  1. hmmmm. where was the line and fabric 'complication'.....near the tail of the canopy or near the nose??? was it a steering line or a suspension line? curious indeed..... what size main???? your own gear ?? or rental gear??? who did the pack job??? could the problem have been there right from the beginning,,, but hidden from your sight by the slider??.. when it was up near the connector links/ slinks?? and it only just became 'visible' to you after pulling the slider down past the links??? Not real sure of how "pulling the slider down" actually works... In all my time. I have only used a split slider and a collapsable slider.... glad you're OK... and Glad to know that while I was looking up at a beautiful blue sky around these parts, as assuming someone WAS jumping in the area, glad to know you were among that group .... tough call on that sort of a 'mal '..... they can deteriorate suddenly and sometimes below your own personal hard deck... i'm happy to know you landed safely cody..... jmy t

    Whuffos

exactly........ I always called them "barstool skydivers" make a jump.. letting a real skydiver ( the TM ) handle most all of the 'hard stuff'... then spend the rest of their lives using the event to somehow try to impress people... they are actually the worst sort of reps..... for the sport... oh wellllllll life's not fair....
  3. valid point billvon... re "An undercover operation inside the club" ...come again???? Drugs? ...Vice? liquor violations?..... or were the cops just killin' time and 'taking in the sights ' themselves,,, when they first "observed" this 'bachelor party'.. hmmm black patrons,,,white cops.. maybe white 'dancers'..... and some testosterone running rampant..... that can spell trouble..... ...As for a 23 yr old "man",, finally getting around to legitimizing his 'woman' as a wife, and already with 2 children on the scene..... He sure does NOT need to be going to a strip club with his 'boys'.. the damn nite,, BEFORE his wedding.. A real man....first of all wouldda married the girl years ago, and second of all should have been seeing to the arrival of all these outta town guests,, and NOT prepping himself to be hung over for his own GD wedding... ( imho) wrong time wrong place for all involved,, but if there was lots of drinking and then erratic driving, and then lost tempers and then altercations... well sadly we see the results.... as for black on white or white on black.... i'm losing my patience over hearing that.. it's more likely,,,,,stupid on stupid, sorry for the rant. jmy
  4. sure thing about the 'germ spreaders' ****** wolves in sheeps clothing******* could it be Muenkel that your resistance was low??? as a residual effect of the disappointment from those damn N Y Mets.. NOT making into the world series..??? better get well sooooon ... before Spring Training starts fluids help, broth and crackers....
  5. hmmmmmm I suggest "emphasizing the positive"... and someone posts a video of a person who WON'T leave the airplane..... how much more NEGATIVE can you get????hahaha
  6. whoa whoa whoa an important part of jumping is to "emphasize the positive".....find something good about each jump you make... whether tandem or solo... Please do not make the mistake of beating yourself up.... ( or calling yourself chicken) since many many jumps will have moments where we did this less than perfect or we could have done that a bit better... You have learned from this recent jump and so that is a good thing ... Hang in there... and be SURE to do things correctly next time. and Yeah.... I guess you may wanna check your altitude a couple of times on EVERY jump..... Still all is well... only,,,, try to not let the excitement of the skydive distract you from your tasks at hand... Rely on your instructors and be sure to appoach YOUR responsibilities in such a way that you build accomplishment on top of accomplishment...Understand what is expected of you before you board the plane and then concentrate on doing it. What sort of aircraft are you using?? are you exiting at 13,500..... or 10,500 ??? additional tandems are great as long as you perform strongly on each of them... Do NOT take the approach,,,,"I'm worried".....and do Not even think.. " i will screw up bad when.....".. baloney......you will listen to the information which you are taught, you will practice things on the ground, your instrcutors will prepare you.. and you WILL do GREAT... You Can,,,,, and You WILL... hahahahahaha have fun good luck. j t .....o[:-)........
  7. if you've planned for january to start aff and $$$ isn't a factor...sure make a few more tandems,
  8. she DOES have an irritating way about her... and i find it hard to watch her for more than a minute or so... she seems to practice " ambush journalism" not advocacy............... now Paula Zahn....... I can listen to ( and watch) HER,,,,, for hours............ jmy
  9. sudden unexpected sounds, images or occurences tend to make me jump... but i settle out real quick and then can deal with them... People who declare that since they are afraid of skydiving and of "looking waaay down", and of heights.... that I too should be scared, well those sort of people frighten ME.
  10. I hope NOT ........... maybe this is the "pre-quiz" for the anatomy exam... since it's got you thinking about physiology
  11. Yes I've done a few. They are really fun and require that everyone really THINKS ( I know ,,, rare to expect of skydivers ) through out the whole thing,,, especially if it is multi-point... I have seen guys read their piece of paper once,,, and then throw it out the door !!! and I saw a guy read HIS and then Eat it... and I've seen others read it TEN times, and still be scratching their head, when the light came on....hahaha Lots of laughs and Hi - 5's when we landed... The organizer has a lot of work to do for them,,, so if you have a chance to be part of one take it seriously and respect the person who puts it together....and of course ...ENJOY it... jimmy
  12. RR # 1 cutaway a French Papillon using shot and a half capewells. 26ft navy conical reserve. ( had switched out the main in my container, with this second bagged canopy, lines were criss-crossed.) jump# 525. .....1976 RR # 2 Total. on a H & P .. pulled reserve blasthandle.. ( had trouble extracting belly-band mounted PC)...'77 RR # 3 Twisted that same belly band, deployed into a PC in tow,,, with pulled trough the twist, enough to extract the closing pin,,,, Bad got out of container, Canopy did not get outta bag. Pulled blasthandle. Got Lucky...'78 RR # 4 Cutaway a strato cloud that had a steering line which was knotted up. 3 rings 26' Strong Lopo circa 1980... RR # 5 dislocated rt shoulder at exit.... Pulled reserve left handed at 3 grand... ok landing july 2005. First square reserve ride. RR #6 total. could not find/reach PC handle. pulled reserve left handed...sept '06...( coincidentally my most recent skydive ) jmy
