  1. hmmm seems strange that the dz's smallest student main is 230 sq. feet... most places anticipate smaller sized students, and they should at least have a harness/container system suited to the more petite sized jumper...(and you've used such gear 35 !!! times!!!!) well good for you... you are a trouper!! man.. the entire rig likely weighs over one quarter of your own body weight... any chance that one of your instructors might have a smaller sized rig, that you could borrow, rent, lease??/ it needs an AAd...of course, and not too small of a main and reserve..... but in this day and age, you shouldn't be using a rig which, "falls off your shoulders" in the plane.... good luck. jmy a 3914 d 12122
  2. hahaha maybe so.. guess i was absent that day in social studies class.... a democracy is like a kingship??? Doesn't the house of representatives and the senate gather the public opinion from the local levels and filter it on up to the executive branch.....? parlimentary ? democracy? i think I want whatever functions in the best interest of the ciitizens, from whose efforts (taxes) the whole system is supported........Militarily, financially, spiritually, and physically..... if the systems at play in the world today are Not working..... time to consider something else....... problem is......... what else??? any ideas??? jmy
  3. A real leader should take the concensus view of the people he leads, and represent that view. This president acts as though he had been given, "the keys to the country"... and so it is his job to 'do whatever HE wants'...... he was given no such privilege.. our system does not work that way... he and ALL elected officials, are bound to serve at the will of the constituents... only an arrogant imbecile whould jump to the conclusion,,,,,, that "it's all up to me"... I guess he means well,,,, but should recognize that more people did NOt vote for him,,, than did.... and THAT was just among the numbers of those who WENT to the polls.... factor in all the other apathic "citizens" who voiced their displeasure about All candidates by not even visiting a polling place,,, and his presumed "grass roots support",,,, is just another figment of his own imagination... A leader should listen to the populace,,,winnow out the basics of how THEY are feeling, and then represent that populace position, whether that said leader is in favor of the position or Not.... THAT is a democracy, isn't it???? Seems to me that the only difference between george and this guy Hussien,,, is that hussien killed the enemies in his own country and Bush is killing ( or maybe creating) enemies in some foreign land....... What good is a self proclaimed 'decision maker',,,, when most of the decisions are BAD ones????? jmy
  4. perfect example of a reply made, without first reading the previous replies... sure sure a little fun seems ok,,,since we are all past that "first jump jitters" stage..... But People going out the door, on their # ONE skydive do not need an "uh Oh". or a comment about the gear...... just prior to exit...... or else, EVER, for that matter. Do we all agree on that??? Yes gonzelesna,,,,,something memorable and/or playful should be done.....maybe a bottle of champagne at least.... Theres something about a champagne cork or two.. popping Off,,,,, that just screams " CELEBRATE" !!!.....it could be a nice way toast everyones safe 'return to earth'. For sure document the day with photos,,, but do it in a way,, that your friends don't even realize the pictures are happening.... Pics, when they arrive, pics signing waivers, getting trained, etc etc.... ( lots of tandem videos only catch the student from the time of gear Up ) ( or sometimes from the point of arrival at the plane if the video people are busy....). make arrangements with a person who could lurk the group and get the shots, or else do it yourself for them.. also take a few posed shots, maybe a group shot or two with the plane(s) in the background.... ...Pack a picnic lunch,. for sure bring a b'day cake,,,,
  5. ...well that is just fantastic..... all on here were absolutely bummed out/pissed off... ... when this thievery first became known..... and as is often the case,,, that loss goes unsolved... How COOL... to hear of this recovery.. As a guy whose gear is worth twice the value of his vehicle(s)... I dunno what i would do, if it got stolen...... This recovery comes one month AFTER christmas and so it is a january present from santa ... .... a santa who wears Police officer. blue. or grey or tan or whatever they wear in that part of the country... i have heard of tandem students stealing an altimeter, or frap hat as a damn "souvenir' of a skydive , or if they felt they 'didn't get their money's worth' but to slink into a place under the cover of darkness and raid it of valuable equipment, and tear the very heart and soul out of the gears' owners...... is despicable..... these low lifes,,,,, ( and you'll get no sympathy from Me , even if they ARE Meth addicts)....might best wake up in a jailcell and then get 'awarded' a good amount of prison time.... Hopefully they can then , clean up and restore their lives..... jmy
  6. earlier today i sent this note to a friend who encouraged me to share it here......... ......I was only at Quincy 2 times and didn't have a camcorder the first time ( '94 ). The next time, ( i think it was '98) I got a video of this guy with a big smile on his face riding by on a bicycle Chiseled features, twinkling eyes, Long hair , white beard, WEARING his jumpsuit, and muttering to no one in particular, " muff muff muff muff muff muff " as he rode rode outta the frame....
