  1. i was refering to autoset's image " 176 " in the original post... see how the pin is shown in the middle of the bridle...? ( i know it's a rough diagram and not to scale).. my point is about the added benefit achieved when the bridle is pulled tight...just as the pin gets pulled. jmy
  2. cute drawings nice labeling the location of the pin is waaay off, however... not sure of exact length, but most bridles are 7 to ten feet, i would guess...and the pin is never at or near the middle of the bridle, It is near the end which connects to the main d bag.....You notice that when you pack your parachute.... Right???? to my way of thinking, this has always meant that once that P. C. gets away.... It "plants itself" in the air,,,, we continue falling at near terminal and quite quickly get below the PC by the length of that bridle, and POP the pin gets extracted from the closing loop... The snatch force applied to the pin by the inflated PC is much greater at bridle length, than it is when the PC first leaves our hand... That Yank,,, should ensure a positive pin extraction... much greater I would guess than most peoples' arm strength... Let the PC pull the pin, at 'bridle stretch' and be sure to correctly cock it if it is a 'kill line' PC. jmy
  3. exactly....I don't know for sure if the O. P. realizes just what that shirt is supposed to be saying... Might be a good shirt to wear when you're around all the current, "i know what I'm doing" and "it ain't gonna happen to me " crowd...... ( which sadly seems to be growing each year...), since I interpret that shirt as being a omen of sorts.. i.e. "Can I be on your (soon to occur, if you DON'T change your ways ) Ash Dive,,,? " If you are attending a true ash dive,,,, just go out and find a t shirt with a tuxedo front on the front and a tuxedo back on the back... or a white shirt and tie.... a bit more classy.....and more respectful of the situation, and of the survivors...... jmy
  4. no doubt the camera is a fine one... the HC series, is good and the 96 is an upper end model in that series, And for sure helmet manufactuers now have the design ability manufacturing willingness and the justifying market for it. So no doubt, a side mount is doable... Just wondering about riser strikes , snags, or lopsided 'g forces' at deployment time...since that camera IS wide... Older style side mounts may have been more likley to have such issues, and certainly one piece molded boxes, leaving no 'corners or edges' will minimize concerns about suspension lines and/or risers hanging up on the camera bracket/box..(won't stop it from happening, but the results shouldn't be TOO damaging...) State of the art gear is keeping pace with current needs as well as safety concerns...and that's important... I have had good success with top mounts only,,, and never made a jump, with a side mounted camera and helmet. attached are some old photos... Now it's a sony trv27 side by side with a Nikon D70s. the front mount sony still, is handy for quick snapshots....
  5. depending on ones "frequency of cutaways" a jumper can be caught by surprise as the 3 rings release......( one of the few times in this sport, that I have really felt that 'pit of your stomach' sense that, "HEY...I'm falling "!!!) From anything other than a high speed malfunction, the Initial drop back into freefall does Have a trap door effect... and the Uh Uh UH momentary reaction to that,,, CAN break a jumpers' concentration... Coupled with a roll in the wrong direction, or coupled with any amount of centrifical "throw'.... and our emergency proceedures can become interupted to the point of wasting altitude.... Pull the release pillow.... PULL that reserve handle.... without delay... As mentioned, part of the 3 ring move, should include prepping our bodies for proper presentation to the relative wind, and then launching that Res. Pilot chute... UP.....by proper activation of the ripcord handle...We should expect that we can move our bodies into a belly to earth position, simultaneously........ If in a Higher speed situation where the AAD has not "gone to sleep"... a prime incentive for a "Now" .. pull, would be preventing the cutter from firing at ALL..... " beating the AAD to the punch " so to speak...We can pull a reserve handle ourselves , yet still have the AAD fire, and cut the closing loop...right.??....I never argue with having to have my reserve repacked ( it sure beats the alternative), but it's best not to have to buy a new cutter.
  6. " And are You the kind of a man who can Grant that Wish ". ???.... (spoken to Ray Kinsella by 'Doc (moonlight) Graham' aka the Fabulous Burt Lancaster, in Field of Dreams... my one wish would be that ANY good thing, happy occasion or other Pleasantry,,, I might happen to desire will come to be, for me AND for the ones who i Love, and the ones who are important to me..........that's all. one wish.....umlimited potential...
  7. "would someone ask Donald Trump, if I can have just , "one more chance"????
