Hm, Americans aren't well liked by many Arabs...
nacmacfeegle replied to vonSanta's topic in The Bonfire
Och Faber, the Americans are just doing what the Danes did 1000 years ago. Protecting their trade routes, setting up new trading opportunites, and having some fun along the way. Folks, the rest of the world needs the US just as much as the US needs the rest of the world. The sooner everyone realises this, then the sooner we can all devote our energies to something more constructive. -
"not a big deal if you have your travel documents in order" Your government just made it a whole lot tougher, the plans to get rid of the visa waiver scheme for example are expected to put a big dent in your tourist income. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3378717.stm So, in the future, instead of filling out a form on the plane, UK peeps will have to go to London, have an interview, pay 70 quid per person....... I'm guessing I'm okay as I have a work permit for the US, but tourists will think twice about this. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Sorry Noob, it sounds like T Cut may help for some of the lighter scratches, but not the ones where lighter colured paint is showing. Next alternative might be to take it one of those 'Dent Devils' type places, and see if they can help or advise. Some cars have warranty issues, eg Beamers, Audis etc if you don't use an approved paintshop for this sort of thing. I'm assuming this isn't the case here. Don't just leave it as it is though, once all that salt and other winter shit gets in you'll have even bigger problems if rust gets started under the paint. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Is T Cut any good on stuff like this? " Fuckin' savages.... Probably not, a quick look should tell you...if you can see the primer or bare metal, then you are shit out of luck, and its a respray job for you. Depending on the age/manufacturer this could be expensive, or very expensive if done properly. Best bet would be to report it, and get the insurance forms out again. Sounds like more than 800 quid to me.. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I want to put the camera on a quick release instead of just using a bolt up through the bottom of the L bracket." Why? I find a big thumb screw works fine. Take a screw that fits the cam tripod socket, a water bottle cap and some epoxy. Cut a hole in the cap, pass the screw/bolt thru, and fill with epoxy et voila you have a screw that you can tighten etc with your fingers. If you want to get real smart you can put a locator dowel on the mounting plate to solve any alignment concerns. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Its pretty ugly stuff folks, so don't go moaning at me..... Edit to add... Dead Mike bust himself up at Quincy a few year's ago. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I take it your going to the AGM?" Not this year, its a good spree, but its a helluvva long drive from Aberdeen and worse driving the long road home, besides I have a prior arrangement with a pair of redheaded twin sisters. Its my nieces' second birthday. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "As for scary clubs, there's a place in Montrose I went to." Montrose can get a little rowdy (this is Montrose in Scotland, and not downtown Houston...right?). But its basically ok. I used work there during summer, Arbroath is a different matter all together. "Lots of people in there with thier faces painted with the Rangers colours." Thats never a good sign!

200 quid sounds steep for a firewire HD. I got a case, and two 80 gig drives at chrimbo for 100 quid, albeit in a sale. I'd go firewire, you can chain the camera directly on the end of the drive, your going to need a firewire interface for the camera anyways, why chew up another PCI slot and go through all that IRQ hassle?. For what its worth USB2 is fast enough for video editing, but not many cameras come with USB2 connectivity, nearly all come with firewire. Standard USB is useless for full frame, full resolution editing. You can get brand new firewire cases and pop in whatever drive or device (eg DVD burner) you feel like. If I were you I'd buy a bare case, then stick in about 80 gigs, sub 100 gig drives are cheap and plentiful as everybody else is upgrading to larger discs. In terms of storage, you'll get about four minutes per Gig, so an 80 gig drive will store 4 hours for you. Check out www.datavision.co.uk ADS do a nice external housing too. If you are a laptop user you may want to find a drive that could be powered from either the firewire output (big type connections) or via a USB line. PM me if need to chat any further, I've been using external drives for a couple of years.

"One of the balls is a Vladiball which deploys its parachute at 1500ft. where the wind is 40kt. Do the following balls hit it? Edited to say: Don't know what a Vladiball is? Check" Umm Vladiballs don't deploy their own parachutes, they dump their load of lead shot....... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Have you got a link or anything other than a rumour etc? There are a couple of issues that make this Snopes worthy. Firstly we are many decades from drilling Mars. Secondly, traditional drilling gear is extremely heavy. How are we going to get it there? Thirdly, geo surveys are normally required prior to deployment of drilling equipt. These surveys can only tell if there is liquid in the formations, not oil specific. Currently we don't know for sure if there is any liquid at all on Mars. Fourth, who allocates licences for mineral exploitation of a new planet? The US? Fifth, the real money will be in providing the pipeline. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. You could speak with Datavision on 01525 406886. They have ceased to develop their 'widget' line but may be in the mood to advise. Alternatively, you could google 'dv in enable' and see what there is out there. There are a couple of software based enablers. Be aware that if you in-enable your camera you may void any warranties. This whole sad situation came about because the EU import tax on cameras is different from recorders. Don't get get me started on this...grrr...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
