So what? Seriously. So what? It's not as if bringing that to light comes with a copyright. Once a piece of information is public, that's what it is; public. I definitely realize that - it is just that I like to see credit given where credit is due. I despise deception even though I have had to participate in deception myself - often pleading ignorance to a subject or pretending to know more about the subject than I really did. 17 yrs is a LONG time to dwell on one subject. I do try to remember who brought certain things forward and despise individuals who do NOT give the credits where they belong - instead taking credit for things they had NOTHING to do with. Lol....Credit for what? I must have missed something. Is the case solved? Just kidding, I know what you mean, but the thing is you're wrong on this one. The Cooper comic/ DB cooper connection was noted way back in 1982 in the Oregonian. I sent you the article. This thread goes way back, but not quite that far I don't know, but I'm thinking no one "owns" the DB Cooper story. Or the facts and ideas and speculations that surround it. And sometimes I wonder whether maybe this case would've been solved a long time ago if folks weren't so worried about who got the credit and getting their slice of the pie...though in case you haven't noticed..the slices on that pie are getting smaller and smaller.

I remember this article. I think this is a different LD. I found records of a Lynn D Cooper that was a much older than our LD. I'll see if I can still find info on him.this broke out at the same time Marla's story first aired. As far as that goes, I didn't check out any further to verify that the Lynn D in the divorce is Lynn Doyle. I was relying on a post on here that said Marla's Lynn Doyle was married to a Becky Jo Defoe. Just putting that caveat out there.
-
well. Marla is coming out of the darkness claiming LD was married to an FBI agent during the time of the hijacking. According to this, during the time of the hijacking, LD was actually in the process of divorcing Becky Jo Defoe, who he married in Feb of 71. Process started November 9, 1971. [inline ld_becky_divorce.jpg] from what I've read, this is the type of notice that is used when a defendant lives out of or has left the state or for whatever reason can't be found. Publication of the complaint and summons in a newspaper at least once a week for X number of weeks takes the place of actually serving the defendant, and can result in a default judgement if they fail to respond. I love how they start this one off with The state of Nevada sends Greetings!! I mean..a divorce or getting sued is "usually" not exactly a Hallmark moment. Oh and thanks for the link about you know who. I'm just glad you didn't post anything about cattle mutilations.

Really? Case closed? Says who? Name a verifiable source, please. Marla Cooper claimed the same thing in December 2011 and so far that hasn't happened. On the chance you are right, then you never know. Maybe they ARE closing the case. Maybe the Seattle FBI finally took the time to go around and talk to a few people. Hey, it could happen. I gave them a not-too-bad head start.

I came upon these articles today. November 25, 1971. I'm sure that they have probably been posted -- maybe when we were discussing the possibility of an escape in Reno, but I can't remember -- so I'm posting again. Granted this is obviously a very early report, but some interesting items: 1. How the first page mentions a possible escape in Reno. Even the headline alludes to that. "As the plane was taxiing to the terminal, it stopped long enough for the man to escape safely through the emergency exit", the FAA said. 2. How quickly the FBI went to a smokejumper source. 3. Still want to know what the guy in the picture is carrying.

lol. Confucius says “The hardest thing of all is to find a black cat in a dark room, especially if there is no cat.” However, nothing in my prior post should be construed to mean that we should stop trying to solve it. It's like a house of mirrors at the fair when you're young and like that kind of stuff - the fun is in finding the way out, not the final step you make out the door. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

