Did you jump out of an aircraft in flight and use a parachute to descend to the earth? If you answered yes, then it counts! T-dog has a good point, you don't have to use the parachute, but it's a good idea..... ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

No "technically" he would owe one for his first jump. Or even if he had a cutaway on jump 3, being a grad has nothing to do with it, where you new kids today get your info from is beyond me,this is a old tradition, why do all the newbies keep trying to change the rules to suit their needs. FYI- there is no 1000 jump rule for getting out of the tradition! ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

yea I've been using two of them one is a 1993 and one is a 1998 and both have been my camera canopies, I have not weighed my camera helmet, but at a guess I would say 12 or more pounds. I have no neck problems, none, nada, zip in 12 years of using saber 1's with camera helmets all most every jump. In fact I keep the 93 because of the consistant on heading soft openings it gives me, the canopy has around 3800 jumps on it and is on it's 4 line set. My 98 is just as good of a canopy, if I get any funky openings it is because of sloppy packing and still slick z-po, where as the 93 packs like F-111 and it don't care if it's packed sloppy or not. All the saber 1 bashers I think are full of shit for the most part, yes there have been people hurt or killed jumping them just like any other canopy. I have read the posts about the jumper last season(and others) who broke his neck on opening, and everyone claims it was because he had a saber 1. Were they in FF watching? How do you know something didn't snag his head and snap his neck? Because it wasn't still snagged when he got to the ground? That proves nothing! People need know it can happen to anyone under any canopy at any time! JMHO. As for the poster, dude jump the thing 5 or 10 or 20 jumps and make up your own mind if it is the canopy for you or not, that is the only way you will know. Asking people on here, is like asking two used cars sales men, if this is the right car for you. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Body position during three-way
stratostar replied to skydivermom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Kind of hard to tell from the shot, but looks to me like classic tandem trained student, what I mean by that is you always see them trying to arch with their chest and stick there ass up in the air (dearched) making them fly very flat and dearched, you do need to arch a lot more looking at the photo, a photo of you from the side would be better. I have attached two photos of a small light weight lady, with no weight vest on flying with the boys. It also helps if you jump with others in your fall rate range, so your not always trying to fly max slow or max fast, you need to be in the middle so you have range + or - speed, of course this will improve with time as you learn more. As long as you have fun, thats what matters. Congrats on your one year in the sport. -

What darkwing said, and the real rule is first time you do anything, it's a case of beer to the dz, first jump, first cutway, first broken leg, first off dz landing, ect. you get the point. And if your at a cool dz they will let you drink a few. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

That is the cheapest I've seen them and they still hold there value. Unless you can find one on here. I you can afford it the MX-1 DV pro is the way to go so you get DV in and out ports, and ebay is the place to find a good used one, there like 2300.00 new. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

My dad used to carry the right had yoke under the seat, and would hand it back to the FJ students and ask them to hold it. In 76 Shorty janoshack (SP) came down with his D-18 to Topeka,Ks to join in on the airshow demo with the locals, Just as they were about to taxi out I walk up to the door with an empty M-18 I had put the cap back and handle on it with a pin, I got to the door, waved it to everyone and said "you forgot your smoke" pulled the pin and tossed in the door, it was like slo-mo as the handle flew off as the thing flew thru the air, talk about getting "white eyed". ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yes you and pete are correct on those two. Skydive jack, No I have never heard him called lizard if your talking about photo #1. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Why not do like the rest of us and mount a quick shoe of some type, (stroboframe, gold member, ect) And then you can remove the camera and change your tape with out having to realine it every time you remove it At least then you won't have to pass up those good deals. Or you could get a older trv that loads the tape from the side and would do what you want to do with out removing it (old school) And stay away from the PC7, the lanc sucks ass. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

My point has nothing to do with the numbers, is has to do with bashing someones experiance with the system, we all know his 50ft is not close to being correct, due to the event and how the mind works during a event, but there is still no reason the bash him , he felt like it was 50ft., the key word being "felt". ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

