Dropped frames.do you have answers?
nacmacfeegle replied to skychic68's topic in Photography and Video
"What about transfering video to PC via USB" USB is way too slow for full res minidv editing, plus very few cams have a USB (USB2?) connection that will spit out decent quality video. As for machine specs....I have produced two formal movies on a system with a PII 266 on Prem 4.2, though I dunno what the current minimum specs are for Prem 6. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Javelin Odissey - is it REALLY so COOL to WAIT 21 WEEKS!!!
nacmacfeegle replied to potikum's topic in Gear and Rigging
So you knew how long it would take to build when you ordered it, and its not late....Whats the beef? Of course it will be cool, nice comfy, and worth the wait, otherwise you wouldn't have ordered one. There are also huge seasonal variations in delivery times for gear, so do a search, I think Da Bytch posted a while back about this. If you order gear in deep midwinter you won't have to wait so long, if you order it 4 weeks before the boogie season gets underway....you may be hiring kit all summer. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Leonardo's Da Vinci parachute
nacmacfeegle replied to kyros1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"The guy who made the test jump, I have met him in Deland some 2 years ago. His name is Andre Jaque Garnal" Not Adrian Nicholas? Eccentric aviator, freeflier, and camera flier extraordinaire? There was an Andre Jacques Garnerin who made the first parachute decent from a balloon...but that was way before Deland, it was in 1797. The first ever parachute decent was by Louis Lenormand in 1783 who jumped first from a tree, then a high tower in Montpelier France. Are you sure you have your names right? -
"It's no suprise that Halliburton tried to cheat the government out of some money. " Apparently not, well, not over the fuel thing anyways. I am working for KBR/Halliburton just now, this in this morning. "FROM: Dave Lesar, chairman, president and CEO SUBJECT: Army Corps of Engineers grants Halliburton fuel waiver There is news in today’s Wall Street Journal that the head of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has “exonerated Halliburton Co. of any wrongdoing in a Kuwait fuel-delivery contract.” The Corps granted KBR a waiver of the requirement to obtain certified cost or pricing data from its subcontractor for importing fuel from Kuwait to Iraq. The story reinforces everything we have said about this situation. As the article summarizes, KBR’s actions in buying fuel from the sole Kuwaiti-approved supplier were proper, “since KBR could use no other gasoline provider, and couldn’t extract any financial information from Altanmia.” And the newspaper goes on to quote the Corps memo, saying Halliburton “is left with no option for providing these services from Kuwait other than to continue obtaining them from Altanmia.” You can read the whole story at: http://webreprints.djreprints.com/27187.html This is good news, and I wanted to bring it to your attention because we are not likely to get the same headlines as the original accusations. We should not expect the accusations to end, even though they have been refuted by the facts. Those who seek to advance their political agenda by attacking Halliburton will continue to do so. But I assure you, KBR will continue its work in support of the military and the Iraqi people, and we will continue to make the facts available to Halliburton employees and the public." "Jump without one. What's the point? Does the presence of it somehow diminish the dive?" No more than its presence enhances a dive. That said I used to jump with a guy who didn't use a Cypres, he felt it detracted from his sense of being master of his own destiny. 'Chaque un a son gout' as they say in France, or chuck in whats good. My opinion is, the only valid excuse for not jumping an AAD is financial as discussed above. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thanks Rob I didn't know that or even that they had a name. By the way I agree with you "Far better to spend the energy on cleaning your cables".

Seems like belt and braces to me....which is a great idea until you need a shit in a hurry...... Might be better value for money to design a wee dust cap that could seal the cable housings, and fit riser inserts, if its really that big an issue. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I need to look at deaths per event/exposure... not deaths per participant" This could be described as Probable Loss of Life and Individual Risk. PLL is normally a global number, which if applied to say jumping in the US would be an average number of deaths per year. Basic individual risk per jump would be the PLL divided by the number of jumps, as you describe. Pretty straightforward so far. Things get complex pretty quickly though. Factors need to be applied to account for visiting jumpers, seasonal variations, and oddball deaths (suicide, murder, aircraft crashes, etc). Furthermore, if you base your risk meters on jump numbers alone you do not get an accurate picture of the risk, eg a jumper who makes 1 jump per year would, on the face of it, be substantially less 'at risk' than one who made 1000 jumps per year. This would be true if all jumpers were exposed to the same type of risks. The only 'event' that equalizes across this type of analysis is equipment or aircraft failure. This is clearly not the case with jumping (the majority of skydiver deaths are, I believe attributable to human errors), so a currency/skill factor could be applied. Similarly other factors could be applied to cover things like equipment selection, wing loading, use of AAD, audible and analogue altimeters, camera jumping, jumping at a busy DZ, type of jumps preferred etc. In order to develop an accrate risk model, we would also need records of all injuries and near misses. This aspect is traditionally very poorly recorded, compared to say aviation or nuclear power generation etc. Pretty quickly, trying to define accurate quantified risk meters applicable to skydiving becomes quite farcical, therefore the only real way to risk assess this type of activity is to use qualified as opposed to quantified risk assessment. If you adopt a qualified risk approach, your mitigations against 'events' that might harm you will be based on adopting a reasonably practical approach. This means investing in things like decent reserves, altitude management devices, AADs, and extended continuous education without any sort of cost benefit analysis. It also means having personal rules covering the type of jumps you get involved in, weather conditions, and even DZ selection. At the end of the day nobody is arguing that skydiving is inherently hazardous. But 'how risky'...now thats another discussion altogether.

"if I placed it over the record sign exactly? or would the power be too low?" I don't know about power, but I doubt this would be practical, plus, you not be able to close the LCD screen. If I'm looking at the right cam? http://www.nomatica.co.uk/video/vpd190iEN.htm# Have you confidence in using the remote to power up the camera on jump run? Maybe fit a small pocket on your jumpsuit to keep the remote safe. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. A few regular things to try out. Go to the canopus site and download 'raptest', install it and check your hard drive read write speed. you should be sustaining at least 5mb/s http://www.canopus.com/US/products/free_utilities/pm_free_utilities.asp Google for 'enditall' use that to shutdown background applications. Make sure you are writing the captured files to a separate partition, or a different physical disc to your one housing your applications and o/s. Empty your recycle bins and defragment your storage hard drive. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Sory, can't help you with video wave, try the render as an AVI workaround, and re-import the clip to the timeline. Works for me and Premiere.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Archive everything, but more importantly I log all the shots so I can find them again. I don't do this compressing thing, I just trim out the bits I won't ever want and then log and seal up the minidv tapes. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Why so many jumps before one can fly camera?

"Surely I don't need 200 jumps for this? " You probably don't, I'm glad I don't make the BPA rules. -
"Any idea's anyone??. " Never had this problem but what I might be tempted to do would be to render the clip as slo-mo, then save as an AVI then import that into your project. Don't forget to 'unlink' the sound on the new clip. Rendering the slo mo separately gives more editing flexibility instead of re-rendering if you change say the in or out points. Slo mo-ing at the camcorder is probably not a great idea unless you are crash editing. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