  7. Depending on what highways I might drive to get there... it's between 325 and 355 miles....one way... I've made that drive a couple of hundred times now, in 35 years..since my folks still live there. jmy
  8. Well the "town" i live in now, (and for the past 35 years) Rochester N Y is famous for KODAK..... but my true 'hometown' of Brewster NY is famous for 2 things.... 1. That's where jimmytavino and lots of other Tavinos came from ..
  9. Notice in the picture of the sword transaction, what appears to be a cell phone, in the hand of the man to the right... in keeping with the AN-2 theme, attached is a photo of that very type Aircraft, which ties down at Finger Lakes Skydivers' Airport in Central New York USA jmy.......... o[:-)
  10. hey Bert!!! cool picture.....Africa huh???? interesting buildings, landscape, terrain. was there a windstorm? Did you take the picture? where was the photographer standing? Is that a runway?? i noted the tail Numbers.. Are the other aircraft with Numbers between these two, also nearby?? what kinda place is that?? why are there soldiers there? and WHAT the heck are YOU doing there???? regardless,,,, it's cool to me, that you made sure to bring your Parachute with you !!! bravo !!
  11. sure.....i see not certain of todays rates a few times, in the past,,, NY to Fla...ground, insured seemed to run me 60 or 70 bucks... east coast to west coast could hit 100... not sure.. But it is likely that your rig is smaller than mine...... since mine is "not small"... and if you carry your main with you, and just ship the reserve and containter, on ahead, it could be cost effective..... Now,as far as "in case I don't go " is concerned... ......Forget "In case I don't go".. !!! Instead..... Now you can INSIST that your company send you out there!!!!!! and have 'em fly you First Class, while they're at it !!!!.. hahahahaha ...works for me... good luck jmy a3914 d12122
  12. ...not to take the work away from anyone local to you... but why not consider shipping the rig out west, to the dz you plan to visit... ( certainly call ahead and set it up...) and have one of their riggers do the packjob for you... Then 1. it's there and waiting for you... 2. you're sure to be in date. 3. if you have time, it isn't that costly.. ( if you have the $$$$, and NOT the time then send it 'next day', or '2nd day') 4. you won't have to drag it along with you through the airport.... 5. it will give you a SOLID excuse to leave your work responsibilities, at least for ONE day, to "go and get it"... 6. It might assure that you get at least a few jumps..
  13. __________________________________________________ ... Maybe that's because almost EVERY DZ in the country won't LET people with 100 jumps fly a camera..... ( with the exception being, those places where the DZOs have pissed off the real TMs and Video people, who have then LEFT,,,, and now the DZO could care less about YOUR safety and so he takes advantage of your 'enthusiasm' and since he is now DESPERATE for a cameraman to do His "precious" tandems,, he says, "sure, you can go"....Bad idea...... ...because while the 'vidiot in his own mind" is SURE that he is ready for anything..... most DZ's DZOs, and S & T A's know BETTER....( and so do most seasoned camera flyers, HERE and elsewhere)... A person who "may have some freefall skills", and who has plenty of "confidence", and is "just bringing the camera along for a ride"... is a person with the wrong attitude.... Cameras DO change things, they can distract you, they can entice you into bad decisions in the air , at pull time, and under canopy, and can expose your head, neck and shoulders to injury.... and that's BEFORE even talking about snag hazards... ..... *** A camera changes nothing about your dive, if you're not trying to film a group or get a perfect shot. It affects your chance of a malfunction and a line getting caught...that's all. *** .. Listen friend,,,,, if you really believe that a camera "changes nothing",, you are simply demonstrating the very ignorance which people here are trying to warn you about...,,, AND if you are not trying to film a group, (or an individual, or get a perfect shot)..... then why wear the damn thing in the first place.....??? an attitude of " I'll get whatever the camera gets",, is useless and an insult to REAL videographers,,, who strive for safety, professional attitudes, AND getting the perfect shot... If you are not up for what it takes, ( including experience level and willingness to listen) to accomplish that,,, then you lower the proverbial bar, for everyone.....And as a dedicated and rules following 'aerial videographer' I would take exception to that. ***Agreed on that. There is a difference in filming people, and taking a camera along for the ride. I will not be trying to get "the money shot", just trying to fly relative to people, nothing more for now.*** ...If you have to "try " to fly relative to people then that's a problem right there... The "group" would be better off to give YOUR slot to someone who would be IN the dive,,, and not off to the side,, "trying"... Then at separation there you are ,,, IN THE WAY.... ....not trying to burst your bubble Kynan1 ,, just trying to give you some perspective on what YOU seem to think is no big deal... I do NOT trust your judgement, pal,,,not only based on what your profile tells us, but also based on your Choice of the camcorder ( Pana-WHAT??) , that you plan to attach to any old helmet, with a screw and Saran wrap....!!!!! .... keep skydiving,,,,, improve your freefall skills, and learn to listen to those who have been jumping,,,,since before the time, that you were likely wearing short pants... jmy A 3914 D 12122
  14. lots of great animation/humor in those old cartoons...
