Your parents have a very valid concern! Make no bones about it, skydiving is an extream sport that can and does cause serious injury and death. Like Bill said above, be a big boy and make your own decision. But, be ever vigil to the dangers of this sport. Oh! And, welcome to the sport. Another sunglass mounted camera system-Pivothead
skyjumpenfool replied to LouDiamond's topic in Photography and Video
The size of the whole setup is way too big. Can't they get that system to fit into the top button of my jumpsuit? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
We've been using older Furry's for CRW. It's easy to tell when their done because they flair like a brick. At that point, "car cover" is about it. I picked one up a couple years ago. It only had 30 jumps and flies and lands really well. I paid less than $100. Not much market for F-111 except for us idiots? Hope this helps. Unfortunately, the people above forgot the most important information you'll need to know for your first jump..... Smile a lot and have fun!!!! Welcome to the sport. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Can you post a pick of the setup? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

My helmet is setup for different still cameras. When I'm using the Cannon G-10 with a Lensemate filter adapter, the filter adapter moves as you've explained. I simply wrapped a pack band around the filter cover where it threads to the camera base. Not only does is solve this problem, it also seals the joint from wind/moisture. I'll try to send you a pic.

I'd argue both go hand in hand. One is lost without the other. IMHO as always. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Maybe that's where I went wrong? I sold my car because the bike was more fun to ride out to the DZ. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

Skydiving and families (part 2)
skyjumpenfool replied to dontlikemustard's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Devil’s Advocate... I know you don’t want to hear this, but, your dad is right!!! In over 35 years in this sport, the only time I’ve ever been nervous in a jump plane was the day my daughter did her first Tandem and I was sitting next to her. This is a dangerous sport and you put your life at risk every time you board a jump plane. That’s a fact that you can’t sweep under the wheel skirts. And, that affects the people close to you. Your dad is not going to change his mind because he does not have your passion for the sport. Accept that and deal with it. You don’t have to lie to him, but you might consider being discrete about where and when you jump. What he doesn’t know won’t bother him. My Sig line… That’s what my dad told me the day I made my first jump. He too was correct! -
Zanggggg! (Low CReW downplane)

Wait.....what's wrong with that!?!? top Not a damn thing.... if you have the mad skillz. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Quote I would suggest that the over 1000 crowd has a greater exposure to landing fatalities than the under 1000 crowd. I think you'll find higher WL, more swoopers, and more activity in terms of overall jumps from jumpers with over 1000 jumps comapred to those under 1000. Quote Then add to that... now, the 1000 jump people will enter that phase of jumping on moderately W/L'd canopies instead of already being on postage stamps. Plus, they will have some "EARNED" skills to handle the next phase of HP canopy piloting. I’d suggest we’d see less mayhem in both subgroups. Time will tell? anyone pay for packing class during A license training
skyjumpenfool replied to firematic47's topic in Safety and Training
The owner of the DZ was happy to teach me how to pack! I later found out that I was to become a "packer". I spent the rest of the summer flaking T-10's and PC's. Packers today have it easy!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Zanggggg! (Low CReW downplane)
skyjumpenfool replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
They were always taken low....that was part of the buzz....and they used to be done lots....but then CRW was pretty popular back then and lots of people did it. And, back then, none of us had retractable Pilot Chutes Some friends got thier PC's tangled while turning a side by side into a down plane low. Imagine trying to land your canopy with your Pilot Chute wrapped around your friends PC. I survived a Low CRW mishap once, don't want to go there again. I like doing Down Planes. I find it's more fun doing them higher and working on flying them. Worst thing to happen in years was Fargo and Byron stealing by shoes. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Even a T-10 has a 3-5mph forward speed. If you crank a toggle, you'd start it spinning. Which, would increase its decent rate (remember, you were going to land hard anyway) to some extent..... Nope, I don't think the ram air ban is going to do it. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Zanggggg! (Low CReW downplane)
skyjumpenfool replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Downplanes are a blast, but done that low are a bit on the scary side (especially to a 39 jump wonder). Done right, by experienced CRW pilots, they are very impressive. The biggest problem I see here (as we're seeing in other discipines) is the copy cats that will see this and say, I can do that. If you want to do a downplane low, find the best CRW coach you can. But be warned, CRW Dawgs are the crazyest Mother%&%IUG*s on the planet. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
Yah!! Sure!! And every woman I've ever met will take it that way. We all know women don't go that "other" route. ...... Hey Pops.... Butter on my popcorn please. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
