  1. ^This is what I love about the skydiving community^ Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  2. I'm just thinking... Maybe his Velo is available? We can always use more names on the list? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. Fear is a natural emotion!! How you deal with fear is something that has to be developed. I encourage all that "WANT" to skydive to try it. However, all the warm and fuzzy responses here may be leading you astray. So, with that in mind, I say to you... Skydiving is an extreme sport and is NOT for everyone. Here's why... If you're overcome by fear when the door opens, what's going to be your response when your main parachute malfunctions? Will you be able to control that fear and respond in a completely rational way? If not, this is a life and death problem. Fear is not a bad thing!! Just make sure you evaluate your ability to deal with it in an honest manner. There's no shame in choosing another sport. Try something a little less dramatic and conquer your fear at that level. Then, someday, give skydiving another chance. Your “learned” ability to deal with fear will better equip you to the skydiving environment.

  5. You can split audio tracks... what version? You will need additional software to burn to DVD's. Edited to add... Oopps.... It's been a while since I used Movie Maker. What we do is copy and paste the (audio)track. Then shorten the clips (end of the first, beginning of the second) to desired length. Not the best solution, but it works.
  6. Hmmm... that address is just a few miles from my house?? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. In the good old days, PLF training from a 3 foot platform weeded out many unfit wannabes. They simply could not (or would not) jump from 3 feet because they KNEW" their body could not take it. Kind of a "Go, No Go" gauge.
  8. Look Familiar? Awwww! So good to see! top Hey Top... Here's another of a Pup doing his first Down Plane over Skydive Twin Cities. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  9. Agreed!! Which is why I stated above... try it high on a seperate pass. Remember, good body position is the best thing you can do to help your canopy open. I'm not advocating using harness input as a manuver to avoid a canopy collision. I am, however, saying you can use harness inputs to help your canopy open "on heading" whereby you may avoid the situation in the first place. 10. No. Popping the toggles requires the jumper to get a grip on both toggles (and despite your BASE jumping desires, most skydivers do not use big grab toggles), and then it requires both brakes to release cleanly or you have just made two problems out of one. You started off with an imminent canopy collision, and have now added a canopy with a comprimised control system. The rear riser turn can be accomplished with a grip anywhere on the rear riser, and will result in a more effective amount of response vs. the amount of input required. Pulling a toggle only effects the tail of the canopy, while pulling a rear riser will effect the entire back half of the canopy. Another advantage is being able to grab the rears while keeping your eyes on the traffic hazzard. If you have to look up to grab your toggles, you're not watching the guy you're in a rush to avoid. It's much easier to grab the rears sight unseen, while continuing to watch the other guy. Back to your BASE intentions, check with your mentors, and they'll tell you that rear risers can be used to turn, brake turn, stall turn, or back up your canopy if you open facing an object. Again, quicker and more reliable than going for toggles. All this is true, but you can still fly your canopy using harness imput long before you can reach risers. This is not a "one or the other" answer. Many tools a box should carry? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. See... that wasn't so hard. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  12. Again!! You are doing research? The answers to your questions are already here.... Research!!!! This site has an excellent search tool. Use it and you'll find what you're looking for. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  13. I too have found that to be helpful. You can leave the toggles all the way up, and still make minor corrections. This can also be a great tool during deployment. You can esentially fly your canopy thru the opening sequence. Very helpful if you find yourself opening in traffic and your canopy decides to turn 30* to the left. As stated above, try it high on a seperate pass. Remember, good body position is the best thing you can do to help your canopy open. These inputs should come after the canopy is inflated. 14. Ummm? No! Doing research would include reading the decades of stuff already archived here. What you're doing is asking us to do your research for you. Not until you feel the pain do you see the gain... ...Harlow Beyer Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  15. Oh, for Cripes sake.... Then buy a DQ Ice Cream cake and see if anyone objects? The bottom line is, it's about finding reasons to celebrate our common bond. But, make sure it's not the first time you've bought an ice cream cake. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  16. You owe beer for saying this. You owe beer for being the first to respond to his saying this...
  17. If you can find a good used CX-100, depending on your mount and helmet setup, you'll like the better/easier access to the card.
  18. I think your life expectancy just decreased. @Bill I've printed this statement to show around at the DZ ... Looks like we'll be having "free fireworks" this weekend. I just love stirring the pot. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  19. Many years ago, when I was a gymnast, I damaged a shoulder exiting a High Bar in the wrong direction. The doctor at the hospital told me I would never do Gymnastics again. Basically, he was giving me the bowling speech. I went to the best orthepedic specialists I could find for a second opinion. Long story short, I was competing at the nationals 4 weeks later. All Doctors are not equal!!
  20. (in my best Donald Sutherland voice...) "what's with all the negative waves, man?" (Kelly's Heros) O.K. True enough that creating a "fairing" for a go pro will be difficult and have it's problems. The OP is not asking why not to do it, he's saying he'd like to take a stab at it. I say Good Luck and let me know how I can help. How about a blow molded clear acrylic cover?
  21. Absolutely agree... But if he's asking about designing and building a snag free camera mount, marketing and selling them, I want to make sure we encourage his effort. You don't need 200 jumps to develope a prototype? Convincing him that wearing a camera without proper training and experience is dangerous... well, that's another issue. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  22. I'm assumiing the OP is talking about producing a snag free go pro mount, and not debating the do's and don'ts of jumping cameras.... If you build something small, light, durable, easily mounted, ect. that is snag free.... you'd make a bunch of money. Personally, I can't believe it hasn't been done. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  23. The best policy for dealing with the "Farmer McNasty's" of the world is..... ... Kill them with kindness! It works. Maybe not immediately, but eventually.
  24. Technically speaking, There is no such thing as a stupid thief... that would be called a "convict"!