No one said you had to be perfect - just that sometimes it's just easier to say you were wrong and let that be that instead of trying to explain it away by saying you didn't say something or blaming other folks. Seriously, no one wants to hear for the 100th time why and how others steered you wrong about Kenny. It is what it is. It is my belief, as it stands-- if what we've been led to believe the FBI has, this case will never be definitively solved without the money, a body, or other effects that can lead to a conclusion (like "the" chute found in a large, deep body of water). Second best would be a first-person confession to multiple non-biased witnesses (preferably law enforcement, a judge, a preacher, and all of the Cooper dropzone forum participants) where everything confessed is checked and converges towards a preponderance of evidence conclusion. (I don't think you could ever get beyond a reasonable doubt) Seriously, no amount of "investigation" that you or Jo or Marla or Galen or any other interested parties do at this point is likely to change this and you all live in very breakable houses - because logic can dismantle each story as easy as not and, so far, no one has come close to a preponderance of evidence, much less prints or DNA or other tangible proof. Just a bunch of memories and circumstantial whatnot which might or might not be suspect for whatever reason. Who knows - maybe Marla is working on her second edition where she "gets it right".... or maybe she's crazy or a liar...or maybe she just had some memories and went from there. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I don't think I actually said for sure that KC saw that particular magazine. If I did, it must have been early-on in the investigation. This is what actually happened: One of the historians for NWA, as well as a couple of the guys stationed on Shemya told me this: That crews from Canada, Europe, and elsewhere, when they stopped on Shemya, made a habit of gleaning whatever reading material they happened to have on board...and left it for the 'poor saps' stationed on Shemya. This reading material ended up in the Day Room on Shemya, I was told, and the most popular of all were the comic books. No one claimed to have specifically seen the Cooper comics on Shemya. No one. At that time in the investigation, I didn't know much about the comics except I knew they had been going since at least the early 1950's. But I also knew KC had not been at Shemya after 1952. After that date, he went to a small island in the South Pacific where they did some of those atomic tests and took a job working as a telephone operator. No one knows exactly how long, (checking test records, they evacuated the island where he worked in 1954) but we know he returned to Seattle at some point and by 1957 he was back with NWA after some purser training. His name appears on some NWA flight plans running the Seattle/Shemya/Japan or Philippines routes starting in 1957. Later...I found out that the comic wasn't even created until 1954 or so...discounting the possibility that Kenny saw them on Shemya. He was gone by then. He served there from (approximately) 1947-1952. We do know that until NWA stopped using Shemya as a refueling stop, Kenny was still making visits there on his flights between Seattle and the Orient route stops. It's occurred to me he MAY have seen them on one of those stops, but without proof I kind of gave up chasing that one. Because of bad weather, sometimes the stops took longer than anticipated, and it wouldn't surprise me if Kenny occasionally hopped off to see the old place where he spent five years working. But as I said, there's still no proof he saw the comic there, or EVER saw it. In the Blast book, I said this about it: ***'This comic was linked by the F.B.I. as a possible clue to the choice of name used by the hijacker. Nothing has been proven on it one way or another. Even if the hijacker was inspired by the comic to use the name ‘Dan Cooper,’ unless the comic can be linked to a specific suspect, it remains only an interesting speculation...' Side Note: On Jo's post above concerning ML King and a rifle? I hope she's not trying to connect Duane's rifle to King. The rifle that killed King was recovered shortly after the shooting. I knew you would go there. Robert, the post wasn't about KC or Shemya since we all know that Kenny couldn't possible have seen the comic books on Shemya based on the time that he was there. However, if you insist on re-inventing the past..... You said on dropzone, and I quote, " Rich Cochran (communications officer on Shemya in the 50's) said he remembers seeing some of those Dan Cooper comic books in the Day Room at the same time 'Mike Watson' and Kenny Christiansen served there, including the one with the parachute. It may be significant, maybe