  1. it could be from long ago procedures... but i follow the ... "videoperson takes the center" approach to things.... As mentioned by peej, I also set my audible a bit high. I very seldom video RIGHT over the top,,,, except during 4 way or 8 way "working time" then I get offf to the side, as we get down to seperation altitude.... When the jumpers, turn and track,,, I press, Up and In, and slide to where the center of the dive just WAS.... No One can get over your back... If you stay ABOVE them.... and while looking down I can tell if there are any "quick draw artists" IN the dive who are gonna turn, NOT track, and would be likely to throw their P C at me... .... My move to the center is consistant with everyone else's departure from the center... once the area is clear, I deploy.

  8. " I might have to take it apart, just for the heck of it "...... don't do it for THAT.... take it apart so you can FIX it....what do you have to lose??? worse thing,,,, you don't like what you see and you put it back together... best thing,,,,you find the problem and fix it. c'mon.. c'mon.. you can do it... head to radio shack and get a set of small screwdrivers..... or... you can give up on this camera,,, ( you did say you got your moneys' worth out of it.....) and the next time you're at the DZ,,, toss it outta the plane with a pilot chute and bridle..... If it stays 'stable' and you set it up with the lens facing down and the record mode works..... you could get one helluva video of true ground rush........be sure of what's below you... check with dzo, staff, etc. to assure safety, spot for it's landing, and don't go much above 5 grand... could be fun...... it would certainly be the last gasp for that camera....... but what a way to go..... jmy disclaimer... don't mind me,, I'm in a silly/stupid mood today...
  9. wow...... very very nice.... yes... cost can add up fast when you do things RIGHT... that crown moulding is super... what a nice finishing touch. The backsplashes and countertop look great.....well done.... jmy

