  3. Oh!! I'm sorry, I thought this thread was going to be about something completely different. Gotta go, there's a safety meeting starting... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. Filming Tandem landings from the ground while drinking beer and packing a Katana does not count! NPSL this weekend.... we miss your ugly mug.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAOKDqB82c4&feature=g-vrec For the otter fans... might want to skip ahead to 8:00. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  6. Sorry to hear about this. The first link above is dead ended. Was it related to this incident? @ Marisan... you get an A for my "online Web Design 101" class. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. No... it means that companies with older Otters will be handing them down the supply chain when they get their new Otters. Skydiving is low on the supply chain, but Otters (like other things) will be rolling down hill.
  8. Copyrighted material is just that! Copyrighted!!! Go to his facebook page listed above, and you'll see he clearely does NOT want his work "republished" without permission. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=3675467839526&set=a.3675467679522.2148732.1059860141&type=1&theater Justify it anyway you like. Making a copy and posting/publishing it anywhere without permission is wrong. To the owner of this photo... Great sequence. Thank you for sharing on your facebook site.
  9. Ummmm? I think what you're looking for is called... "Bowling"! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  10. That'd probly work, keeping in mind there is no magic bullet here. Squares give you great range and landing off won't necesarily kill you. Each time you spot you're building that experience/skill. T-10's got us back most of the time... back in the day. Technology has only gotten better. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. The pic is hijacked... why not the thread? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  12. What Jon and Pops said above... start by studying, observing, calculating, etc? With that comes experience, with experience comes the ability to "guess/know" where the spot should be. @ erdnarob ... Um, that was an attempt at sarcasm.
  13. I'm just curious here, please don't blast my question. Are we ok with reposting an "obviously copyrighted" picture here? Great shot! I’d be curious how the photographer feels about this. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  14. Landing on the DZ is highly over rated! and, their not called "wind drift indicators" any more. The PC term these days is "students".
  15. Really? Is the art of spotting that far gone? It may be the pilots "job", but when you exit the aircraft, it becomes your responsibility! Period. OP... Great question! Check the weather. Check the winds aloft. Look at the clouds. Watch whats going on with previous loads. Ask the more experienced jumpers. Some of it's just guesswork. You might make a mistake, but with practice comes experience. Even on loads where I'm not spotting, I'm spotting.
  16. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4017670;search_string=Amelia%20Earhart;#4017670 ^Same stroy as this?^ Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  17. I won't try to interject my opinion about who is right or wrong here. I think in order for me (or any of you) to do that, we'd need to hear "both sides of this story". As I've said up-thread... Something about this situation doesn't sound right? For me, red flags are at full staff. I for one would really like to hear the other side of this story. Is there any chance that will happen? Anyone? Bueller?
  18. I have an old Silly Suite. It's red with rainbow chevrons. It's in good shape, except it appears to have shrunk a bit. It fit me perfectly in 1978 but now... well? Are you looking to buy or rent? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  19. Airbumps are just Gods way of telling you to slow down your fall rate.
  20. I don't know about that. Most of those (tandem factory) types will tell you to your face and reccommend another DZ. This DZO Sent him packing with the Bowling Speech. Again, I'd like to hear the other side of this story. As stated above, show us your log book? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  21. I was born in the 50's, grew up in the 60's, was schooled in the 70's and forgot most of the 80's.... but that brings back memories. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

  23. I've said in many other threads... "Skydiving is an extreme sport and is not for everyone"! What I find alarming here is that you seem to have (at least from what I've read) danced around the specifics of your previous jump. Provide me with more details if you want to change my opinion, but for now I'd have to side with the DZ. As for an appeals process... If the DZO said you're not jumping there any more, there is no appeal necessary! The DZO has the last say!!! Period! And, most experienced jumpers are going to applaud the DZO for taking the path less traveled. All this being said, I’m glad you found a path to success. I’d really like to hear the other side of this story?
  24. I've found this to be more of a "cultural" issue. I seems to change from DZ to DZ. As stated above, It's my gear, my responsability. Students... different issue. But isn't that where we can change the culture? A student came up to me in the boarding area a couple weekends ago and pointed out that my RSL was unattached. I praised him for being diligant and said thank you so that all the other students could hear. I later explained why it was unclipped and stowed but again praised him for catching it. Sometimes changing the culture is difficult. Sometimes.... not so much. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
