  1. thanks for the link o[:-) skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends
  2. maybe.... you could check the steering lines while at altitude and the toggles are at the top. the visual on the lines as they run through the keeper ring, and on up to the tail, should be similar.. see if you can tell,,,,If one side has a larger "curve" or "loop" to it, than the other... or if one has some slack and the other is taut.. ...are the rings at the same height ?, as you look side to side at them,,, or is one set slightly above the other?? good luck... .... you have a lovely avatar ....eidted to add..... Any chance that one of the steering lines is twisted within itself,,,, ( never could figure out how they can get that way,,, but often they can have many many twists in them).... if one side is worse than the other, it can effect the 'length' of that line relative to the other steering line... j t
  3. Main spinner,,,, Two video perspectives One from the Jumper involved, one from his buddy above him. the involved jumpers' video showed the cutaway cables after they have cleared the housings, but the main doesn't seperate..... the Upper video shows the main spinning,,, looks like maybe 2/3 of the square footage is 'open'.. i e not a streamer. The jumper said at some point, under a grand, he pulled the reserve and the upper video seems to show the pc launch but, No indication that the reserve cleared the freebag. NO word at all about an AAD NO indication AT ALL by either of the jumper guests,, of WHY the main didn't leave... NONE... ( could it be tuck tabs??) ( speculation on MY part).... No apparent effort is made to tear at the 3 rings, or "help the risers" to let go... spin spin spin,, Matt Lauer made a point of saying,, " you spun 84 times".. sheesh... The interview ends with both men saying, yes, the jumper involved will certainly will jump again. ( he said he has over 7000 jumps...) I was disappointed with the lack of real explanation, as i would guess that gear inspection was conducted. maybe there is more to come. As it stands , the general public is given a 'scare story' of a gear problem, with no real explanation of why.....only the stock statement,,, 'boy was he lucky'... jimmy
  4. Maybe originality trumps the usual "money shot" seems as though the deployment was documented, the viewer knows the main is opening, and then, instead of a backflying view of an inflating tandem, ( what was once money, perhaps is now mundane) instead we ( the viewer ) are treated to a sweet speed indicator, as the videoperson approaches the " the opening altitude ground fog"..... THEN the cameramans canopy opens, to complete that part of the skydive... Going immediately to the student under canopy is nice... we try to do that as well.....BUT if the cameraman burns himself outta the shot, by falling another 4 or 5 seconds,,, ONLy hard spiralling ( or a long snivel on the tandem) and appropriate main canopy compatibility will EVER allow for the close ups of the student during the descent, if at all.... yes tandem master / cameraperson coordination must be top notch,,, in order to be successful
  5. .... then try " Jane and BOY"... ahhhh. a ahhha ah!!! a ahha Ahhh!!!!... or "Jane and Cheetah" or how about "Chixie Dix"...??? though that might be better for a southern 4 way team, (2 guys 2 girls).... or "Ineptitude Squared" or " Two for the Show" or..."Two Grand" or "Hop & Pop"
  6. the short answer..... Yes.... Of course I would LIKE it, if any family member, WHO WANTS to make a jump, actually follows up and completes that quest..... Would i press them to do it??? NO Would I try to sell the idea, or convince them to do it ?? NO !!! Would I steer them to a safe and fun DZ IF they asked??? YES... because then... they might have a better perception of just what it IS that caught MY attention when i first brought the "sport of the space age" to the dinner table list of conversation subjects.....back when i was a teenager... Over 30 years ago, i arrived at a local dz for a routine day of jumping to see that my college aged brother was there,,, and was a part of the First jump Class which was being taught that day... the DZO asked me to JM him on his one and only static line jump . It was out of a deHaviland beaver,,, and he loved it. he now is a private pilot and a 20+ year FAA Air Traffic Controller