    Rating tests

conscience some people are bound by adherance to it some people don't know what it is... pity those who take short-cuts, since they only hurt themselves any rating which isn't earned is hollow. and earning something,,, anything, requires time effort, work and mostly Understanding of the subject matter,,, skating through any testing process demeans the skater, and shows a lack of consideration for the other candidates..... Congratulations on your own accomplishment. those who get ratings just to say they HAVE ratings,,,, do little to impress Me.... rather, those who get ratings in order to share their knowledge, work with new comers, hone their own instructing abilities, and help grow this sport, are the real heroes..... he may have been 'clever ' to bend the open book rule. but we don't need any 'clever' ratings holders.... save that stuff for the boardroom, or some other cut-throat business. Peace of mind in any accomplishment, enhances the experience.......If this candidate struggled through the oral questions and answers,,,then he KNOWS his own limitations.... and you and the other candidates know them too........ iligitimi non carborundum.... 11. ...hmmm does the 1000 have a jack for an external mike.?? have you tried to see if THAT connection is good??? either way,,,, you might have to get yourself a very tiny phillips screwdriver.....and build up some courage, and consider fixing it yourself ...
  12. ......." A hundred and fifty miles North East of Dutch Harbor, Sig Hansen and the crew of the Northwestern have been setting pots, deep into the night... The Bering Sea has been charactaristically, Un merciful..... as the hunt for Opelio Crab continues....." Mike Rowe. I remember Skymamas' thread about Mike Rowe and D. jobs..... he's a " jump right in" kind of guy... that's for sure... hahahahah.. cool show... excellent editing, and camera work... as to be expected by Discovery... Yes.. is blake the dude who got passed over for captain ( as previously promised ) by Rick Quashnick, last year ?? .. man he was pissed... now Blake IS running the boat and "fillin' the holds"..... But he has been ticking off some of the other Captains..... Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie gave Blake some secret fishing spots, and said tell No one.... well Blake bragged or something, and Now Phil is mad... I saw some episodes which included sabotaging each others gear and pots,,,,, all in good "fun" I Like Sig and his brother..Edgar. hahahah I saw Edgar bite the head off a herring,,, for good Luck!!!. The boats all have cool names... looks like tough work. 16 18 20 hours at a stretch....Not sure if i could take all the wave action and the boat rocking back and forth all the time.... and when i sleep... I like it to be for more than 2 hours.....I'd say the deck hands EARN their money,,, every bit of it... 13. it's wise to be careful with some of those cannister insulation spray products.... The do expand and fillllll ( think hansen helmet)... but sometimes they can keep expanding.... between 2 solid pieces of timber or a wooden frame and the rough opening they work OK,, if you don't OVER load the cavity.. but between a rigid window rough opening,, and the VINYL extruded frame of the new windows,,,, that sort of foam can expand enough to literally distort the side frames and top frame..... This could cause your windows to be tooo tight,, and bind, when you're trying to open them.. The Vinyl side jambs WILL flex inward, if the foam keeps "growing". Hopefully the measurements will be real close, and the vinyl will fit the remaining opening after the old windows are out. Then, a decent sealant such as acrylic latex caulk, available in many colors, can be used to seal out drafts... You could use whatever colors match,,,, inside and out... I also believe those installations call for a least one bead of glue-sealer in the center of the sides and top. Often an adjustable finishing trim, takes care of any small size discrepancy, as well as the angle of the existing sill... Just go easy on any "expanding" sealant- insulator.... jmy
  14. real Nice..... that really dresses off the upper part of the cabinets... looks good... jmy
  15. i was wondering just yesterday... how your remodel was going...i recall when you posted about tearing up the old floor... . looks great... nice cabinets beautiful floor... heat run in the toekick....lazy susan.... I installed pre made cabinets for a few years, in the mid '70's...and then the counters..usually formica, back then.. but we did get into Corian from time to time and were just starting to see stone... I worked on alot of NEW home construction, AND some remodeling... Keep 'em level, keep 'em square, be SURE where your studs are,, and pre-drill all your drive screw locations, especially between cabinet stiles... and the results are just as your pictures show....
  16. static line was the ONLY option, when i started, and I made the bare minimum, ( 5 ) before I started pulling ripcords, myself..... When tandem came along,, I liked the idea... I saw safe, capable local instructors who stepped UP and became the Charter member tandem masters of our area.. they were all trusted friends and good skydivers and had my respect... BUT..... not for taking ME on a jump... hahahaha. no thanks...Never had any interest in the idea....Tandems are for students,,, or for dear family members and friends of mine, who want to know the fun of skydiving...>>>>>> he lossened the side clips..... I think I dropped about 1 inch,, but it fell like 1000 feet ,, as the upper connections caught me.....!!! . I yelled out,,, " HEY " !!! and He laughed.... that was the only time in the whole jump that i didn't like.... Under canopy we laughed,, decided we'd try an 'accuracy shot',,, and determined that our spot was right on.... I left it all up to him,,,, though we did have a chat about Just when,,,, to turn on final... Well he stood us Up in the middle of the gravel... a meter from the disc.... It was great... it took a long time coming... but the timing and the spontaneity was perfect.... Who wants to think about such a thing?? all day long,,,,? If the chance comes Up,, give it a try.. disclaimer... Be SURE you are fully comfortable with the TM in question, and do a thorough pre dive briefing..... edited to add jpeg jmy
  17. the 're -learn' back to legstrap is easy... I opened my Main that way for 15 years or more...and it's the same hand...
  18. Yup...he does, on a brand new Racer! Fine example of " if it isn't broken, don't 'fix' it. I like the way Mr Rich thinks..... Never had a problem with pins and cones, or MA 1s. or cable and housing ripcords...many jumps on a Stylemaster Rig, Nice easy to sling reserve clips, many on a " Mini- System" as well
  19. NOW I really AM scared..hahahah. but i'd give it a shot,,, IF it came with a "jerry bird" flat pack velcro peel reserve, on the front... sorry Not to make a poll out of it tbrown.... but NOT jumping isn't an option, and a student type "split pouch" which i could pull right OR left,,,, doesn't cut it for me either and paying for a reserve repack after EVERY jump,,, is just plain silly...especially since 5 dollar reserve repacks are a distant memory!!! j t
  20. well I did think about left hand B O C but then passed on the idea.... I have been deploying right handed for decades, and muscle memory being what it is,,, I think i'd be too instinctive with right hand and main ripcord.....Plus.... Don't I need my left hand to wave Off??? ZZMar.... good point about the hip rings,,,BUT my Javelin was built just prior to the rings,,,,one of the reasons for me to consider back to the legstrap...... Sure thing bustin' through 2 grand.... and no hackey in hand......been there,,, it stinks.... it's amazing how fast my brain flashed,,, " cypress"..... and then, "beat that cuttter to the punch",, which I did........by pulling silver left handed.... I was pleased to be under my reserve by 1,300 ft. but humbled, as well... I think I want to stay right handed and so the obvious and simple left hand BOC may be too much of a change for me,, "old Dog, new tricks" sorta thing.... Plus R O L always worked fine for me in the past... NOW "belly band" pouch,,,,, don't even get me going!!!!!!... Can you say ? " twisted B band" " P C in tow " !>>>>>> yikes... YES YES it IS very possible to twist a legstrap as well,,,,, but THAT is a gear check issue with which I am already familiar, and so I expect it NOT to be a problem... Plus, I nearly always pack for myself, and so routing the bridle really shouldn't be a concern....as it might be with a packer who is not used to R O L .... If it gets to the point of asking a friend to open my main for me,,,, then sadly I have reached the point in time where safety dictates that I stay on the ground....... Which i do NOT want to do..... gotta go now,,,, time for Phys. Therapy, pulleys, stretches and isometrics... thanks for the ideas...
  21. so whaddaya all think???? if I ask my rigger to modify my Javelin J-5 to change it from a B O C to a legstrap pouch????
  22. ......something about low air pressure at altitude, which can mess up the "direct to disc" recording..... it seems tapes work best, mini DV especially. High Def. is now available in mini dv format... Sony HDR-HC-3 HC-5 and HC-7.....though the 7 has been reported as being susceptible to flutter and shakes, in certain freefall body positions,,, check the post threads here....
  23. sure thing M... we are waaaay more than just "in your corner" hell i have 2 grand riding on your upcoming victory,,,,, what good is a heavyweight bout without laying down a bet or two..??? and i always BET on the Winners.....!!!!! do us all proud..... have a good weekend. jmy
