academic degree in the hard sciences, but this psychologically based profile was discarded in 1983 in favor of an alternative theory developed by FBI analysts concentrating on the physical evidence in recovered bomb fragments. In this rival profile, the bomber suspect was characterized as a blue-collar airplane mechanic Don't underestimate profiling. I saw a documentary on this serial killer recently - they called in a profiler, who gave an extremely accurate fit, and apparently it was the first case where a criminal profile was used to get a search warrant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hansen I thought this passage (from Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kaczynski) was very interesting.... Paragraphs 204 and 205 of the FBI search and arrest warrant for Kaczynski stated that "experts"—many of them academics consulted by the FBI—believed the manifesto had been written by "another individual, not Theodore Kaczynski".[28] As stated in the affidavit, only a handful of people believed Theodore Kaczynski was the Unabomber before the search warrant revealed the cornucopia of evidence in Kaczynski's isolated cabin. The search warrant affidavit written by FBI Inspector Terry D. Turchie reflects this conflict, and is striking evidence of the opposition to Turchie and his small cadre of FBI agents that included Moss and Puckett—who were convinced Theodore Kaczynski was the Unabomber—from the rest of the UNABOM Task Force and the FBI in general: 204. Your affiant is aware that other individuals have conducted analyses of the UNABOM Manuscript __ determined that the Manuscript was written by another individual, not Kaczynski, who had also been a suspect in the investigation. 205. Numerous other opinions from experts have been provided as to the identity of the unabomb subject. None of those opinions named Theodore Kaczynski as a possible author.[28] but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

mho I think he's a teacher. If he's not, he should be. (I'm talking presentation here). I would have loved to have had him for a statistics teacher in school. He actually made it interesting.
