I would agree, I just think it is FUBAR to do to someone who booked airline tickets and a hotel room, possible entry fees and pre paid jumps, only to be treated that way at the end. And this is not the first time these friends have traveled to this boogie, they have gone the last 3 times it was on. I would agree with you there. I had some friends from up north travel to this years keys boogie, when the jumping stopped due to the power line hit and they had to leave to make their flights back home they were told they couldn't get a refund on unused lift tickets and to "stop by Sebastian" to use them. While I wasn't at or have I ever been to the keys boogie, I don't know if it was well stated that there would NO REFUNDS of pre-paid lift tickets. But I was surprised to hear my friends were told to travel way out of their way to use the tickets and not given a refund, seemed kinda of like a low class act IMHO. If I were take vacation to visit DZ's in FL, I would be less inclined to pay a visit to SEB based upon how friends I trust were treated at a boogie put on by them, so as to not get the same screwing. So I guess in today sport if you don't want to get fucked over by greedy DZO's and boogie host's pay by the jump and don't pre pay for your tickets, it's sad to see what our sport has turned into these days, no wonder the numbers are in such decline. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Fair enough, but it if I was looking for gear the Reflex and Eclipse would be the at the very bottom of the list, if on the list at all, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because the longer time goes by there is less of chance of getting service for them, and there are better rigs on the market one could pick up for a reasonable price and that parts are more easy to aquire for them should you lose a freebag, for example. Why do you keep looking at rigs no longer made? wern't you just asking about reflex rigs? If your trying save money, buy a used rig that is still made, or buy you a brand new dolphin to save money. Work my ass at the dz, most if not all my student jumps were paid for by, doing everything I could do around the Dz to earn a jump, packing parachutes, taken out the trash, cut'n grass, getting the phone, painting the club house, washing airplanes ect. Now I still work my ass off doing all the same shit as well as working in the air now that I have ratings and fly a lot of video/still cameras and have my own company for weekday work. I never said that for one thing. What I said was there is nothing wrong with the reserve if you jump one without it overloaded. Then again I have seen them landed just fine over loaded (1.2-1.3) and I have seen fools jump them loaded 1.5 or better and they got pounded, one broke his back. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

My point is, this jumper has one on their back if they are so worried about using it then stay on the ground! With that aside, If I had to use one (and I have one on my back) I wouldn't worry about dumping it. Are there other canopies on the market today that are better, yes there are, am I going to run out a replace my MR150, no. as for the circket, haven't jumped one so I have no real comment on that reserve. I to have seen jumpers stall theirs, why? For one they were told when buying it, it was too small for them and then when they used it the flair was too high, too fast and they got pounded! I have seen more of them landed just fine then those who got pounded with them. All of the MR150's I have packed and had saves on worked just fine, not a one of them blew up or have had damage after deployment. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Nothing wrong with a MR 150 ! Just had a girl fire a 1996 model (first deployment) this weekend due to a total on the main, opened just fine (soft for a term deploy she said) flew just fine back to the DZ to a stand up landing. Don't believe all the BS you hear/read, make up your own mind and test jump one, I'm sure Gorge would send you one to test, then you won't have to "worry" about using it when you need to. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

If at some point you care to tell us the story of your trip to WA in 79, I for one would like to hear about it. And as posted above, how about doing a tandem?
