I would like to see a better shot of your setup with that pc cam on the side if that is how your still set up. Can't see it every good in that small photo of you. And I can't get video-in-the-skys page to open up for 9 hours now? I would like to see some flash set ups as well, I'm resetting up my system and have a flash now too. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

better safe then sorry, and use a rigger you trust and don't interupt him when working and don't play with the tools. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

If you knew how many times temp pins and other things have been found at the next repack cycle when a rigger just fucked up, after all we're only human and can make a mistake like anyone, you might think twice about, So I would have to disagree with you, but hey you can't see it on my back. Why don't you just get your own ticket instead of putting your rigger you call a friend ,at risk. I guess is your just to damm lazy to earn it, but I don't you so I can't say for sure. Even though I would agree with you a reserve can be kept longer then 120 days and be safe to jump, again there have been many a fuck up found at the next repack and the fuck up was made by very good riggers. Then there is the wannabee riggers who are to lazy to do the work needed to earn the ticket and only did a few pack jobs then dropped out, but still help them selfs to tools and a seal press to help themselfs or a friend out, (YES I know a few of them) I know a 16yr old (he looks 21) who took his dads rigging kit and seal press to a boogie in order to rig, and no he didn't have permission to have it. Let say you were there and let him repack your rig And he left a molor strap in it, you really want to wait for a whole year to maybe find it at a repack if your that lucky to find it then and not when you cutaway 6mo latter. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I don't use one no, I sold my MX-1, but I have seen the the MX-1 PRO DV's sell as low as 1500 to 1800 buy now on Ebay you just have to look a lot for them cuz they don't last long on there. If I was going to go back to a edit board I would look at one, real time edit in DV would be cool. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

***2. Legal issue, I'm not a rigger so educate me here. When someone goes in what "happens" to the rigger. If the reserve wasn't used is it taken apart? Is the rigger called in by the FAA? If someone pen packed there reserve how does that effect the rigger when the rigger can prove that they didn't pack it? (quote) Why would you even want a rigger to have to deal with the fed's and local cops & maybe your familys lawers to have to prove you didn't pack it. Like it's been two years from your last repack ( yes I know people who have and still do it) in that time I have started a new logbook, now you just made a big mess in the dirt with my seal and a bunch of forged sig's using my name and my seal, and your dead cypres didn't fire, even if I can prove I didn't pack it you just made for a very long day for me and I have go dig up my records to find the info the feds and local cops want to see in order to prove it. So if you think me taking me seal back or yanking a handle is being a dickhead fine, I think anyone who would sign my name is dickhead with no respect. Why would I pull a handle, to force them to get a repack and not just replace a seal and sign another name, I have known jumpers to help them selfs to a rigging kit when the rigger wasn't in the loft, another act of no respect! It's no different then a fucking scum bag who would seal someones gear or laptop. And I would never pack that persons rig ever again or sew a bootie or even give them a rubber band! As I see it that seal still belongs to me, you didn't buy it with the cost of a repack, your renting for 120 days, it still has my mark/number mark and is traced to me should you go in, there for if you want to disrespect me and sign my name, I have no reason to respect you or your gear and I will get my seal back one way or the other. I have helped people to get thur a weekend when in need and took the rig with me at the end of the day/weekend, but those people are at least honest and came to me and didn't go behind my back and sign my name, I can respect that kind of person and will help them if I can to a point. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

