I read this thread, cause like klafollette, I also have shoulder/reach issues... Interesting subject, and appropriate in an effort to be freefly friendly and Safe.... especially with glove season ( cold weather ) approaching in some places so your post caught my attention, please see below _________________________________________________ what the heck does canopy piloting, understanding of landing patterns and wind speed/direction recognition??? ( windsock reference) have to do with deployment options??? which side to mount the deployment handle is not the issue, but rather what style and shape Handle is best..... .. Your smarmy reply indicates that You're...better than most of us....maybe yes.... maybe No..... p. s. see above sentence for correct use of " your & you're " ... ....geeze that bugs me when people mess that up.... good luck... skydive safely. jmy a 3914 d12122

Yes. I use one to connect my Nikon D70S to a bonehead Bat Rak... ( i run a trv27 next to it ) It is a Solid and well designed quick connect... BUT it is pretty heavy !!!! the two pieces weigh quite a bit, but that's the trade off for a really substantial chunk of hardware. There is good adjustability side to side , i.e. the mount does not have to be centered on the helmet or the camera body. This leaves some flexibility as to where and how you mount the camera... the "release arm" is strong and positive....When opened, you simply have to align and push the camera into place, whereby the base, grabs it, and automatically trips the release arm,,,,, to lock the two pieces together Just be sure to mount it in a way that limits the likelihood of that release arm, coming in contact with risers or suspension lines ( snag points).. all in all I like the beefiness of the set up... It seems like it would only be compatible with top mount cameras though,,, jmy ....

... not pessimistic .......Realistic....... sure it would be great to put every image our eyes experience, onto a tape for review later. But maybe that is what our brains are for...it's called memory... I responded as i did, because for one thing your profile tells us that you have FIVE jumps... For another, it's highly advised that Novice or student skydivers, NOT add to the mix the complexity of a camera/and cam helmet. Sure Sure there are small nondescript cameras available more and more nowadays, and maybe it's possible to add one to your gear, only I won't advise it to ANY one..who is at your current experience level.... so please don't take my comments so personal... Do your Instructors????? think it's a good idea??? what have they said when you suggested it???? likely the same thing i said... but I do see from your profile, that you're an army rigger.... so maybe the rules are different for you....... peace jmy

"cheep' is good....when you are buying a car or a lawnmower or a loaf of bread. But when it comes to skydiving and any peripherals associated with it. Cheap is the last thing you want... you ask for " crisp clear videos" and then wanna spend an amount which will get you anything BUT that. Quality costs. and sadly that applies to our hobbies, as well. Save your $$$$$ skydive some more to build up your abilities in the air, THEn think about adding to the distraction and concentration factors, of flying with a camera... IF you are ok with buying a camera and then "firewiring" footage of YOUR jumps, taken by other already experienced camera flyers, then go for it....That's a good way of getting a video record of your own jumps, prior to reaching the level of accompolishment needed to wear a camera yourself.. just my $.02 jmy A 3914 D12122

surgery of any kind is serious stuff. be careful to "not just assume" that all is well. the operating room, despite all the precautions, sterilization procedures, and Denials by hospitals... IS a dangerous place... Tell your Doctor. of your concerns,, ask Her or Him to order blood tests every 2 weeks, in order to monitor your white blood cell count....An elevated count can be the indicator of trouble brewing,,,, in the form of an infection...Drawing blood is not that painful and can be accomplished easily. In our area there are many sattelite offices with whom doctors work, that will collect, label and send for analysis, a sample for your doctor. It is simple, and quickly done... I had shoulder repair, last November which later developed a large and serious infection . It showed itself after months of slow progress and painful recovery time. 2 surgeons have told me that the infection could have come at the time of surgery... WTF????? I'm not trying to scare you,,, I'm only saying Do Not be complacent. I was, and it cost me, as the infection deteriorated the repair which was done at the original surgery. I figured, well this just takes time, and bought into the idea, that recovery was supposed to be sloooow.... I needed 2 operating room precedures to 'wash out' the infected joint, and while i AM now gaining strength, I am waaaay behind on a pace to normalcy....These Docs are busy busy, and they do a dozen or more surgeries a week. If your post OP doctor visits are like mine,,,,, they only amount to a 10 or 15 minute visit every 6 or 8 weeks.... If there is trouble with an incision, or even deeper inside the knee, shoulder, or any other body area.... best to find out about it sooner than later... Judging by the insurance documents which indicate the Doc gets paid thousands of $$$$,,, for the surgery ( regardless of it's success or failure ) and also get a rate of about 25 dollars a MINUTE for office visits..... I would say you are within your rights, to ask for and receive an analysis and blood tests to adress your concerns..... good luck. jmy

