  2. i made one up back in my 'commodity relocation engineering' days. dashing through the snow, with 400 cummins power. what once took 20 minutes, today took me an hour. i just slid around that last corner. it gave me quite a fright. oh what fun it is to be out trucking in the snow tonight! oh jingle bells, some more snow fell, there's three cars in my way. but if my retreads grip, and my truck don't slip off the road i'll be okay, hey! jingle bells, even more snow fell. now there's 5 cars in my way, but as long as my cummins keeps on hummin' i'll make it home today. 3. how about 'other'? i jump a vse infinity and would buy another one in a heartbeat. great rig, great quality, outstanding service! "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  5. if you're ordering everything new and custom, it might as well match! i bought a piece of gear a year, and eventually everything matched. jumpsuit, container, canopy, free-fly pants, all red white and black. it's a far cry from my first set of used gear... black, blue and red javelin with a white, pink and pinker sabre 190! i did end up with a jumpsuit that accidently matched the container though, and had a blue pro-tec so i didn't look too bad on the ground. under canopy, it looked like i had a cloud of cotton candy over my head. 6. i'm arriving in harrisburg on the 16th at about 1045. is anyone else arriving around then that would be interested in splitting a car rental for the week to get to/from elizabethtown and to/from the class every day? 7. if i was used to an otter, and my dz traded down to a pac, i probably wouldn't like it. but that's not the target market. it's for smaller dz's trading up from 182s or 206s or whatever. i know deland got one, but it was probably to fill in when they couldn't fill an otter. from the point of view of someone with about 300 of his 385 jumps out of a cessna, a pac rocks! the door may be smaller than an otter, but it's bigger than a 182, and nobody has to launch out of the crotch on a 4-way. it's way faster, and more comfortable. i'd rather bobsled seats than sitting on the floor in a cessna and doing the 9500 foot shuffle to get turned around prior to exit. the only thing i don't like about it is the low wing. the horizontal stabilizer looks low on the ground, and you'd want to make sure the plan wasn't climbing on exit! don't know how the kodiak compares to the pac, but on paper it looks like a much better jumpship. if you're on a mac, handbrake works a treat. you can probably get just the sound if you wanted, but i haven't tried to do that. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001

  12. i have a big ari sportz lotus (170) with about 250 jumps on it now. i like it a lot, very stable in turbulence but like phree says, that's not a license to go jump when you wouldn't do it with a normal canopy. 13. what happened was nobody buys the music any more. some bands seem to have accepted that they give the music away and sell the show. works for me! sucks to be a new band, but the old cats are making a fortune! 14. i got mine for about $100 (after fees and exchange rate) for the 8th row in boston. it'll end up costing $600 or so by the time i get there and back (with the missus) though. still worth it to me! 15. another member of the big head club here, and i have a mamba as well! i like it, it's comfy, it's secure. i had to get rid of the ray-bans and get gatorz so i could wear sunglasses under it though, not a lot of clearance. i'm also finding that the lens scratches easy, but like someone else mentioned, they're cheap. i'm not a big fan of the audible pocket though. the velcro that holds it in place (or the fabric it sticks to) isn't very secure, and i had to put some duct tape over the hinge bolt for the sheild to keep it from scratching my audible all to hell. best bet is to try them on if you get a chance. i tried a bunch and the mamba was the first one that fit right. 16. i remember when my daughter was about 3 and she was heading to bed. i had left a large metal tool chest in the hallway and she stubbed her toe on it. no crying, no theatrics, she just looked down and said 'fuck', then carried on to bed. my wife looked at me kinda shocked and i said, "well, it's not like she used it out of context. i'da said the same thing". 18. take the line that leads to the canopy and push it (and the knot) through the grommet. this should make enough slack to slide the loop down over the base of the toggle. the excess is fingertrapped into the line. this is partly asthetic but it also provides some security: when there is tension on the steering line, the outer line squeezes the inner line and holds it securely. it also stores the excess line and keeps things a little neater. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  19. NOT A RIGGER! (yet) you should be able to remove the steering line from the toggle without undoing any knots or finger traps, providing it was done correctly in the first place. once you have removed the toggle from the steering line, all you'll have to do is undo the rapide links or slinks from the suspension lines and you can then remove the slider. i would remove one set of lines at a time, and after taking them out of the slider grommet, reattach everything the way it was. when you want to reinstall it, simply reverse everything you just did, then do a continuity check on your lines. then check them again. then get your rigger to check them. 20. you might be able to go the parallels/boot camp route and run windows on your mac. i know you're looking for a native version but it doesn't look like there is one. "Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." MB4252 TDS699 killing threads since 2001
  21. actually, i read in the august 2008 issue of skydiving (in the "maybe you've heard" section on page 5), that brian has brough canopy manufacturing back 'in-house', although pd will still do service work on them. 22. i can't speak to how well the canopy will suit you, but i have about 250 jumps or so on my lotus 170 and i like it a lot. i load mine at 1.3, so you would probably find it more docile that i do! it's sabre-ish in shape (square front edge, elliptical trailing edge), handles nice, a little bumpy but very stable in turbulence. it can be a handful on windy days (after landing), but once you learn how to ground it and shake the air out of it, it's not much of a bother. it turns nice and has a good, powerful flair. mine is a little unpredictable on opening, but since it did that even when packed by brian himself, i'm leaning towards body position being the cause. not knowing you at all, but using the rule of thumb, a .83 wingloading would be considered conservative with your jump numbers. best bet is to talk to your instructors, then borrow it and jump it a few times. 23. i'm signed up. i don't have all my info yet, but i'll probably stay solo on account of a snoring thing i've been accused of. by my wife. who sleeps with ear plugs. edited to add: if anyone is looking to split a ride to/from the airport and to/from the course, i'd be interested in that. 24. i'll second that. i bought a mamba after trying on several others that just didn't feel quite right on my fat/oddly shaped head. i also like it for the visor security (stays down in any body position) and the fact i can change it out easily and cheaply. the visor itself has a carbon fibre frame so i'm not pulling directly on the visor. peripheral vision is great. the only gripe i have is that i have to remove one of the internal pads (velcro attachment) to install my audible. bottom line, try on a bunch and pick the one that feels right and has features you are comfortable with.
