  1. And I weigh the cost of damage to the permafrost AS damage to humankind. Because I think in the long run humankind is better off having places like ANWR than having two SUV's in every driveway. Unfortunately, if we keep looking at it that way, we'll be caught off guard when we no longer have a choice. Besides, it's not REALLY a choice. In the long run, nature's costs ARE human costs. 2. How'd you know? I guess on ANWR, it depends on how much value you place on the things in the "loss" column. I see the loss of a pristine wilderness and habitat for countless species as a loss that far outweighs any potential gains (which are questionable in my mind, anyway). I'd much rather spend all the money that would be dedicated to opening/drilling the ANWR on developing renewable sources of energy that could become available to the general public at a lower cost than they are now. In other words, I prefer the long-term solution to our dependence on foreign oil. Call me what you will, but the standout issue and the reason I could never vote for Bush is his stance (or lack thereof) on the environment. Everyone has a hot button, this is mine, and I freely admit it. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. T2 said John Hoover and three new guys...don't know who though. I suppose it would be really easy for me to call my former teammate (now on Blade) and ask him. But I'm just that lazy. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. His plan for ANWR was just a symbol of the anti-environmental policies of the administration. Look who he chose for Secretary of the Interior. Look who he fired as EPA chair when she stopped toeing the party line of blatant hatred for anything other than big oil or other large commercial interests. You're seeing it near where you live because it's his national policy. As for ANWR...there's some oil there, true, but not enough to end our dependence on OPEC by far, and we wouldn't see it for at least another 10 years. Short term gains at the expense of long-term intelligence seems to be the hallmark of everything this administration does. 5. I have two. It makes training weekends run a lot smoother on both me and my packer. Plus if you want to do back-ups, it's an absolute necessity. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. LOL, me too. I'm sure they'll be up on the NSL site soon, right? Gordo, who is on AZ Directe? ETA: Scores are up now on the NSL site, meet story to come later. Actually, 8 AAA class teams is a good turnout for an SSL meet, especially one so early. Nice to see some of the CA teams out there, too. 8. John, did Mark Kirkby/Thomas Hughes compete with their team in 4-way? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  9. Sorry, I wasn't clear in my description. Somewhere it's all on video, but I didn't even think to get a copy of it. That is what I tried, but since it's a new rig and I clean the cables regularly, they aren't exactly easy to grip. I was doing RW, and I was wearing gloves. My hand slid along the cables, and I couldn't reach the pillow. Derek, I didn't have an RSL connected, and I'm glad. It adds a lot of scary scenarios to the "what might have been" list. As for deploying the main, it didn't even cross my mind. I was really lucky to be on a skydive with a group of heads-up people, including the camera flyer. It could have been a lot worse if not for them. Also, I'd like to add a shout out to Velocity Sports. I had a terminal reserve opening and my legs aren't even bruised, and I'm convinced it's because of my awesome Infinity leg straps. 10. Here's the hypothetical: You're ready to exit, you check your handles, and everything is good. The exit funnels, and by the time everyone gets back, you feel something flapping on your rig. You look, but you can't see what it is. One of your fellow jumpers points at you, then at her cutaway handle. You immediately know what's flapping around now. You're still around 6000 ft or so, but by this time you can feel the cutaway handle flapping around against the back of your rig. What do you do? **** Here's what I did when it happened to me this weekend. I reached for the cutaway handle once. I couldn't get it because it was basically behind me at that point. It was out enough that at least one of my three-rings would have been disconnected. Then I went to my reserve. Lost my freebag because I opened at 5000 ft above the ghetto at Perris and no one saw it. Afterward, there were some that questioned my decision to not cutaway first (as if I had a choice). Would you have spent more time trying to find the cutaway handle? I had NOT deployed my main. If you were in this situation and had been able to find the handle, would you have pulled it the rest of the way out? I'm pretty sure of my answer to the last question, but I was looking for other opinions. That was definitely a weird situation that I never hope to experience again! 11. So here I am at home, snowed in. Yay! I feel like a kid again. Well, not so much snowed in as afraid to go out because I don't want to get stuck anywhere else! It started snowing last night and it hasn't stopped. Pics are of our driveway and the picnic table in the front yard. It's still snowing! Liberal Arts

LOL, here's one for you. If you want to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in english or art or history (or any other liberal arts-type major), go to the Air Force Academy. Seriously. That's because EVERYONE has to take an intro class in each of the major engineering disciplines (civil, aero, astro, mechanical) as well as two physics ourse and at least two math courses. Not to mention a full year of chemistry and some biology, too. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  14. Oh, that rocks!! You would be perfect for that team. I would have been all over that if not for all the traveling. Good luck! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. oooh, I dunno about that Frikken girl. She's a little sketchy. Of course, I'm insanely jealous of my former teammate, so I can say that. Either way, it's a great chance to hop in the tunnel for a few minutes at a great price. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. Yes, it's the valentine's day meet. 4-way and 8-way. Should be a good number of people there! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. Argh...I see you! It's really a beautiful canopy. Maybe I'll just keep it for demos. 75 jumps. Still crispy. The lines are still white! Argh! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

    80s

Hmmm...maaayybee.... I did have sweater dresses, legwarmers, and jelly shoes. Though I'm not saying I wore all of those at the same time. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

    80s

Here you go...a "declaration of eighty-ness", so to speak. I love it. http://funnies.paco.to/ChildOfThe80s.html I, too, am a child of the eighties. I weep when I hear the "classic rock" station playing U2 and the Police. was it really that long ago? Am I really that old that my music is now considered "classic"? 23. Congratulations! "One night in Bagkok makes the tough guys crumble..." LOL...I hope no one...er...caught anything!! Congrats! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. I win! Well, depending on how you look at it. we're getting ~$15,000 back. I know we should adjust our withholding, but most of that is from deductions, so there was really no way to predict how much we'd have to deduct this year. All in all it's a wash, since we spent 4 times that on my hubby's racing last season. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. Anyone listen? what are your favorite stations? I would submit the greatest radio/internet station in the world, 97X WOXY FM, from Oxford, OH. www.woxy.com Now, don't go there if you don't appreciate truly alternative and truly independent radio. This is the station i grew up listening to and I can appreciate again thanks to the wonders of modern technology. Check out their raves from Rolling Stone and the like if you don't believe me. Any other good ones out there? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
