  5. I'm not sure if it's 100% ego surpressign our survival instincts. How many 1st jumpers do you know (and were you one - i know i was) that leave unstable, trying to 'land' on their feet, after jumping from the aircraft. Among other things, a good arch is sometimes a difficult task to master at first, you're trying to overcome many of your instincts to participate in this sport. So, after arch, then move on to freefall skills (docking, etc). on the gound, if you see something you want to grab 8" away from you, you'd reach out and grab it. Now, in freefall, you have to learn to supress that instinct to reach out, and learn to fly. I guess my point is - once we've started overcoming all these other instincts, and this is deamed OK, and 'good for you' - why stop there? People are bound (MOST people i woudl think anyway, defanetly not all) to keep going. keep pushing those limits. That being said, that's no excuse to not listen to other people (who have seen it happen before, or had it happen to them) trying to help you. I think that's where the ego comes in. The wuffo's said it was dangerous and stupid to skydive, and you proved them wrong. Now you want to prove this new guy who says you can't do it wrong too. That is, untill the wakeup call....
  6. Think of it this way - It's 97 degrees F on the ground and you're gonna be back in 13 minutes or less - now balance that against a nice leisurely ride to altitude in a 182. Boring and Cool awwww. 172's are even better
  7. Can I send you my 1990 Talon for a retrofit?

  13. I fly a Tri 220 - well, my last 50jumps have been on it anyway, so i don't have much experience, but... - It opens very softly for me. (Although i've heard alot of other people complain about their snappy openings on theirs, so I'm not sure if it's canopy-to-canopy construction, or different sizes opening differently) - The landings are great. Tons of flare power. - Turns are quite slow though. It's not a responsive or snappy canopy. - Seems to have quite a high descent rate (vertical velocity), and not as long of a glide (horizontal) (compared to a sabre 210 a put about 5 jumps on) I'm told that's characteristic of a 7-cell, so i'm not sure how it would compare to, say, a spectre. - I can get some pretty decent skims on landing, (straight in, without any riser input) - I'm about 255 OTD. in short - it seems to be a very docile canopy, but you have to pay attention to your landings (bit of a different flare than a 9-cell, and remember the higher descent rate at full flight i mentioned earlier). It has served me (and is still serving me) VERY well as a first canopy. I've been quite happy with it. That being said, I, personally, would prefer a tapered 9-cell about the same size because of the longer glide, and snappier turns. (anybody got a sabre or pilot 210 they want to trade ) Just remember, as you read this, i'm new, and don't know shit. This has just been my personal observations and opinions. Good luck, and have fun
