  1. hmmmm according to GW, it's all about Nuke-U-lar..... and then when i read 'bring 'em to their knees" I really get nervous.... How is it that We ( and those we allow )can have that sort of power?.... but those we Don't allow, can not??? I don't see the sense of swatting at a hornets nest, in the First place,,, let alone, to do it when we are not able , to then " run away " from the resulting swarm... Worse YET for a President !!!. to ask volunteer military persons to do just that... hmmm So, Now It's " I RAN "...... interesting play on words... Don't know much about them, don't really WANT to.....may they live their lives, and may we live ours.... If our defense dept. braintrust is planning "hit and run".....that's not good either... makes lots of enemies...people get mad at you,,,,,,resentment lingers, payback is a bitch.. God help us all. jmy
  2. i like to use instrumentals if possible choose your own tempo, style and VOLUME becouse songs with lyrics or certain titles MAY work ok with some of the video but often there are other times when the lyrics and the visuals Don't mesh... i guess that good editing is needed then,,, tom petty is a good example of that...same with vanhalen's jump... Our club offers almost 100 titles, to choose from, for those who come without music,,, ( each camera person was issued 5 different music cds)... But i will certainly use any CD a student may want. and there are ALOT of different tastes, when it comes to music. How many tandem videographers out there . use only One Cd track, and how many use 4 or 5???.. I tend to use the students 2 choices but then also add cuts of tracks which I think work well for jumping videos.... J
  3. that sounds more like a tether, than a seatbelt...... could be lots of bumps and bruises, if 4 jumpers or more got thrashed around during any sort of accident, or take-off issue...only connected by one point... Seat belts are most effective, if they can go around the Jumper, and not just 'through" the harness...AND they are More easily NOTICED, prior to exit, if you wear them around you.... jt
  4. good deal Full arm extension will be important, to keep the Ashes away from the TM's face, as well as your cousins' face... and yes, securing the tube or bag is a good idea,,, rather than trying to hold it....maybe secure it to a glove, which can then be worn. I hope that Mother Nature will cooperate with your plans
  5. I had the privledge of videoing a man who did an ash release tandem jump, in order to scatter a small amount of the ashes of his family member..... he used a clear plastic tube, in the shape of a cigar tube.. he cut the bottom off. leaving a tube about 4 or 5 inches long and attached 2 corks,,,, one for each end... The corks were connected to the tube with short lanyards..... Prior to release the ashes were clearly visible to him,,,, in order to be sure they were intact and safe,,,,, The tube was secured to his left hand,,, corks still in place After drougue deployment, and once I had positioned myself to his liking... HE used his right hand to pop both corks, and then airspeed and 'wind' took over and did the rest... he waved his hand, and the puff of ashes was transferred into the sky..... it worked well..... peace jimmyT
  6. "an adrenaline enthusiast, who is unsatiated by the normal amount of "juice " to be found in a "regular" skydive, and enjoys, "drinking of the fountain" which is located , at 2 feet AGL" hahahahaha.. We started out doing person to person RW, with a favorable cushion of altitude. Then came canopy to canopy RW, again ( if the participants are altitude conscious) with some degree of alt. cushion. Then some mechanics and thinkers among us accomplished, person to AIRPlane RW... bravo then came Person To Ground !!! RW.....with very LITTLE altitude cushion..... swoop if you Like...... i always enjoy seeing capable talent being demonstrated..... it's just that I also cringe,,,, when a riser is held toooo long,,, or a toggle is dropped, or the complex depth perception needed,,,, is inaccurate... swoop if you must, but only when clear of ALL traffic and with the understanding that YOU control your destiny...sometimes in the face of unexpected turbulence, wind eddies, obstacles and fellow jumpers.... swooping only works if you can limit and in fact eliminate all of the "oops".. ..maybe we should call it sw--- ing..... jmy
  7. pretty amazing footage..... YES you CAN still LEARN things on TV..