not." Now, from the above statement that you made about something that Rich Cochran said, you made this leap on another site: [inline blevins_post.JPG] So, in fact someone did say they saw the cooper comic in the Dayroom on the island, and you did say that Christiansen saw the comic book in the day room on the island. Those are what we call just the facts, proven by words that never go away on the world wide web. Now back to my original point - which was not about KC or SHemya or the fact that you or whoever you want to blame was wrong about KC and the comic - it was that IF KC may have seen the comics -- as you again stated above unless you edited it out while I am writing this -- how then can you discount that someone else might not have seen them overseas? It's okay to admit that you can't. I'm not going to go over the other areas of faulty logic that I pointed out since it's apparent that you quit reading once you thought you had to defend your KC Shemya account. Like I said -- if you had read it you would have seen that wasn't the point. The truth about the Shemya story is you didn't do your due diligence and you got caught up in the story and got carried away, jumped the gun and turns out you were wrong. Who knows, maybe that's all that Marla is guilty of?? I'm not disagreeing that it's highly questionable whether he had a Dan Cooper comic on his wall, but if you are gonna argue the point against LD Cooper having the comic book, at least stick to the facts and use reasonable logic. Otherwise you're just peeing in the wind. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I'm curious ...you certainly didn't think that it would have been a stretch for Kenny to see or know about the comics on Shemyla island (before you were informed that the dates didn't work) As a matter of fact you were posting this AS FACT on various sites that "Christiansen SAW this comic in the day room at Shemya Island..." So why the disbelief when someone says that another person might have had access to the comic book? Maybe, just maybe, someone else saw it while stationed overseas?? The comic book might have been obscure in the US and Canada, but it certainly wasn't in 24 other countries. As for knowing French - lol... this is the beauty of a comic book. You might not know all the nuances but you can probably get the general gist of the story line by looking at the pictures. They do say a picture is worth a thousand words. As for Canada, the comic book wasn't distributed in Canada either - though I found a 1975 article (attached) that mentions a strip (in French) ran in the Canadian newspaper La Patrie. But that's a strip and not the book and I don't know whether it ran daily or weekly or even regularly. In 1984 apparently you can get the published album or book that contained the completed serial storyline in Canada, but, as for the comic book, the comic's creator Arthur Weinberg is in talks with Canadian Publishers about this. See attached. Then in yet another 1995 article, the comic book is still not being distributed in Canada. See attached. Now granted these are news articles - I didn't research the publishing history but it seems logical to assume, unless you were a Canadian living or stationed in one of those 24 countries, your chance of perusing the comic book or obtaining the comic book to hang on your wall were about as good (or bad) as an American from Oregon visiting Canada. Just saying... if LD Cooper was overseas after 1954, he would have had as much of a chance of seeing or purloining a copy as would say a Kenny Christensen. Other than that - there are other ways that someone in Oregon could get the comic book, but the odds obviously diminish. And before you start getting the Marla twitch - I am not referencing in any way her story, the veracity thereof, or whether I believe her - I am only disputing the logic you use to dispute her story. It's like the Shemya Island thing - you might need to dig deeper if you want to go toe to toe on facts. Finally...fwiw ....and this might have already been posted, not sure.... I think most of us thought that the potential for a DAN COOPER comic -hijacking connection was a recent finding, but I found an article from 1982 that mentions the comic in reference to the hijacking. Just thought this was interesting... [inline dan_cooper.jpg] but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I never said LD was a paratrooper, nor did anyone else. someone said this though.... "If I understand correctly, Dewey was a Paratrooper and worked for the Airlines. " quote is from testxyz...... sigh....Not to mention, that we've presented (several times) some compelling information that shows the "basic record" is very likely "wrong". eta...at least in regard to his dob but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