  7. point well taken.... please consider this a public retraction of my original "knee-jerk" reaction to this heinous act. i responded with my heart and not my brain.... Of course one tortuous act should NOT beget another one..... But i am a Father, and a Christian, and a sympathetic appreciator ( is THAT a word ? ) of all people, young and old, near and far... I guess I was relying on the old adage, "an eye for an eye",,,, but as I should KNOW, by this point in my life,,,,, all that leads to, is further blindness...... Pity this foolish and irresponsible person, yes..... but I do see the folly of my original negative post, about a slow and painful death.....THAT accomplishes very little,,,, As I NOW realize... vengeance cripples EVERYone involved.. thanks PeterB, for the enlightenment jmy
  8. I try not to be a hateful and vindictive person, as I go through life but this guy here in Philly pushed me... I suggested a lingering death because that is what he dealt out , to that little child... A swift death would mean inadequate suffering and IMHO this p.o.s. needs to suffer.... it will be interesting to see what becomes of this case... but if it was left up to me, I WOULD turn Marcellus Wallace loose on him. jmy
  9. .... how Pathetic and sad......... my feelings of distaste for this man, are the equal to my feelings of sadness for the child....... AND my heart BREAKS to think of that poor kid, during the childs' last hours..... however ...He WILL receive his Just "reward" ...i will say that here is further evidence that many many people who create children, or who are charged with their care, are grossly incapable of such responsibilities.... no justification, no explanation, no excuse, no amount of remorse can be accepted...from this perpetrator... take a life in such a stupid and callous way, and you must forfeit yours,,,,,, end of story... .... I'll leave it to others to determine HOW that should happen,, as for one gun one bullet I say maybe one gun, a shot gun,, but MANY shells,, and Like Marcellus Wallace said, "get medieval on his ass"..... lingering pain followed by death is required here... jmy
  10. todays diagnostic tests, CT scans, MRI, etc, do an amazing job of telling us about what's "going on inside us"... Based on what I hear recently regarding family members, who are ladies,,, and overactive thyroid, is not that unusual... I think there are medications to help. My Mom only just went through such a test. though she has to be waaaay older than you, Dev...
  11. .......as many of us spend these days snowbound, cold, watching winter time winds stir up "snow-Devils"... how cool it IS to be able to check in here,,, and find interesting, informative, well documented interviews, with so many Upper level skydiving people. The gear, techniques, and personalties shown, have allowed all jumpers to share in the PIA event...Excellent idea. and Well executed. Great work DSE,,,,,, Nice example of 'flying in beauty',,, in fact.
  12. how do you feed it through the housing???? .... Is there still a pin at the end???? just wondering jmy
  13. I was 19 this sept. will be 35 years of excitement, fun,, laughs, and friends.. There have been some tears some travel some great times, some weather days,,,,,,but mostly , many many wonderful memories... i'm hoping for 35 years, more.....
  14. there you Go..... M. as the father of a college graduate and another soon to complete... I learned just how hardworking and dedicated and sensitive to grades, each of the kids, are/were... THAT alone,,, seeing how much THEY want to succeed, brings pride to a parent like you can well imagine..... Grades??..... well grades matter to some extent, and to some people,,, but if the battle is fought, and fought with spirit, effort and the right amount of intensity..... THAT is the benefit of higher education,,,, not some arbitrary score, meted out by sometimes Unrealistic , inconsisant faculty members.... ... You got an........... A in Anatomy, would maybe get a ...............B in Biology, so if you get, even a ..............C in Chemistry, that seems about right..... Only Pleeeaaaasssee.. don't take any classes in FRENCH!!!!!!!! jimmy
  15. thank goodness that i realized "studying tooo much" could be trouble,,, and so I cut it out ...35 YEARs ago !!! I'm a lot dumber than I might have been because of it...,,,, but no headaches,, and i can see just fine,,, i don't LOOK so good, but i can see ok.......