I am shaken to reality as i read this thread... I believe strength comes from overcoming adversity . Poor parenting is not a recent phenomenon, we just hear about it more, and those who made it through that are the better for it. Unjustified hitting by a parent due to troubles elsewhere in their lives and inflicted on a child is Unacceptable...but sadly it happens all too often.. Mothers are good bad effective and sadly, sometimes flat out failures. The important person here is the child who often is forced to make the jump the into adulthood and self support while still in their teens.. ..and Bravo when that person accomplishes it.

Oh Brother!!!!! well i have 3 of them....
-
Yes indeed!!!!! i have seen that picture once before and marveled at it !!!!! It says "brotherhood' in a way that no other skydiving photo has said before..... Super Super Job !!! Well done !!!
-
Point well taken,, however...........an important fact is that I have never had the occasion to be a "full time 4 way " cameraperson.... Not too many hardcore 4 way teams where I jump, and I am not always able to be available for the type of commitment required of a team video person. So that is not a big part of my repertoire... I shoot tandems and AFF and many many 'fun jump' RW skydives... Maybe since I tend to overdo it on the side of caution, I have been fortunate to stay off the backs of my friends.... A more daring and 'on the edge' sorta person, could easily find themselves, suddenly in a poor spot.... A safe way to avoid the wrath of anyone is to tread carefully. If jumpers are not happy with your camerawork while you stay in a safe zone,,,, you can pleasantly suggest that they go out and arm themselves with ALL the equipment which is needed to fly camera(s).. and try it themselves... Zoter,,,my intention was certainly not to scold anyone,,, but rather to point out that once the event occured, the more important aspect is, how did the cameraperson react, upon landing. Was that person aware of the seriousness, of did they brush it off, as 'not that big a deal".. like many things in this sport, Attitude is very very important.... jmy

" I think they were simply out to offend me, for the sake of being an asshole" .... Whoa partner.... When a video person is 'working' they are likely the ONLY person in the air who 'sees EVERYone..'...and if it is ME who is working,,, even if the formation is incomplete, or more properly, especially if the formation is incomplete... I make sure I KNOW where every ONE of the jumpers are...especially those who never may dock on the damn thing....I have learned how to do that ,, with my EYES,,, while still keeping the camera(s) centered on the building formation... Most every one on the dive, usually does NOT see the video guy.... especially if they are concentrating on THEIR job.... SOoooooo If the camera guy hits, crashes into or even touches, a formation, It is almost ALWAYS unexpected...... and as such can be plenty scarey for the people on the dive who are then the target!!!. I have not EVER hit a formation, in almost 1,500 camera jumps,,, except for a time or two, immediately at exit, when timing is off or the count was not fluid, or just getting away from the step and handle, was wrong... on my part... But that is subterminal and not as 'interesting' as hitting a formation at some point during the dive..... ( i learned that if the group gets off the plane sooner than i expected, i e , they 'beat me to the punch', I don't just "leave anyway". I wait a half a count, and then GO and quickly rotate and chase, and get myself into my position promptly..) ( being careful NOT to interfere with any late divers as they come out the door,,,,, sometimes that makes for a cool exit shot ) Now you say you fell "through" the formation and so i will give you the benefit of the doubt that it was a big O, or something else with a large open center.. But the fact is. your vertical speed at that moment likely was NOT compatible with the flat fly speed of the dive... You say you are a freeflyer so I don't have to tell you about corking... In this case ,, your move, was more like a "reverse-cork".. see??? I don't think the person who scolded you was "just trying to be an asshole".. I think maybe that person was scared, and maybe a bit pumped UP about it. and rightfully so... YOU as the videographer DO have the responsibility, not only to get good video but to do it safely and with NO surprises.... Flirting with the burble can be quite tricky and if the formation contains a variety of experience levels, it can slide around, move up or down, potatochip or even instantly disintegrate if one of the divers hits it wrong.... people who are already In the formation may be able to keep an eye out for that, but once all the jumpers are IN....... the last thing any of them expect is to have the video guy, tear through it, hit it, or even touch it,,,,, Unless it is previously discussed that the camera person will dock on the formation, say just as seperation altitude is coming up....and only then, slot perfect....