  8. Is there an exterior floater handle.. which extends far enough forward??? as long as you are secure out there and in good eye contact with the TM and on the same page as far as the exit keys are concerned,,,,,,,if you kick OUT aggressively as you all leave, that should help limit the likelihood of getting into each other. That could put you right even with the door as THEY leave, rather than 10 feet below them, as could be the case from rear float. all depends on how solid you can be AT the FF position. Good thinking,, trying to get a different and unique shot, as compared to the standard, 'lead THEM off the plane" angle which is common with R Float. have fun, Be safe. j t
  9. good link... before i opened it, i wondered to myself, "will this be "The Art of Freefall Relative Work" ?... copyright 1975.... so i grinned when I saw it was "United we Fall" copyright 1978...
  10. why not just paraphrase it and go with "Taste Flight" Leo won't mind... jimmy Da Vino
  11. sorry to be a stickler regarding words,,,, and semantics,,,,, But never never dirt dive , stand, congregate, walk or BE in "front of the airplane" as mentioned in your orginal post..... Right???? Regardless of whether the prop(s) is/are turning or NOT>>>>>>> bad juju........as for discussing exit order on board..... sure why Can't you do that???? I wanna be completley certain of WHO is Going WHEN and I like to know this well before the door goes Up... I fully understand the concept of Load Organizer,,,,, and IF someone is getting a free lift ticket to BE that L O. .. it seems that he or she needs to do waaaaay more than just lead his or her own particular group.... They should organize the ENTIRE load... that's not so say they need to ,, engineer each and every group.... But they should at least Know WHAT each group is doing, and where the solos fit in, and where the tandems, and students etc fit in,, and if asked by ANYone on the plane,,, "what's Happening"?? they should have an accurate answer... right??? a Load Organizer should be lots more than a 4 way partipant who's getting a free skydive.... ok .... fire away!!!!! jmy
  12. when I first saw...... Cutaway Dropzone and Terminal Velocity i cried for the way it portrayed our sport to the general public.. But when I saw The Worlds Fastest Indian..... i REALLY cried as i witnessed Burt Munro's dedication to his goal, easy going way, and the help and assistance which that "way" brought to him.......sniff sniff jaytee
  13. well it's NOW the next day. and i hope the worst is now behind you, and you are doing allright..... sadness sucks.... pm sent best wishes jmy...
  14. ... by your thread title, i figured i was gonna be hearing a meltdown...... but that guy stayed pretty much on top of all the confusion that seemed to be going on... Very interesting bit of audio....I enjoyed listening to it all... my youngest brother has been ATC for 20 + years, some at Newark, some at Poughkeepsie, ( hahaha ) and Last 10 or 12 years at Dulles.... he is sooo laid back, and seemingly not ruffled by all the STRESS... same thing, with this Pro.... But to think these controllers do this work at this pace,,, ALL day long,,,,, and then the weather Hits.....I guess they earn THEIR pay..... At least the ATC guys are insulated from the weary travelers who frequent their airports... thanks for the links... jmy
  15. no kidding.... we only just yesterday got to see the lawn again...as the snow cover melted in 62 degreeF temps...