  16. First two pics were from Last SPRING!!!!! after the worst of winter was OVER...
  17. Yup we'll be making homemade Pizza also!!! Only I buy the dough ( rather than make it from scratch) at a local Authentic Italian- American Grocery Store... " Rubinos".... They have great dough and pizza sauce, pre-seasoned,,,, ( the key is to let the dough RISE for a few hours, before working it...) Then I can also get, 3 or 4 different cheeses, and fixings like Olives, green and black, mushrooms,,, peppers, sweet and hot, pepperoni, sliced nice and thin, and anchovies for the adventurous among us...while I'm at the store.... I'm figuring for 5 or six cookie sheets,,,, with a "make it yourself" approach,,, so each fan can have the style of pizza, of their choice.... kind of a "do it yourself " pizzaria !!!!! " Ittsa Peet- Zaa de minute, you poota you hand , inna to-a the Dough!!!!! " (poppie).... and a beer for those who choose only I like ice cold diet Pepsi, with My slice... Oh,,, and also a nice large bowl of salad, to share, and of course a pot of homemade Chili will be simmering on the stove..... chef Boy- Ar- Jmy
  18. does the car start??? does the car run???? transmission ok???? When you shift it... does it engage?? when you step on the brakes,,, will it stop????? If your answers are all YES... then i'd keep driving it.... albeit, carefully.... don't go doing any " Ninety Left"... or "hard right".... or go squealing around corners.....of course... sure, brake pads wear out....and usually announce the need for replacement by "chirping"... be careful about being sold rotors that you don't need.. and don't OVERpay if they simply re-machine the existing ones... torque bar, front end issues, suspensions, tires,,, are all a judgement call... The mechanic is thinking about HIS bills, and he might need your work to help pay 'em... recomendations for service can vary according to mechanic....and whether his shop is running at capacity or NOT... save the 1,600... use what part of it you MUST.... for some things..... But if the registration and inspection stickers are still current....and if you NEED to get to a dropzone.... you might be ok to simply,,,, "keep On Truckin' !!!... you might get another 6 months or even a year out of it...... good luck. jmy
  19. we have a local chain of hamburger restaurants, which uses an electronic tool, about three 3 inches in diameter, which buzzes and lights up when a persons order is ready for pickup.......You wait in line, place your order and pay for it... and they give you this little "notifier",,, around which your ENTIRE WORLD revolves,,,, for the next 10 minutes.... it has a dozen or more L E D lights on it and some type of built in buzzer......It sounds,,, lights up, and like a proper android,, the person JUMPS right up and heads for the "pick-up counter"... hahahaha like a cell phone that goes off in a crowd.. when ANY of these things light up.... EVERYone in a 20 foot radius, checks their device,,,, like some sort of Pavlovian Dog... hahahaha it sure is NOT a bomb....... but the same cannot be said about their "monster-burger w/ fries"... jmy

    My turn

"Cheer me Up" .... so this lady rushes into her home and calls out loudly as she enters....... "pack the bags,,,, I won the lottery!!!!!" a mans' voice replies,,,,," GREAT!!,,,,should i pack for the mountains??? or pack for the beach????" she says,,,, "I don't care...... just GET OUT!!!!!" jimmy
  21. close,,, it was wooden AIRPLANES.... .....D A V I N C I ........ .....T A V I N O.......... as i was growing up.... i was always told that my ancestry includes some " different thinking" forefathers..... and we all share(d) a love for the sky...
  22. Was that one of the ones where you have to punch the reserve to get it to open? No cutaways yet, hopefully it will stay that way for a while anyways. well when i was doing static line jumps I was first trained to "Pull and Punch", since the reserve had NO spring loaded pilot chute in it... But by the time I had this cutaway, I had "updated" my gear to include a reserve pilot chute, spring loaded and set onto a "kicker plate", which helped to insure a good launch, and make certain that the base of the P C did NOT dig down into the fabric of the canopy material , and thereby get stuck.... The reserve PC "rocketed" outta the chest mounted container, and drew that round cleanly away from me,,, it opened clean and fast...
