  1. Umm? 16,000 foot elevator with a bar at the top by the launch pad. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  2. I'd agree with Bill for the free fall portion of this. But I think it's very noticable landijng a canopy. JMHO... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  3. I tend to notice the difference more when landing my canopy's. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  4. Have you ever seen a pilot chute out in the airplane? Now imagine your helmet PC getting out accidentally? Any way... When I started jumping camera, I spent a lot of time talking to several video flyers. One had over 10K tandem video jumps and 30 years jumping camera. He gave me some advice that I'd like to pass along... "It's really hard to cutaway a camera helmet with a broken neck!!! Make your setup as close to snag free (there is no such thing as snag free) as you can." With that in mind, I'd seek out some really experienced local camera flyers in your neighborhood. Show them your setup and listen to what they have to say. If you're a USPA member, read the SIM. Like DSE said above, read the stickies in the camera forum.
  5. I do love to stir the pot... When the lines become out of trim enough to affect the canopy's performance, I like to call that a "wear indicator". Time for new lines. Streaching may or may not work? Fact of the matter is, I don't care! Lines are cheap when my ass is on the line (punn intended). You do whatever you like. 6. Definition.... Insanity, repeating the same behavior over and over again while expecting different outcomes. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  7. Don't confuse "relative wind" to your body position relative to earth. As you leave the airplane, the relative wind is coming from the speed of the aircraft. As you accelerate towards the ground, that relative wind increases (you start to fall faster) and the direction changes. I think your "snivel" might have been caused by a sub-terminal (slow) opening. This has nothing to do with, and should not be confused with, your relative position. Talk to your instructors about this... Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  8. D-1 and D-2 signatures on your first jump certificate? Wow! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  9. ...plus, the skydiving community is a pretty small, tight knit community. I've found it better to just ask around. I recently received a message from an old friend (out of state). He was thinking of buying a rig on DZ.com. The seller listed my home DZ as his Home. I did some checking, made a couple of calls, and found out what my friend needed to know. Three minutes of my time to help out another jumper... NO CHARGE! And, most jumpers feel this way. How cool is that? First hand feedback at no charge. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  10. Mark (or any good rigger)can probably answer this better, so I'll just ask the question, do riggers check serial #'s of parachutes and AAD's against the data bases? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  11. I don't know about the student, maybe back him/her up in the progression and work on altitude awareness. The coach, however, needs a talking to. I was taught that busting the hard deck is a huge No-No! I don't think banishment is in order, but it might be a while before I'd send them out on another coach jump? But then, who in their right state of mind would allow me to be making decisions? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  12. Remember, those sites Charge good $$$$$$'s for that service. Classifieds here are FREE! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  13. I believe only one guy in this pic was still jumpen capewells. That'd be Russel and that rig was all he could afford. He was a charactor!! He put 500 jumps (at least) on that rig. I think his main was a 28' round and he'd stand it up in the peas every jump. At the shows, we'd tell the croud that he jumped it just to show them what a round looked like. He became a rigger and a few years later got his pilots license, flying jumpers in a C-180. Last I heard, Russel was still an A&P for Northwest (now Delta) airlines. This was taken before the 3 rig problem because I was not yet jumping my Northern Lite (that was purchased during that time) which needed to be tested. As I remember, you had to have it tested and they put a punch mark onto it when it passed. I'd almost forgotten about that. Wow. Good memory lekstrom.
  14. Squeek... feeling that holiday spririt? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  15. That's not an edge. She already admitted to playing nearly every hand and that she consistently loses poker tournaments. Yep!!! Just keep telling yourself that. I love taking your money. Nat - Boyfriend had two possible responses here... 1. "You got lucky. You played like shit and still won. I'll get you next time. 2. You won!!! Good for you!!! I'm so proud of you!!! I think you're the greatest!!! Wow!!!!!!! You do the math, thhen read... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He's_Just_Not_That_into_You_(film) Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  16. The truth is.... You played very poorly!! Which means the BF played extremely fricken poorly since you beat him? The best poker players I've seen are unpredictable. To the BF, you're unpredictable and it's pissing him off. That is, and will always be, your edge. Next game, show up with sunglasses but never put them on. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  17. I believe Skydive Dallas has a similar system. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  18. Shit!! I suppose I'm going to have to go X-mass shopping for the wife now? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  19. No! That's not what it boils down to at all. Look, I've been around this sport for several decades, and we've been doing (informal) check-ins since the 70's (probably longer). It's called "looking out for each other". Maybe we need to rethink the process and make MINOR changes, as the sport changes? But we do not need to put a bunch of rediculous regulations and meaningless rules into effect. Usually, groups debrief each skydive. If someones missing, where are they????? Most jumpers getting out on their own are being supervised by an I and they are thus checked in. Other individual jumpers can be the focus of the manifestor. Yes!!! It's just that simple! Let's look at the holes in the system and come up with simple, easy to implement soulutions. That is all! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  20. We're supposed to get repacks? ....... That sounds expensive. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  21. You have to first delete yourself. That gains you access to the "Delete Others" Tab. I would recommend you do this as soon as you can before others discover this process. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  22. I don't wanna brag, but, what I lacked in Mad Skillz I made up for with bullshit attitude. Or, stated another way, I wasn't as good as I told everyone I was. But as far as you can prove, I was hot shit SkyGod great. ... some things never change? Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  23. Don't turn this into a SC thread! Hey, I just picked the biggest celebrity I could think of. I was thinking... "Eagle snatches Twardo". That would definately not be SC material. Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
  24. New record... Worlds youngest skydiver> No rig, no cardboard boxes! We're talking serious Mad Skillz!! Birdshit & Fools Productions "Son, only two things fall from the sky."
