  1. well, the nano shouldn't really matter in the same way. It's solid-state, (no hard-drive)
  2. from a PURELY technical point of view, it wouldn't be a good idea either. Hard drives (all Ipods except for Nano, and Shuffle) generally don't do well at high altitudes under normal conditions. Now, ad in jostling, bumping, opening shock, etc. your ipod might not last long before the HD craps out...
  3. how about a big-way RW, going 100ish mph (down)? Edit: oh, I see you typed Ground speed. how about a big birdman flock?
  4. somebody PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Racer rsl FAR from "standard"? (With funky-no-good shit happening if you have a dual deployment where the main leaves the container second - or something?) (I dont' jump a racer, I just remember my rigger going into a little blurb about the racer RSL at our last equiment seminar, and mentioning somethign about that)
  5. yeah, but then people might actually go to my website, and laugh at my note-pad creative genious (although the hippo section is aweswome)
  6. when posting to the incidents forum, the last line of the guidelines states" "In case of a fatality please post your condolences to the Talkback forum and keep this forum for discussion."
  7. Since it would probably make more sense to keep THIS thread on-topic, I am wondering, why would S/L be used instead of the IAD method? I learn't via IAD, and am under the impression that it is the 'newer' and 'better' form of staic line. Is it infact 'better'? If it is 'better' why are jumps still done S/L instead of IAD? Is there some pro's of s/l that get lost in IAD? Thanks, Brant
  8. General question for all. Why Staic line vs IAD? I learn't via IAD, and am under the impression that it is the 'newer' and 'better' form of staic line. Is it infact 'better'? If it is 'better' why are jumps still done S/L instead of IAD? Is there some pro's of s/l that get lost in IAD? Thanks, Brant
  9. hehe awesome. kinda like monopoly, take you three rolls (in this case, weeks or whatever), or pay $50. (or whatever a donation would be). Monopoly Jr. also makes a good drinking game.
  10. dont' forget balance. It's an often-overlooked and underdeveloped part of overall fitness. There are some great excercises/positions to do using those large swiss-balls to improve balance. When I used to swim competivly (years ago), it was a part of our dryland excercises a couple times out of the week. I thought it was the dumbest thing i'd ever wasted my time on (Warning: you will look like a dork), until it actually started paying off in the pool. I find, alot of the basic skydiving skills are reliant on good balance and coordonation. Improving balance and flexibility would probably (IMHO) be the 2 best things to work on. (strength is good too - chicks love strong guys ) Oh, btw, I find this quite ironic that I'm giving advice on fitness - just look at my wingloading - hehe . not so much in shape anymore................ So, keep that in mind, you're taking advice from a fat-man!
  11. hey, I ain't sellin 'nuttin . yeah, I agree the time factor would probably eliminate almost all chance of this helping anything at all. oh well, at least if other people had the same idea, I know I'm not waay out in the weeds.
  12. haha nice!! I guess that's what I get for not opening that forum this week can anybody think of a downside to this idea, besides 'you'll probably be munching on soil before it would help'? I suppose a jumper could fixate on this handle during a pc-in-burble instead of trying to alter body position to shrink the burble. (if that is, in fact, standard procedure?) oh, and the "1 more component to maintain, and that could break down" and, thanks for the searches pringles. some interesting reading.
  13. Well, it seems there has been an influx of non-base jumper amature designers or idear-guys lately, and it's time for me to throw my hat in. I'm not a base jumper yet myself, but it is something that I am interested in for the future. I'm not farmiliar with the exact construction of base rigs, or how they differ from skydiving containers. That being out of the way, I've been reading a few stories on these boards lately, of jumpers barely surviving PCIT malfuncitons. I was awake thinking one night (that's trouble right there), and I had an idea. Now, this would only work on pin rigs (If it would work at all). Using a skydiving container as my referance, I was thinking, that the white closing loop is held in place (in my case, to the bottom flap) by a knot on the backside of a washer. The loop is then pulled through the gromets and pinned of course. Now, what if, instead of a knot holding the loop in place, we were to use a piece of cutaway cable. (The closing-loop would have to be looped on both ends, like some white 3-ring loop on some student contaiers, or Vector tandem drogue releases. ) Now, the yellow cable would be attached to another handle, say at the left side BOC. If you had a PCIT from, a knotted PC, or un-inflated PC or something, you could pull this new handle, and allow the closing loop to be pulled right through the gromets. See attached diagrams. Now, the question would be, would a PC without enought drag to pull a pin be able to lift a canopy off your back? This, i don't know. It would obviously add more complexity to the system, but if it's your last chance..... I have to assume somebody's had this idea before (or one very similar to it). It seems very simple to me. Was it ever tried, and why (or did) it ultimatly fail the test of time? Thoughts..?
  14. indeed, a balaclava and open face works great!. but, Do not wear one of those tube-scarve thingies to cover your neck/mouth! (they tend to blow up and cover your eyes in freefall - lol)
  15. i find Sypware Doctor is very good as well. It finds a few things AdAware and spybot both miss. (note, get Spyware Doctor, _NOT_ spy doctor. the latter is a 'fake' spyware program that installs it's own spywayre )
  16. hehe. now, try it in central canada, in mid-febuary it's fun, i swear
  17. oh man, if u land on the dog or the person, you can pull lower - it slows you down enought to have a full canopy when u hit the ground - lol