It's one thing to have your seal on your rig with your signature. if you bounce it is all on you anyway. It's a whole new can of worms to have your seal on joe jumpers rig with your real signature on the data card once and your forged name reappear again and maybe again before you find out about it, and god help you should joe jumper bounce, maybe with an out of date cypres or dead batteries. With the season starting up soon there are a few jumpers I will be asking to see their data card when they show up to jump this season, if they don't want to show it to me I will get the DZO to ask to see it and if my name is on there in pen (I have a stamp) I will heading out to find the rig and one of two things will happen, 1. I will yank the seal off the rig it still belongs to me and 2. I might even yank a ripcord, and if someone wants to throw down because I do it, it's all good with me. You don't forge my name and put me at risk legally and then act like a dick head when called on it. If you want to pencil pack your rig then get your own ticket to risk! If you have the regular plate you could make it an anti twist plate, with a drill and a small screw. This is what I did with one of mine for my video, why pay more when you can mod one it is fast and easy to do, while it may seem ghetto to do no one will be able to see it unless you take it off the cam. your welcome to PM me. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I agree with you there, I used a protec for years with a mount I made in a machine shop. But I will also say that when I did get a "real helmet" I got a hanson fullface you custom mold (add the foam yourself) and I made about 10 jumps with it and found that at times it was almost impossible to get it off on the ground and it had no cutaway, so I got rid of it ASAP for what I had in it and got a FTP. I really love the FTP for a lot of reasons. (I didn't need to bake it) while the cost is one reason I waited for a long time to buy a helmet and hated to drop that kind of cash. I found it worth the money after I got it and it was a write off, well built, nice cutaway, great CS, custom paint for free as well (I got a deal) at the time the price was lower. And it was the best thing to hit the market in a long time at the time. A lot of real estate for my toys, very stable in FF with a lot mounted on it and just more professional looking, after some of the ragtag ghetto crap we had in the early years, and way cheaper then a Wes Rich helmet. If your going to do a lot film work it is a good investment and a good product and American made too. While you may feel the same as I did about the cost I think you will find you like it and not regret getting one, with all the money in cameras today why be a tight ass when it comes to a platform to mount them. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to spend the going rate again, but if I needed a camera helmet I would get one again, I would even look at the Azimuth as well, but what ever one was the best buy would be the one I would get, but after looking at the cutaway on the Azimuth, I would get a FTP but that is my opinion. You always could get a used one for a few hundred less if you can find one, seeing how there hard to find used I think that says a lot about the product over all. Good luck and I hope you find something you like and can justify the money for, try pricing a Wes Rich helmet and see what that will set you back. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Nothing really if your just talking size. But a student rig might have an sos cutway and adjustable MLW have a ripcord or aff boc and handles,SL pocket, but a sport rig wouldn't unless you ordered it that way. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I like the FTP's cutway better, it's on the inside and looks cleaner then this one. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Problem with atmonauti article in parachutist
stratostar replied to sundevil777's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yea but that's not as cool, and after all today it's all about the cool factor, besides that it took some euro trash to came up with a new cool name, for flocking. Don't you guys remember the big write up all about so and so who invented it, the "new word for a track dive". Now they have it all worked out with a spread sheet and all and if you don't fly that way it's just flock/track dive, but if you can fly looking like you got a corn cob up your bum then it's atmonauti. Remember when we were parachutist, but today we are canopy pilots, sounds way cooler when your talking shit trying to impress some drunk ass chick in a bar, stinks to high heaven of cool factor, I guess the "yea baby I'm a skydiver" line quit working. LOL, now it's "yea baby I is a canopy pilot", all they hear is "pilot" and think your a 747 capt'n. All this kind of crap cracks me today, I don't about the rest of you all, but I'm still a parachutist and a skydiver, you all can call it what ever you want, but a lot of us are laughing our ass off at you all who try to out cool each other with your fancy new lingo for the same old thing we been doing for years. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Wow I remember both events, I was jumping in longmont (the old one) and sky's west at that time. You sure know how to bring up some days we would rather forget/wish never happened. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yep that is the one Wheatridge is next to Arvada so that is why I was thinking it, I looked for my scrapbook but I'm not sure where it is right now. That was a messed up deal for anyone who saw it. Thanks for setting the record stright, it has been a long time ago and repressed in the memory bank. They are gone, but not forgotten. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

With out digging out my old newspaper clippings and double checking the first name. Yes there was a 3 stack that wrapped at a demo in littleton/arvada and Vance was one of them. It has been a long time, we all called him bobby, so I'm sure it's the same guy. That was a fucked up day, they landed in the crowded street of carnival goers. If I remember right it was in 84. I have the news photos and stories in a scrap book some where. And was at the service for them. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I know someone who has one in his bellywart right now, with the pin installed, and yes it is bottom to top, while many a jumper would think it is foolish to use this canopy, this jumpers seems to have no worries about using it should he need to, and he is a rigger so it would be his seal. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

It is well documented that this happens in the chamber and they do it to show airmen what takes place, those people think there doing fine playing cards or writing their name over and over, as I'm sure you know, when seeing the films of these tests it looks like their drunk or on an acid trip till they pass out. I think you are correct that many jumpers would have no clue as to the state of them selfs or others the test prove it. And what chuck said too. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

That was my point, in a way, let the mounting screw rip out and lose the camera instead of snaping your neck. I avoid putting granny straps on my cameras, you know you see people put two or more of them on there like "mini risers". What would be better is to have safety cable so the camera breaks free but don't bounce like mine did, I was thinking about doing that, but hadn't done it cuz one thing came to mind, now you have a camera flapping around attached by the cable and is still a snag point. I would rather replace a camera then a whole set up, unless I had to ditch the whole thing to save my ass. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Flat top pro rocks lot of real estate to work with. The camera comes down to what do want to spend. I like the canon 10 or 20d's my self but there heavy. The rebel xt's are nice too and light, I think a little slower though and I don't like the plastic body. But the people I know who have them have had great luck with them. I'll be top mounting a pc100 on a FTP with a 20d. At least I can side mount the pc 100 if I ever wanted to do so, but couldn't with a TRV. And yes sony all the way again how much do you want to spend. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yo what everyone else posted, I too have a 14mos old yellow lab, it didn't take long for her to learn. I did just what most everyone already posted, and a big HELL yea on the crate training, I got one that you can make bigger as they grow, helps a lot. at first we put her in it and locked it up, now we can leave it open and she can roam the house, I often come home to find her asleep in the cage. Also we covered it with a old sleeping bag to make it more of a 'den" feeling, seemed to help. Good luck , oh yea be on the look out for the eating of poo anyone know how to stop that? ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
