  1. Never gamble with a skydiver! But then again... Oh hell, let me know when! I'ld love to play. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  2. Nothings Perfect! But, for a sky diver, there are certain professions that allow us to get the job done and enjoy our sport to it's fullest. We spend our lives balancing personal life, family, friends, and work all while trying to reserve some time and money for this (rather expensive) sport. Being a high school teacher, I get summers off. I get a couple weeks off at Christmas, and another week for spring break. This allows me a lot of time for jumping. Aside from the typical drop zone jobs, I want to here from those of you who have the perfect "Sky Diver Profession". What is the perfect sky diver Job/Profession? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. I started this sport in the 70's and jumped a fair amount. After a few years, along came the kids, and I was forceed to jump much less. Brought a camper to make it a "family" outing... that lasted a couple years. When the kids got a little older, it got tougher. So, I took a break from the sport to raise my kids. Now, the youngest is in college and I am again jumping. What it all boils down to is, DO YOU WANT TO JUMP OR NOT? If the spirit is willing, you'll find a way. Just make sure it's not at the expence of the children. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. I fondly remember the days when students looked forward to "upgrading" to a PC! I Made a lot of jumps on my old Green & White Checkerboard. I would be happy as a clam if that's the only canopy I owned. However, I know now what no one new then... Todays canopies are Waaaayy better. Enjoy the PC if you get a chance. Be ready to PLF and you'll do fine. As for packing... Flake carefully and keep the lines neat and it'll open. Drop me a line if you have any questions... Mike Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  5. ...and lets not forget the western SPOOF "BLAZING SADDLES"! Arguably the greatest movie ever. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  6. Careful... a serious poker habit can ruin your (probly much more serious) skyjumpen habit! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. The big advantage of a Zoon, in my mind, is the FM function. I've wanted an I-Pod for some time to use when riding my motorcycle, but I enjoy listening to FM radio. The Zoon has an FM function that works really well. Take it for what it's worth.... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  8. I had a 100 jumps before you were born! It's not over till you decide it is. Keep doin what makes you happy and you'll live forever. BS Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  9. Well, I'm not an expert on any of this, but here's my two cents; First of all, Newby in skydiver lingo would be "woofo" Secondly, hooked to an experienced skydiver would be a tandom jump. Number 3... 300 lbs would be too heavy only if she is out of shape or in some way disabled by her weight. Tandom skydives do have a weight limit due to the maximum suspension wheight of the canopy. Check the "dropzones" link above to find a dropzone near you, and call them to see what restrictions they may have. Keep in mind, my advice and 5 nicles will buy you a quarter. Most any skydiver will tell you, "Skydiving is the most fun you can have with your cloths on"! Good luck and Blue Skies Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  10. Alright folks, let's keep our eye on the ball. The question here is... Who (from the large pool of experienced CRW Dawgs out there) can give us positive input on how we can improve and expand on our efforts to bring CRW back to our DZ. The reason CReW disappeared here is that as canopies became more specialized (faster, ZP, etc), we didn't keep up by purchasing CRW canopies when we upgraded to ZP canopies. All the other disiplines are well represented here at Baldwin, including swooping and RW. Please leave the "which disipline rules" arguments to another forum. We're trying to promote CRW to a great DZ in the heart of the Midwest and we're looking for your input on that topic. Is there a Dawg out there that could run a seminar here? Do we need to scrap the old F-111's in place of newer Lightnings? Or, should we keep plugging away with these old Furrys and Mavricks in an effort to generate interest and develop skills? Should a group from here go somewhere to get training? Any ideas you have to help us will help strengthen the pool of jumpers willing and able to do larger formations with you someday. I can tell you that I've been getting e-mails from people wanting to get involved in CRW at Skydive Twin Cities. The desire is here.... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. My question to the forum is not which disipline is more thrilling. Everyone can make up their own mind on that one. My question is, how to best develope a CRW program at a smaller dropzone that promotes safety and training without pricing CRW back out of existance. We have several experienced CReW Pilots, we have interest from some younger less experience jumpers, we even have a stock pile of older CRW friendly canopies. My question to the forum is, where do we go from here?
