Really? How many of the instructors at those "Little DZ's in Texas" put you into a student rig without adjusting the harness to keep you from falling out in free fall? My guess is, most of those Instructors took your safety very serious. Even if you're not bright enough to know or appreciate it! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Wow! Very nicely done. I'm guessing most jumpers wouldn't even know which one of those peddles were the brakes? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -

We've seen this discussion time and time again. I'm not a fan of first man down. When I'm on a DZ that uses this method, I adhere to the rule. However, it (to me) seems to be problematic and confusing. If you're on a DZ that has wind direction issues, etc, I just feel there are better ways to deal with the issues. IMHO of course, and I know many disagree. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

So how exactly are the canopy manufacturers misleading customers? PD recommend a Max Exit Wt of 149 lbs for an Expert jumper jumping a PDR 99. An expert jumper should be able to handle a reserve loading of 1.5 with now issues. If they can't then they are not expert. You're one of those who are trying to remove personal responsibility from life and I disagree with this in the strongest terms. You misunderstand my post. I'm a strong advocate of personal responsibility!! Rarely do I make "good" decisions... ask anyone who knows me.

Sorry to hear you're still fighting this mess. Have you tried contacting any local/state/national news media? Some young reporter may have the time and resources to investigate. Not to mention, sometimes shinning a bright spotlight on things keeps people honest. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky." -
That is quite simply naive. Business exists to create and satisfy the needs of the consumer. Just because a product doesn't exist does NOT mean there is no demand for it. What if I could make a 200bhp engine that also delivered 200mpg? Don't you think that I should have the right to develop it? It is called a free market economy. Nobody forces consumers to buy anything (except the government with respect to things like insurance or emissions testing). Just because PD makes a 99 sq ft reserve IN NO WAY compels anyone to buy and jump one. That's fucking bullshit and the world needs to be a little more personally responsible and a little less willing to blame anyone else for accidents and poor decision making on the part of the individual. Seriously? Tell that to the cigarette company that came up with "Joe the Camel". The courts have a long standing track record for awarding large settlements against companies that mislead/misinform customers. Especially where personal saftey and health concerns are involved. Something to think about??

I occasional got hard openings with my Sabre1. I found that just checking the slider and pushing the nose into the canopy a bit solved the problem. Not one hard (define hard as Slammer!) opening in the last couple years. In fact, most openings are “firm”, quick, and on heading. Also, I can easily steer the opening using body English. I use my Sabre for camera jumps, so, I am concerned about how my parachute opens. Using packers… well, that’s another issue. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."

Next 30 years? A holodeck powered by quantum based computer and direct neural interaction (like a hyper-vivid stimulated lucid dream with computer induced/controlled virtual mental environments) where we can do virtual skydiving with safety protocols on (pain thresholds capped)... Skydives of that nature were chemically induced 30 years ago... How about... a Holodeck and drugs??? ...I'm just saying.

Back to the topic of acceptable Fatalities... At what point do we make the decision to dial it back a bit? It seems (this thread as an example) it depends on the person and their perspective/paradigm of the sport. I keep seeing Marisan (and others) getting called out for his support of carnage reduction. He's not an old fart aimlessly yelling at the kids!! In his own way, he has vigorously kept this conversation alive and vital. Like it or not, for that alone I salute him. It's of little consequence whether or not he's offering a solution to the problem. He is fighting the fight to keep the conversation going. If that conversation leads to an acceptable solution to an obvious problem, then he is a hero. Not because he came up with the solution, but simply because he kept the conversation alive. IMHO of course. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