yes, I understand what the grave says. we have conflicting records of birth. it doesn't add up to 1931.could you explain how his brother was born 8/11/1931? Social Security says this as well. (see photo) Marla admitted something was wrong on here in 2012, I'll look for it. if you did any research you would find that the cemetery also has conflicting dates. something is wrong here some where. Lynn D Cooper use to be on Social Security death index, can't find him now? here is Marla's response on Jan 30, 2012 this is part of the family tree. note that Dewey is born before LD, just as Marla said. so we know Dewey's birth is correct. I think the death certificate info is just wrong for whatever reason. On the 1940 census LD was 6 (census was in April of 1940, so that means that LD would have been 7 in September of 1940 - putting him born in 1933). Dewey was 8 yrs old on that census. One reference that I've seen puts LD's birthdate as September 12, 1933. So not real sure about the day, but the month is most likely September and the year is most likely 1933. Maybe he lied about his age at some point or --more likely -- whoever he was with at the time of death gave the wrong information to the funeral home and they got lazy and didn't double check it or didn't go back and fix it once they realized it was wrong. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

This is just part of TIGHAR's annual fund raising campaign. There is no believable evidence that Amelia was headed anywhere but Howland Island. During her last radio transmissions, she was close to Howland and trying to find it, while saying she was low on fuel. The flight down to the TIGHAR site would have taken another three hours and she simply didn't have fuel to get there. Not to mention that there are a number of other islands closer to Howland than Gardner. A few years ago, TIGHAR was claiming to have found a heel from Amelia's shoe. More recently, they claimed to have found a "freckle cream" jar similar to ones Amelia reportedly used. Last year, it was a "wheel" sticking up out of the water and now it is a blip on a sonar map. Next year? Who knows? Robert99 Whatever TIGHAR finds, they always try to link it to AE. Any aluminum is from her plane, even if the rivet spacing doesnt match. Any shoe is her shoe. The freckle cream jar? AE had freckles so of course it was hers. Here is TIGHAR'S side scan sonar image: https://www.google.com/search?q=sonar+earhart+plane&safe=off&rlz=1T4GGNI_enUS522US522&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=twStUZv-B6WbigKB84HoDw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1680&bih=849#facrc=_&imgrc=qaBMkStVFcHapM%3A%3BDKx6FqQTpWR2zM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fstatic.ddmcdn.com%252Fgif%252Felectra-sonar.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fnews.discovery.com%252Fhistory%252Fus-history%252Fsonar-may-reveal-earharts-plane-photos-130529.htm%3B660%3B433 Its so noisy and low res that I dont think you can draw any conclusions about what object produced the echoes. Here is what good high res side scan sonar images a sunken plane look like: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/52050000/jpg/_52050305_52045949.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13000925&h=360&w=640&sz=68&tbnid=Rv23WPES35HeJM:&tbnh=67&tbnw=119&zoom=1&usg=__-DN-qT6XhqNj8b8F7HahJX3XEgU=&docid=mZ4PeCj0PweAFM&sa=X&ei=YAWtUeW7C-aYiALKwoG4Bw&ved=0CFkQ9QEwCw&dur=174 Sure, target depth and boat speed play a large role in image quality, but if TIGHAR thought their image was noteworthy why didn't they do more while on scene? The could have lowered a camera or towed a magnetometer over the suspected aircraft. They could have slowly worked a pattern over the site and obtained better sonar images. There is always tantalizing evidence that is used as bait to fund yet another TIGHAR trip. Sigh... 377 Yea, I know the TIGHAR story and all the reasons why this is just another fundraiser. On the other hand, I kind of like to think of her as making it to land- even with a crappy ending- as opposed to her just running out of flippin gas over open ocean -- a victim of poor planning and execution. I was brought up thinking of her as a hero - kind of hard to let go of that

News is that TIGHAR is excited about a sonar image that " might" be Amelia Earhart's plane. It will be sad if it turns out she was actually on an island and died while trying to send out radio signals that were missed or disregarded as pranks. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

I'm sure Jo will speak to this and, no doubt, tell you to RTT :) In bold colors!! :) To give credit when due- She has presented stuff (including-employment records) from those years and, if not mistaken, has talked to various co-workers employers, etc.. You can use the search function to read relevant posts if interested. I might be wrong but I think part of what she is trying to do with earlier years is put Duane in a parachute and show he was familiar with the area. Though I agree a bit of timeline organization to the narrative would be nice. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

Jo said: I doubt that it is your Duane also. See most recent post. It's not google's fault when people jump to conclusions. It's just information but like anything else - folks can't just jump on the first thing they see without reading it and making sure it's valid info. You learn that real quick when researching genealogy - you can go off in the wrong direction very easily if you're not careful -- or if you blindly trust that other people have done the proper research. Wastes a lot of time. ...Plus Google's a lot less fun than hanging out in dusty old courthouse basements going through old documents.

You can access court files on line here https://pa.alacourt.com/ Duane Weber case is on there.... cost is 9.99 for case details and 21.99 for case details and images. But it might not be your Duane -- Note There is a middle initial "R" -- so, unless you just want to roll the dice for 9.99 on the chance that the R was a typo, another alias, or just wrong, you might want to see if there is a Duane R Weber in Mobile - eta -Actually - strike that - this Weber could have been from anywhere - they might have filed in Mobile because that's where the company was based. I think I'd save my money - wouldn't mean a lot to the DB Cooper issue anyway if it was Duane L. but....A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.....Winston Churchill

In 1988 is when we moved to Florida, but I don't know about any lawsuit. He did fall, but that was yrs later at a convenience store. Do you know the area of this Degussa Corp and what kind of company they are. We were married but, he never mentioned anything about filing a lawsuit. If he did that might explain money that appeared in 1990. Curious? How do I find out about this. I guess just because it was filed doesn't mean it ever actually went to court, but I would imagine there would be a record of the filing and subsequent happenings.. On their website - Circuit Civil Division, they have a downloadable pdf records request form. I can pm it to you if you'd like. Hey Jo, When I was retrieving that St Pete article earlier, I noticed a Circuit Court blurb that said "Case # 2811 - Duane Weber, Plaintiff vs Degussa Corp, defendant; seeks no specified damages in connection with personal injury suit" - It was in 1988 - was that your Duane?