  12. Skydivers at Balwin, WI completed a 7 Stack earlier this fall. This isn't anything to brag about, but, CReW has been gone from this DZ for many years. The reappearance of canopy formation flying started when a couple of the local skydivers asked the question… why doesn't anyone around here do CReW anymore? We explained that as canopies got smaller/faster, they became inappropriate for CRW. As people upgraded to these new technologies, CRW slowly disappeared. So at Baldwin, a couple of old jumpers (sorry Brian, but the truth hurts) dug out some old gear and started collecting retired Furrys and the like. They began recruiting some of us old (in my case, really old) as well as some newbys to CRW. After jumping a couple of canopies that should’ve stayed retired, I found an old Furry that flew well enough to put my tired old butt on the ground softly. And, as a result, I participated in several CRW formations this year. I do so enjoy CReW! Although it's good news to see CRW return to Baldwin, my question to the readers of this forum is... How do we take the next step to develop a CRW program that promotes safe technique and upgrades our old technology. Or, simply put, where do we go from here? Thanks for your responses... 15. First of all, Movie Maker is a great program for the price. I use it in my classroom to teach kids the basics, and it doesn't eat up all my budget for the year. If I get kids interested in movie editing, I quickly switch them into Adobe, Pinnicle, or one of several other great programs. As for your problem, it may be something as simple as memory! Make sure you have enough hard drive and ram to do the process. Good luck..
  16. It attracted me! Hey, put that rabbit back in the closet.... Gotta go.. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  17. On some resume' formats, you can list your interests/hobbies. Usually this is at the bottom or toward the end of the Resume. That may be a way of sneaking it in. The upside; sometimes people remember specific resumes because of little "quirks" they read. Maybe skydiving photography would make yours stand out. The downside; People who do not know about skydiving, gernerally, do not have positive impressions about the sport (or the people who participate). Good luck with the job search. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  18. Evaded that milestone almost 30 years ago... Comming up on another and trying to fly under the wire once again. Sorry, I've already said to much! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  19. I have that video in the red plastic container it came in..... Great memories!Quote Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  20. Been there... done that! 1979... on a strato cloud. I had dumped high so I had time to play with it. After flying it for a while I figured a way which seemed safe. Got a nice soft landing followed by a backwards plf. Wouldn't want to do it on any of todays ZP's. Although, the idea of backwards CRW intrigues me. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  21. As long as it's red... Nice bike! A lot of jumpers ride. Let's organize a ride from drop zone to drop zone, across the country, making a jump at every dz along the way. You can join in at any dz the tour gets to and quit whenever you've had enough. No interstates! Nothing but twisties. Size, color, or type of bike not an issue. All skyjumpen, bike riding fools welcome. What do you say??? Your friendly ZX11 screamin fool. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  22. In 1980, while attempting to land a 2 stack, my main canopy became entangled and... well to make a long story short, I rode a spinning streamer in from 400ft. Broke my pelvis in two places, broke my back in 3 places, did 12 weeks in the hospital in traction, and made a jump less than 1 year later. I'm not tough, just stupid~ Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  23. Dropzone closed on Octover 15th... for the phesent hunting season opener. You spot the jump using the terd swirl as a reference. You've made a demo jump into an ice fishing contest. Off DZ landings are no big deal... someone on a John Deere will give you a ride home. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  24. I Started jumping here in 1977 when it was called Baldwin Sport Parachute Center, after an absence from the sport(to raise my kids) the new owners and staff welcomed me back and made my reentry to the sport a smooth process. This is a graeat dropzone for students, families, experienced jumpers, and even us old fart has beens... You'll be impressed by the professional staff and warm welcome. I do jump other dropzones but always return here. It is just a great place to jump. 5 stars!