  8. happened here in Rochester N.Y. .... where usually....... not much happens..... But this young man has become an overnight sensation and a true local and national celebrity... (the triple A baseball team here had a "Jason McElwain Bobble Head Figure" night this past season and filled the place..) Jason has been interviewed a number of times, has met many dignitaries, and i believe he won an ESPN "espy" award... I recall seeing footage of him .... shaking M. Jordans hand that night...
  9. i often ask 'stupid questions' myself... so i was drawn to your post... Sure,,, nothing wrong with intitiating your pull sequence, each time by getting your arms going... It's a good warm up for when you throw your pilot chute handle....( weak or wimpy throws can be problematic) As you correctly note.. when in the air with others... an important visual cue, that a deployment is about to occur,, IS the wave.... In addition,,, even if you are by yourself in the air,,, ALWAYS do a good visual scan above , around, and even below yourself, when coming out of your track and preparing to start that wave-off....
  10. ...NOT there there was anything wrong with the original post....and idiot is a judgement call,,,, but i guess to each his own...How nice that there is variety in our world...and in how we look at things... I did laugh at the O P and enjoyed it in the spirt in which it was sent... Remember,,, a new age, old fashioned, athletic, 40-ish, adventurous, beautiful, outgoing, professional. emotionally secure, and free spirited woman , should not be TOOOO sensitive about such silliness...... carry on......... jimmy a 3914 d 12122
  11. How cool is THAT !!!??? "hard work, rich rewards"
  12. Hey Andy9o8 I'm about 95% sure that it IS dick Ski. cause I recall when that business card came out... I was 100 % sure it was him.. now as to the '72 picture, that was from Akron NY and the guys standing are... from left to right Lester Kuhn, Tom Plonka, Paul Pogorzelski ( sp), John Courteau, John Benoit, Bob Beck Bill McDougal, Dick Ski.....Not sure of ANYone in the front row though, sorry,, they were a year or two 'before my time' It seems that Ski is striking the same pose in that picture ,,, as he is, in the picture of the Seneca Falls beaver...

  14. "experienced this"..... yes to getting the w. teeth out. no to the socket problem.. You MUST rinse the back of your mouth with salted water,,,, 3 or 4 times a day....!!! Did your dentist NOT tell you that??? Put a teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm (not hot ) water... Take a good sized mouthful... swish it around in your mouth so that it bathes those sockets, behind your molars... Do NOT swallow it... spit it out into the sink... continue until the glass is empty...do it a few times a day... This will ease the pain,,,, help to prevent a hard scab from forming, help wash away clotted blood and basically keep that site open and moist so it can heal safely.. Pills do little to address the 'wound', and only treat the symptoms... My son had 4 wisdom teeth extracted the same day...a few months ago. It IS tough the first few days. but you must follow these guidelines. good luck. jimmy
  15. ...."Where have You been.. these past Hundred years or so " ? ( too much violence, hatred, mistrust and poor behavior, on the part of waaay to many people on this earth..) Now .. if I could make one statement to God, instead of ask one question.... That would be. Thank you for the chance to be Alive and for giving us the guidelines to live that life in a worthy fashion... and Thank You for giving us Skydiving and the people with whom we share it. jmy a3914 d12122
  16. Sorry Light,,,,, the statute of limitations ran out a couple of years ago... ....I think..... UH OH !!!!!! gotta go !!!! someone is pounding on the door!!!! ... yelling something about an arrest warrant!! Yikes.. i guess the " stat. of Lim"... hasn't run out!!!!!....... true enough for all the irritation and agony brought on by the In-Laws... I must say there is also a lot of laughing, fun, and joy... the good WITH the bad.... ho ho ho jimmy a3914 d12122
  17. I had to commit grand larceny of a motor vehicle years ago, because of my "dear" sister-in-law. We ( the whole Fam Damily ) were in the Adirondack mountains,, on vacation... Sis "knew where all the black Bears congregated" at sundown,,, so SHE would drive Our minivan with about 10 people packed inside, to go see them..
  18. hahahahaha people have been bustin' me for years,,, since I often used "danger Zone" on tandem videos that i made..!!! hell.. I only used maybe 45 or 60 seconds of it and then at least... changed to something else!!!!! ( NO.... NOT Pettys' freefallin' ) so now here on national TV,,,,, freakin' Danger Zone for the WHOLE video... hahahahaha nonetheless.. nice footage and the multiple camera people is a good technique.. surprised that there were NO hand-cam shots....