  15. while you're shopping for the space heater,,,, (and be sure it has auto shut off,,,anti tipping disconnect, and a reliable thermostat) why not consider getting a good electric blanket for the bed, with adjustable controls... Turn it on a half hr. before you retire for the eve..and it will be nice and toasty for you...
  16. yes... not sure about all states..... but I believe "a lease survives the sale"
  17. there was a 20 second spot of this on the NBC Today show this morning.... the clip showed the words Perris Ca. at the bottom and it 'looked' like they used 2 cranes,,,, side by side with some type of elastic/bungee cables running from the cranes DOWN to the ground and under tension..... The apparatus launched,,, tossed the 'passenger' UP , well past the tops of the crane, and at what appears to be the apex of the launch,,, a pilot chute could be seen, followed by a fast opening main... Not much time spent under canopy, but the landing looked good and the jumper certainly was "energized"... upon touching down.... pretty cool....to watch........ jmy
  18. it seems to be common that when a person "starts a business" the first thing they do,,, is take out a Loan!!! then they are behind the 8 ball, from the get go... Does this business have any income generating potential at PRESENT.???? If so,,,, start building slowly, do whatever it takes to increase receivables... Spend judiciously... Draw as SMALL a paycheck as you can... Leave the rest to form your OWN pool of Capital....for growth and expansion.... many feel that they will jump right to a 6 figure income, as soon as they "own their own business"...and that there are all sorts of "tax advantages". hahaha.. By the time you PAY your taxes, insurances, fees and certifications,,you'll be doing well if you are keeping your chin above water.... you need to be patiently aggressive the first few years....and YOU need to do as much of the work as possible, yourself. Of course each business is different than the next , but it seems to me that running out and becoming "indebted" is a tough way to start... Good Luck... work hard, be honest, stay consistant, develop a good client base, or customer base, depending on the nature of the work , and surround yourself with a good and accessible accountant, attorney if needed and co workers, as your plan grows and develops... .......ten cuidado.............
  19. that's just Great !! I like the shows which David E Kelly produces. glad to hear the news..can you tell us any more about the show??,,, it's subject matter, other co-stars??? Now you can be bragging about him,,,, while He brags about YOU !!
  20. misc. main could have included the 28 foot Jumbo PC and i remember the 23foot and maybe 27 foot Russian PC......surprised to only see mention of ONE papillon.... The American papillon and the french Pap. were still pretty popular for accuracy in the mid to late 70's... IIRC... cool list....I recall all that gear...even jumped some of it...
  21. I like it for about the first 3 minutes... then it tends to overwhelm..... certain aromas are better tolerated than others j t
  22. Had some merlot with dinner last evening....mmm mmm good still, thanks for the invite.. wow. 4.0. is excellent.......good job NOW about your Avatar.... I have to give THAT a 9.95 !!!!! carry on. jmy
  23. front man.... probably Roth. but the real credit should go to Alex and Eddie who grew that band from a high school hobby into such well known rockers.....Mostly Alex...
  24. a long time. Although that first jump is still VIVID in my mind.....as are MANY many skydives... started just after I turned 19.... Sept. '72 first jump ( Static Line), first airplane ride,, same day. i'm up to 35 years in the sport..... so it's more than 60 percent of ALL the time i've been alive... never went more than a few months without making a jump.( usually wintertime) slowed down when the kids were little, but always stayed current... no layoffs... have met and jumped with thousands of interesting people, many have come and gone,,, looking forward to meeting more people and making new friends... It's been a good thing to have been with the sport, since the days of paraboots, Bell motorcycle helmets, 4 pin containers, cheapo mains, and 24' flat reserves... I got to see, hear, watch and take part in, many many changes, from gear to aircraft to curriculum to technique... I learned it's better to work with my eyes and my ears and less with my mouth... ( old skydivers/ bold skydivers) I'm happy to be along for the ride.