  16. yes good point... for decades it was very UN likely that a jumper would be hit by another jumper, while heading back on foot from a completed jump... we did learn to watch for planes and flying/taxiing traffic....and canopy traffic was less... Today, the advent of swoop landings and extreme canopy speeds close to the ground, does bring another level of diligence to our jump. Nowadays all landing areas are 'hot zones' and they extend from 0 ft. AGL to a thousand feet AGL. Daydreaming about your skydive while in that zone,,, sure could be dangerous...either at 500 feet,,,, when you should be paying attention or while on foot,,,when you should be paying attention continuing education..... pass it along j
  17. whoa..... don't blame the messenger cause you don't like the message... according to your own post regarding the aircraft accident... you should NOW not ever get in a plane again.... poor judgement and bad timing, knows no geographic boundaries..... jumpers need to stay on top of things,, throughout their skydive, from gearing UP to touching DOWN... The learning curve can be merciless......and sadly that can extend to involve others beyond the inattentive ones.....there are no guarantees.. It's a bit like driving.... stay alert, anticipate trouble, be defensive, don't speed, if other traffic is crawling....and learn to share the road.....safe arrival at the destination should be the top priority... right??? jmy
  18. great..... it tells us so much about 'Murray'
  19. saw it in the theater. then twice on dvd.... very good study of the intracasies of a not so unsual family.... quite the blend of reality, happiness, sadness, excitement, boredom, aspirations, regrets....and accomplishments. all in one 'blended' family... the spouses were on their second marriage, the step brother and step sister were accurately portrayed as, despondent teen and excited child, the Uncle was 'diagnosed' as troubled, but in fact was quite with it and 'sane', the grandfather WAS offbeat, but his philosphy of life,,, worked for me.... The loyalty, and cohesiveness which was eventually demonstrated by these varying personalities, was heartwarming,,,, in that it gave hope to ALL families, everywhere.... .We all have our share of characters,,,, within our lives and within those around us and often it can be that weird mixture of seemingly incompatible individuals,, which can make for a cohesive UNIT...... Not sure why it has been deemed a comedy,,, though there were many funny , ironic, and humerous parts to it... I would instead call it a "dramedy"... since it touches on many many sensitive subjects...and does so in a light way... i liked that the real 'assholes' were the characters who this family runs into ,,, such as the mass marketing dude,,, who had NO sympathy for the father and HIS dream,,, the hospital lady whose false compassion was palpable,, the pageant director who was a true Bitch,,,and some of the pageant parents.... The cool folks , met along the way, included the VW mechanic who showed them how to push-start the van,,,,the computer GUY, who was willing to register Olive, even though she was 5 minutes late,,,,The father with the headphones,, who stood UP and Cheered for the dancing Family,,,, and yes even that asshole motorcycle cop who fortunately got distracted by the porno mags..... All in all a thought provoking film, which rocked, in spite of the fact that there was not ONE outrageous film set, not one gunfight, and NO computer generated effects..... just good dialouge, and believable acting..... see it...
  20. there has always been the quest to have our cameras do the best job possible, to match as closely as possible , the actual Visual image which our eyes are seeing, at the moment that the camera is documenting a skydive. and frankly the video never really seems to do the LIVE view, justice,,,, in addition to working hard to get good footage, i have always strived to have the proper equipment, which can then record as close as possible , to 'the real thing. ' As technology continues to move forward and better imaging becomes available, then i do find myself updating every few years...or so. Like jimoke, I use top mount cameras, and have run sony hi8 and then mini dv using the trv models ( 7 , 20 , 27 ) since '99.... My continuing search for quality led me to the 3 chip VX 1000 which I used successfully for years.... ( Never used a sidemount or a PC series camera, although i have been MUCH impressed with what they can do... amazing performance in such a small package...) For a long time i ran two top mount videos. side by side, with a still camera, forehead mounted.... Now we have entered the HD age, and so sure,,, I am on it....If high definition video of our skydives,,, is attainable, then i'm interested in it...
  21. I came up through the sport, also with a huge emphasis on accuracy....I shot downwind accuracy for years with a French Papillon ( high performance round ) but that was way back when.. then owned clouds, a parafoil 252, and then put 1,100 jumps on a 240 Challenger... You Are correct !!!! about not always getting back from long spots..... it was ONLY when THAT happened, that i would have a chance to shoot an accuracy final, and take advantage of the 'sinking' abilities of such canopies... I too fly camera, ( the last 12 years), and I weigh right around 200 pounds... About 5 years ago, I began flying a PD Spectre 210....
  22. Bravo!!!!!! very good imagination.. and very well done... nice use of the snow.
  23. The writing shown in picture 18467, absolutely looks exactly like My college age sons' handwriting
  24. corrected....to read frontier is technically closed, ( for the winter, only ) ..... back at it , in late april, or early may...depending on weather... J T a3914 d12122
  25. ...Nothing NUTS about it...... well thought out well engineered well executed VERY well documented, with Multiple camera angles...... well Done..... Nuts .... is in the eye of the beholder.... jmy