  13. ...hmmm interesting.. I have mini-dv tapes from 1998. they were recorded on a DCR-TRV7 and often those would have video playback issues on my VX -1000 and sometimes on later vintage trv20 and trv 27.... so... I just always stuck with using the proper camera whenever I was editing footage... thanks for the heads up about not putting those tapes into a newer model and possibly hurting the heads....advice taken... so dry tape is the way to go.... o[:-) jmy
  14. " all results are in camera only" so then playback mode won't sharpen things... BUT newly recorded footage will be great....sounds good to me... I pretty much expected that... In fact I have noticed that tapes recorded on one Mini-dv camera sometimes did not play well on other Mini-dv cameras,,,,( i have 4 of them ) I was only thinking that the HC models might now have new technology in the playback mode...and maybe it does... I'm asking Santa Claus to put one in my Christmas Stocking..... but AFTER the lumps of coal... so it won't get scratched !!!
  15. .... the playback of my old mini dv tapes??? If I played a tape which was recorded on a sony trv 20 or trv 27... would anything in the "newer" HC3 "enhance" any of those old tapes.. ( I have hundreds of originals,, and very seldom recorded over the top of the original footage) They always play just fine in the camcorder from which they were recorded.. and usually look OK... Only.....If I played them back on an HC3 would they look sharper ??? better ??? or Worse????? (please don't suggest,,, "try it" cause I currently do NOT own an HC3...but I'm thinking about one ) Can I firewire from the old camera into the 3 , effectively "re-creating the footage as a dub" and get a better image???? or just play the old tape in the new camera??? just wondering......... jmy A3914 D 12122
  16. great point about slowing down, adding lift ( flaps),, before the hard 180... very alike to a braked turn under canopy... When that crash FIRST occured,, I asked anyone with whom I had discussed the accident... " I wonder if he had a wind from the south east,,,which sliiiid. him to the west...??." Not a lot of whuffos and non-pilots understand the concept of skating.... sometimes a good long distance... when turning an aircraft...and perhaps one or both of these guys misjudged it as well..... I also was reminded of the JFK Jr. crash... Relative novice,,, with waaaaay more aircraft in his hands than he is capable of handling.... ........ and yes... wind was a certain component of this accident,,, but certainly NOT the cause...... Wind is a condition !! and MANY conditions must be assessed understood and compensated for..... on a moment to moment basis.... when flying ANYthing.......Failure to do so as a pilot OR co pilot.... and NOW you're talking about a CAUSE... sad.
  17. uh Oh !!!!! I knew him when he was a KID !!!!! .....and if He's an old fart....then what does that make ME ???? best of birthdays bro..........many many more jimmy from rochester
  18. my Javelin J-5 already dismisses me from the "smallgear" side of the table... and I have no problem with that... TINY gear is NOT a high priority for me.... I have a 210 Main and a 225 reserve and I like that combination....JUST FINE.. MY first reserve ride on that particular canopy, ( 225) was after a dislocated right shoulder.... even with a totally "uneven flare".. it put me down just fine.... small is cool for some people and to each his own..... but for me, bigger is better. jmy
  19. yes... at a local elementary school I only then learned,,,, that many of the candidates who have been blasting us with annoying TV ads, and slurs about their opponents, are not even in our voting district. ( or more correctly, I am not in their district ) and so i could not even enjoy specifically NOT voting for them... I had a whole list of people who I was planning to vote AGAINST!!!!!! and they were not even on my ballot... damn... that made voting less fun than I had hoped it would be.... signed jmy,,,, "voting out the incumbents since 1971"
  20. I love Judy Garland, but I think that Liza is great too. ....... speaking of Judy Garland.... If the Wizard of Oz counts as a musical, it would be up there on my list... All those memorable songs,,, and so much fun to sing them in a "munchkin voice"... West Side Story.. the music was very good.. "Maria" , "Officer Krupkee" "When You're a Jet".. ( you can see that I'm dating myself, so i won't even mention Oklahoma !!! "....)
  21. Don't be so sure... The Study of Social Sciences provides one with a fine background towards better understanding of much of what goes on in our lives. I majored in Anthropology while in college (minored in SKYDIVING). and completed a B of Sci. degree a bit over 30 years ago... ( also had 360 jumps, when I graduated college !!!) Although I haven't the patience for archeology nor the abilty to travel the world and fully study Cultural Anthro.... The subject HAS been a great background and foundation for everyday interactions with business and social contacts.. Anthro.. is "the study of man" certainly a wide and varied topic,, but grasping THAT concept alone is a good tool to have as I carry on in my life....

    Uncle Leo

Hellllllllllo!!!!!! ....... well where was THIS thread,,, back a few months ago......when you and I played "who's your Dad" ???hahahahaha i still grin widely when I think back to that exchange Michele.....
  23. ..Good. so it sounds like you would still want to 'skydive'...build formations, fly relative to your friends in freefall with you? That's different than "just flying " Right??? . Now we take a plane to get there. But if we could fly we might simply break-off , turn and track... and then instead of deploying, flatten out, start to climb, re establish eye contact with our pals, and FLY back up to 14 Grand
  24. I've been a carpenter for almost 40 years...working hammers and saws, and can read a tape measure to the 16th of an inch Became self employed 24 years ago... still trying to decide if I LIKE it...