3.3-million-year-old human-like child fossil found
jimmytavino replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
Human evolution technically does NOT imply that todays humans "descended from apes"... As I understand the theory, modern apes, ( gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans and gibbons) and todays Humans, may share a common ancestor back 8 or 10 million years ago,,, as mammals in general continued, to acclimate and develop according to the environmental demands placed on them. But If man evolved from apes,,, then apes would NOt still be around... The adjustment to a bipedal mode of travel had distinct advantages over 4 legged locomotion,,,,,The being would now have the upper extremities free to carry things with, allowing for increased tool use ability... Standing upright would also allow for better visualization, as compared to an animal whose eyes were closer to the ground... Avoidance of predators often required early recognition of same, and good vision, plus speedy travel on two legs, saved many of our early ancestors from being the main course, for the carnivores with whom they shared their world... The article mentions "tree-swinging" and it's use by gorrilas, however, the true Swingers are the gibbons, and orangutans...THEY have the elongated arms, hand dexterity, stereoscopic vision, and moderate body size which makes "arboreal brachiation " possible.. Gorrillas and chimps may climb, and may navigate through forest canopies, but NOt like the gibbon... Australopithecus, who was first identified by Mary Leakey at Olduvai Gorge was/is significant because of dental similarities to Homo Sapiens Sapien,,,, that is, a rounded dental curve at the front of the mouth. Apes tend to have a Boxy, or more squared off shape...with prominent canines at the front 'corners'... the location of the 'foramen magnum' is significant also... This is the whole at the base of the skull through which the spinal chord and vertabrae connect to the head... Quadrupeds have that feature located on the "back" of the skull and bipedal animals have it located at the "bottom" of the skull. Brain capacity can be determined by the remaining cranial cavity which can be measured in a well preserved fossil, especially if most ALL of the skull is intact... Brain capacity however is not so crucial as brain complexity..... It has be speculated that as mans diet improved, i e more protien and later as Humans settled near bodies of water and began to eat 'seafood', the benifical protiens and omega 3 components, found in that seafood helped to form the complex and amazing brain organs which are components of modern Man... Now if only we could USE them correctly and justify the millions and millions of year which were needed to create them.... -
.... I dunno..... true it IS a nice neighborhood,,,,, but it's more than likely that these "youngsters" live there simply by association to their Parents !!!!! who bought and paid for the "nice homes"... Little shits like that,, who fail to realize and recognize their own good fortune,,,, ( being the child of a hard working parent) and so take most Everything for granted,, are just the type to do stupid stuff in front of a camera... So, while they may very well live there,,,, they do it only by happenstance and not any efforts of their own..... The fact that the car got stolen is verification of their stupidity..... just my $.02.................... jmy

Scientists Claim White House Created 9/11 Attacks
jimmytavino replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
not likely that the W H 'created' anything,,, other than the "draped in a Flag" patriotism which followed the attack,,, and which was based on fear tactics...."They ,, ( those ever allusive terrorists ) are out to get Us".... however a more likely scenario, and one which I personally "deduced' years ago is that just prior to the event, the W H was receiving feedback from FBI field agents,,,, who noted that "non- Americans " were attending flight schools,,,, paying with cash, not asking about how do you land and TAke-off the aircraft, but mostly,, how to you turn, throttle, steer and accellerate them.... Is it possible that our current G O P 'braintrust' acknowledged these threats, but THEN consciously turned a blind eye toward them in an effort to "allow" one or maybe two hijackings to go forth.......?????? The thinking behind such a position being,,,, 'we allow it to occur,,,, i e we "bait " these people,,,,then use that event as the incentive to "light the candle of war",,,,and thereby justify sending troops to Afghanistan and eventually Iraq" ,,,,,,,,, which after all... WAS a goal of G W Bush... since before he even reached the white house.." gonna GET that saddam fellow" " gonna do it" Only trouble is they expected a "low level" event and got a Catastrophe........ So much for the "braintrust" -
