  1. Brian's family received his body yesterday. I went to see him at the funeral home. He looks pretty good considering the trauma he went through. I almost didn't recognize his bride. She looked as though she hasn't eaten or slept in the last ten days. If there was a protest, I will trust my PG buddies to do their job. Anything I do would probably bring more limelight to the family and right now they wish to mourn in peace. IF I were not a man trying to be like Christ -- I'd like to meet Fred felps (I'm NOT spelling his name like mine) in a dark alley somewhere. BUT I am a man trying to be like Christ so I will trust God to give me the strength to love the very unlovely. steveOrino
  2. Yes, it would be Christ-like to love those who hate us. steveOrino
  3. I have decided to sit with my wife next to the family. I'm sure I will contain myself. I appreciate the thoughts of you guys on the forum. May God's peace be with Brian's family. steveOrino
  4. For exercising their right to assemble and protest? You don't have a right not to be offended. And as for the reverend, I thought part of the duties involves resisting temptation and setting an example for others. Getting into a fight hardly seems appropriate. Sadly, I agree with you on all points in my intellect and in some ways my spirit, but my gut wants to punch him. Dude, I'm human as the next guy. steveOrino
  5. Nah, going out to the DZ to video tandems and AFFs. We have two weeks of work backed up due to weather. That seems like a better use of my time. But I still stand by MY point. I voted for Bush. I can't stand what he has done in his handling of Iraq, but I'm not convinced Kerry would be any better. If I KNEW Kerry (heck, Hillary for that matter) would take us out of that quagmire, I would have voted for him. But I don't know that. I only know Bush pooched us. steveOrino
  6. All war sucks, but this one especially. It reminds me way too much of Viet Nam. (Please let's not debate that here) But after going over to Brian's parents house the night they found out and see them staring at a TV with the sound turned off, it was too much. "I don't know what to do." was his cry. I have one son in SF and a son-in-law who has been over there twice and going back in the fall. The thought of someone protesting these guys funeral is something that may cause me to do an irrational act. I guess there are better ways to spend my energy. Maybe I can find a few old team members who have "connections". steveOrino
  7. Oh Bill, always the voice of reason! But it would feel soooo good! steveOrino
  8. I don't know how much it would cost. I have never been arrested. Boy don't you know that would make national news. "Rev." Phelps punching out "Rev." Phelps (no relation -- thank God) at a funeral service. BTW - NO ONE calls me Reverend, but I'm sure the news would think it catchy. steveOrino
  9. I'll see Terry this afternoon at SDA. We have tons of tandems and AFFs backed up from many weekends of rain. I'll pass on your best wishes. steveOrino
  10. If I can get my videos done at SDA I am. steveOrino
  11. Its bad enough they have to dishonor my father's good last name with their fundy wacko antics, but if the Kansas Phelps group protests the funeral of a Sapulpa soldier killed in Iraq I may not be able to restrain myself. All deaths are tragic, but this one is hard for me. As his pastor, I perfomed his marriage ceremony, I baptized him, and dedicated his infant daughter. If I see these guys protesting Brian's funeral I may lose it. A punch in the face certainly isn't Christ like or legal either, but if someone would pay my bail, I believe I can get forgiveness from the Almighty. steveOrino
  12. All great photos -- especialy 1st place. I also like the composition of Smithers' photo. Way to go, Dave! steveOrino
  13. Well said. I never believed it was intended to be a history book or science book. steveOrino
  14. How articulate you are! You kiss your momma with that mouth? EDITED TO AD: I'm amazed at how many people make fun of the "hicks" and "rednecks" go to Walmart, yet have such a limited vocabulary that they use the F word as a noun, adjective, verb, adverb, exclamation, etc. Makes me laugh. steveOrino
  15. cat= 13 year old. yep, that sums it up. Have you ever tried to get a 13 year old boy to bathe? steveOrino
  16. You proved my point. Kerry would have most likely done the same things if 98 out of 99 senators were for it. Would he have been better? I can honestly say I don't know. BTW - your point that Clinton took a stand is kind of laughable. I liked him a little and I thought apart from so many personal flaws he was an okay president, but he was the king of popular poll politics. steveOrino
  17. Bill, we disagree on some of your points. The three branches of government should bring balance. The presidential veto is a right he has and he should use it on occaision. (I wish it were use less on partisan idealogy, but that is another issue). You may want a president who signs off on everything congress passes, but I don't. He did get approval from congress for his actions in Iraq. Why do you insinuate he didn't? EDITED TO ADD: I don't think a strong leader = king. I don't agree with much of what Bush has done in Iraq, but I seriously doubt I'd been happy with Kerry's decisions/indecisons on that issue as well. steveOrino
  18. I do not know what Kerry would have done, but neither do you. I felt he was a liar and player. He had no ground on which he stand. Flip/flop comes to my mind when describing him. I saw him a lot like Clinton, always sticking his finger in the air to see where the the wind is blowing at that moment. One of Bush's great strengths is also a great weakness. He makes a stand and won't budge (right or wrong) I don't like that at all, but I also detest those who have no spine. And old saying - "Better the enemy you know than the one you don't." steveOrino
  19. Me neither. Bush was never my first choice but the alternative would have been a lot worse. - My sentiments. How so? I don't approve of a lot that Bush does/did, but it is my honest belief Kerry would have, could have done worse. Am I right? We'll never know. steveOrino
  20. In my view it is a compromise. Many of us old farts were brought up with prayer in school. Especially those born in a southern state like Texas. Prayer was removed from public school. A moment of silence is a wise compromise. For the religous it allows them to satisfy the god of their choice (Personally I find it a little ridiculous -- I don't need silence, or your approval for me to pray) For the spiritual, it is a moment to connect. For the atheist it is a moment to ingrain how much you hate god thumpers. So, see, we can all be happy with the wise compromise. steveOrino
  21. Me neither. Bush was never my first choice but the alternative would have been a lot worse. - My sentiments. steveOrino
  22. Here's you a yes vote. I like 'em, yah man, I do.
  23. I did .. a MAC 512 back in 1986. I kept it until 1991. steveOrino
  24. I'm one who stood by NLE over Linear editing for a long time. I finally purchased a linear editing board. The simple truth is I can edit a 6 minute NLE in about 8 minutes. No way I can do that with our NLE system (took about 20-25). Plus the NLE crashed on me so many times I can't count (thanks Mr. Gates) Apart from not being able to time music exactly, the only thing I miss is not being able to add stills from my Rebel. steveOrino