It's called the "good ol boy" network! And just who was the manger at X-keys. Your right it is a joke, just ask any of the other dz's who have been fighting access rights and got no help from HQ. Yet our dues get spent to fly out someone to defend a non GM dz. Smells of BS! I hope you all remember that come time to vote the next go around, if you don't vote in some new blood you can expect the same old song and dance. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
It would depend on what dz your at, everyone charges different. I normally make 35 for video and I sell my stills to the person on cd for 30 dollars and it's 40 to 60 photos sometimes more, if all you want is a 8x10 it it's 16.00. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Hey job seeker, why not start your own company? Don't limit your self to I.T., I have an idea for you as to what kind of company you can start with less then 3 grand investment, and you get to be your own boss, and at your age you could do well. I'm doing it myself right now, but I had a lot of the equipment to do it, and it would involve a lot of computer stuff, I'm a dealer for the company and the only one in my area, I don't know if there are any out your way, but that wouldn't stop you from doing this. If you are interested then answer me back. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Going to a town that has already run off one dz is not what I would call the "perfect location" to try to start another dz, in fact it should have been the last one on the list. Due to the history with that city it should be no big surprise to have an uphill battle with them. This is one thing that would make me think they didn't plan ahead very well or do there homework. While I have stated very clear, he has a right to give it a try and I can respect someone wanting to follow there dream, I can't understand why he would have picked that city, when there are far better locations in the area without the history of banning a dz. If you really want to support your brother, go hand out flyers at the mall, bring a big group of tandems out, make a bunch of sandwitches get some cold drinks and pass them out, buy the jumpers some cases of cold beer, run manifest, cut grass, learn to pack parachutes, learn to edit video, pick up trash, pay the porta pottys for a month, buy a hundred jump tickets and hand them out to visiting jumpers, answer the phone, get some hot chicks to wash the jumpers cars topless, buy 3000 gallons of fuel for the plane, go pick up jumpers when they land off, ECT,ECT,ECT -
So you don't think a video person is risking their life as much, eh. Granted we don't have a sack of meat on front to grab our hands or handles, instead we have shit on our head that can get grabbed and snap your neck or keep you from seeing or cutting away and a whole list of possible things that can happen. Do you even have a clue as to how much we have invested in order to the job and the risk involved? 1. two rigs in order to do back to back loads 2. price any real digital still cameras lately? 3. price any digital video cameras lately? 4. helmet costs. 5. additional tools like cameye, quick releses ect. 6. jumpsuits for different jobs 7. editing equipment, price any of that lately? 8. memory cards. 9. cost of cd's,dvd's , printer ect. 10.having to rush to meet loads (high risk) 11. flash 12. batteries Just to name a few. Last time I was at SDC, when I was in the video room I was told many of there guys had two hemets set ups, land hand one in take one out and go. Have you ever shot video, do you even have a clue as to how much risk is involved shooting video? I guess NOT or you wouldn't have said that. They don't say it's the second most dangerous skydive for nothing. We earn every penny we get and often don't even come close to getting back what we have invested, cost of a tandem rig and then some. I bet your one of those jumpers who wants the photos, but then bitches about how much we charge for a print or video. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

He needs nothing other then a bank account with money in it. There are other DZO's in the USA that have no ratings and are not even jumpers. The DZO of SWC has half a dozen jumps, a few AFF's and tandems, and don't jump has no ratings and is not a pilot. The fact that she grew up as a dzo's kid and learned the biz gives her the experiance to run a dz and run one of the biggest boogies in the country. So it can be done. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Welcome to skydiving, you will meet some of the greatest people in the world, as well as some of the lowest of the low lifes. To everyone on both sides, While we do teach people to face in to the wind, doing so while pissing, is not recommended. Your right, live and let live, let these people play at their place and those who don't want to join in, stay out of that sand box, take your bat and ball and go home. I hope this thread get's locked too, I think everyone else is tired of the public pissing contest. I am. ~ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
