A pirate walkes into a bar with a steering wheel in the front of his pants. The bartender asks "What's with the steering wheel in your pants?" The pirate goes "Yarr. It's drivin' me nuts"

I agree, that would be a nice feature. perhaps a "Send me a copy of this e-mail" checkbox that people could un-check if they didn't want to clutter up their inbox

Winter jumping -- Ski gloves okayed -- Possible dangers?
MrBrant replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
you may want to try a cheap pair of driving gloves. You can get them in 'winter insulated' but they are still thin, and have a good feel to them. This is what I use in the winter, and it works very well for me - even down below -20. (and they were cheap, about 10 bux) Anyway, I would suggest trying on a bunch of gloves before buying. (might not be something to buy blind off of the interweb if you're going to spend the big bucks on them). What I did was bring a hackey with me (similar to my handle) and found the thickest gloves I could that still allowed for full range of movement, and that I could still feel the ridges (stiching) of the 'sack through. Oh, and slippery = bad. fake leather and/or suede worked well for me. of course, just my opinion, take what you will from it -
Although I know nothing about FAR's, the way I read it is that the above quoted paragraph would not apply to this test. you are not using a single harness, dual parachute system. you are using a single harness, single parachute system. I'm assuming it's stated somewhere that if you intentionally jump from an aircraft, that you must use a single-harness, dual parachute system? but the above does not seem to deal with that issue. Although another question woudl be , if you must jump TSO'd H/C system, how can you do the live test jumps on that system to get the TSO rating? do you have to drive up here to Canada and test it

% of skydivers with titanium in them?
MrBrant replied to Orange1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
This number seems very hight to me... -
I highly doubt this. Commercial jets do not climb to 25000 ft, THEN rapidly pressurize. The situation as it happened in the Herc was VERY unusual by conventional (even skydiver conventional) standards. So I doubt mistakenly leaving a Vigil on in a commercial airliner will cause any problems. (although I don't think anybody would recomend it)

I've noticed that Firefox has pretty shitty .pdf support. IE handles them pretty well. It just pisses me off that Adobe takes a minute and a half to load, to read a bunch of text

Well, yesterday was yet another beautiful day of winter jumping. We somehow found one of the coldest day YET this year to do it though. (but, with this freakishly warm weather, it still wasn't bat - started out around -20, but climbed to above -15 later in the day) This time around it was bright and sunny! unlimited ceiling, and the only cloud in the sky was from the Crown Royal plant. We had total of 8 jumpers show up to brave the cold in pursuit of sport we all know and love. The 182 flew a total of five loads, with most people making 2 jumps each. I learn the hard way that the snow wasn't nearly as soft as last time though. I went to do a "dig a hole, and get stuck in snow up to your waist" landing (as was fun 2 weeks ago). Unfortunately, the snow was nice and hard, and (to the delight of the others watching) I ended up bouncing (ouch, I hate that word) up about 3 feet to finally land about 5 feet from initial touchdown. But all was well, and no injuries (the snow wasn't THAT hard) Other memorable events include: - First winter jumps for Cliff, Allan, Joe, Kevin, and two other Steinbach-ians I forget your names - sorry guys! (we're still waiting on the beer) - First jump on non-student gear for Cliff (transition to a sabre 210 from a Manta) - I think he liked it - First downwind landing (5mph) for Cliff on said gear. And he stood it up! Great job buddy! - hauling up and helping to install a huge fucking picture window in the DZO's house after a long day of jumping. Looks great now, and we scored a free dinner out of it! Thanks Andrea and Hutch! Unfortunately, I forgot my camera this week, and wasn't able to get any pictures. But I do have a few from 2 weeks ago. Only three of us came out to jump then, but that was a blast too! (although that week was a little cloudy, and we only got H&P's) So, without further adieu, I give you last weeks pictures:

Ok, I'll play Not much on the nicknack end of things, but I do have my Hippo CD case, and a couple CANPARA magazines (for trips to the can). After a year of workign off of 3ft of an 8ft table, I finally have a desk! well, actually 2 8ft'ers. I actually have space to work now!

Should I be scared now? I'm just trying not to get hunted down....

Nice catch, good job looking out for your safety and the safety of others. However, I'm not sure that grabbing and pulling at somebody's chest strap is the best way to call their attention to a problem. I, for one, would be extremely irritated if somebody I don't know, and I wasn't jumping with, came up and started grabbing and pulling on my gear before a jump. Shouting or gesturing might have been a better alternative as a first attempt (grabbing as a last resort). That's just my opinion of course, and like I said, good job at noticing a problem

Is the bullet not considered a 2-pin reserve container?

what should I get for my first rig?

Yup, my experience has been the same. Bundle up, and all is good. I use my thin gloves jumping in the winter too. With the mitts, I meant that if you had the stuipd idea (like me) to do a h&p from 9k, bring 'em in your jacket, and put them on under canopy. I don't own a full-face helmet, myself, but (after talking with others on the load) I think that's just as well. The other guys had full faces, but under canopy they had to open them b/c of frosting. (remember, it was -20) so their faces where what really got them cold. I just wore a belaclava under my ski-helmet, and was just fine with that :) Lesson number 2 I learnt last year, was with those neck warmers. Don't wear them to cover the open part of your belaclava (keep 'em on your neck, not your face). Neck warmer on face + 120 mph = scarf flip over the eyes I love winter jumps
