  1. Okay, now back to important stuff, like skydiving. Be off with you lad!
  2. Dude, you live in OKLAHOMA!!! Move to East or West Coast. That will give you a taste! steveOrino
  3. Or maybe they don't feel like wasting time trying to teach those who don't take higher education serious. hmmm steveOrino
  4. And you're from PA???? AKA QB state. Now I'm not saying American FB and BB don't lend themsleves to TV ads, but seriously you don't think that is why it is popular? How would your theory explain the popularity of BB before TV???? steveOrino
  5. I suppose it is relative. I grew up in TX where American football was king. I lived in Alaska for 7 years when I was in my late 20's and early 30's. I went to the State FB championship game (in October!) and 200 people were there. (15,000 for a state game in TX) Then I went to a cross city hockey rivalry Service HS vs Dimond HS in Anchoarge ... 2500 standing room only. I think if I stayed in AK I could have learned to like hockey. IMHO, it depends on what you play. I never played soccer, can't stand it. I never played golf until 38, couldn't stand it. From 94-2001 I played a lot of golf and I liked watching it. I took up skydiving again in 2001, and I can't watch golf anymore. ... steveOrino
  6. Worse, it's like hockey without the fights. I'd rather watch grass grow than soccer (football). steveOrino
  7. Thanks for the dr. pepper on my keyboard. steveOrino
  8. first jump: May 1977 Jumped for 3 years until 1980. Started again in 2001 after raising kids. I don't count the first three years. Like another poster said. If I said I have 29 years in the sport, some would think, Why so few jumps, or others would wonder, why do you suck? steveOrino
  9. We trained Baloch tribesmen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baloch Hardly hand picked soldiers of the Shah. They were more like the MONTAGNARDS from Viet Nam. Miliatry base?? Yeah, right. ROFLMAO! Oh, I forget , you're serious! You're right the dude's interactions with Iranians during his ski vacations must carry more weight. steveOrino
  10. How's this from eleven years ago when I was 40 and pastored a large church in Seattle? steveOrino
  11. Tell that to the Sailors in the USS Cole I said relatively... USS Cole, Embassy bombings, first World Trade Center attack, etc. YOU may consider that relative and "normal" Most Americans don't! You kick sand in my face, I'm not going to sit around and discuss who started the fight. I'm going to kick your butt. But what do you expect. I'm one of the "ugly americans" steveOrino
  12. reality is hard to face for some of these guys, eh? steveOrino
  13. Tell that to the Sailors in the USS Cole steveOrino
  14. Some of what is said about USA is right. We’ve over stepped our bounds in areas we should have stayed out of. But let’s face it – we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t. If we did nothing in Somalia we would have been criticized as we are today for inactivity in parts of the world. If we step up to the plate (sorry for the American idiom – look it up) we get criticized for doing that. I’ve seen it throughout my 51 years. Those who don’t measure up to others criticize rather than do anything constructive. For example: It is much easier for people to criticize and demonize Bill Gates than to invent the next operating system. It’s called envy. steveOrino
  15. *snickers* That so-called "argument" doesn't work since even Russia itself isn't communist anymore. Yeah, right. Are you THAT clueless to WHY Russia isn't communist? The downfall of the USSR was the result of them bankrupting their economy trying to keep up with Reagan (God bless him!) steveOrino
  16. Honestly? I really don't think about it much. I assume that by your posts. It may make me look like an ugly American, but unless I read an USA bashing post in SC, I never give it a second thought. MY ORIGINAL POST IN THIS THREAD ------------------------------------------ Probably about as much as the average frenchman worries what I think of him. steveOrino
  17. It ain't personal - it is about perception. US has the perception of being a bully that is hated by all the countries who love our money and military help. steveOrino
  18. Mine is Craig (Means dweller of the crag) Everyone in my family had "family" names except me. I feel left out. My legal signature is Steven C Phelps. Since Craig had no sentiment to me or my parents (I guess - they're gone now) I thought about changing Craig to Captain.
  19. And you're a great example of a European who criticiizes everything the US does, but you love our help whether it be money or military when you need it. steveOrino
  20. Yeah, they all loved us before then. We were all warm and fuzzy. Gimme a break! steveOrino
  21. screw NATO. I wish we were not a part of it. They're corupt. Yep, I guess we should have stayed out of Germany after we saved France and England's butt from Germany's agression.. Of course, if so, Germany would be communist by now. steveOrino
  22. Okay, I give up. Semantics. The question was how many jumps makes you experienced? I was not buying a gal with 100 jumps and 3 reserve rides is more "experienced" than a guy with 3000 jumps and 0 reserve rides. She has three jump suits to his one. I guess she is more "experienced" in skydive fashion too. steveOrino
  23. Still not good reasoning. A girl with three resreve rides in 100 jumps is NOT more "experienced" than an AFFI with 3000 jumps and no reserve rides. This is in a discussion about "how many jumps makes you experienced." steveOrino
