bwahaha! just saw this thread. D-18644 could be sold, I suppose, if you'd be willing to buy me a 3000 square foot house in Hermosa Beach, CA. Only $3.4 million! Come on, any takers? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

No. I'm assuming you are including all forms of motorcycle racing, in which case there are definitely more than 10000 people doing it, many of them small children. It's rare to see a death because of all the safety requirements... Part of the reson that insurance companies perceive (whatever...probably not the right word) motorcycle racing as less risky is the sheer number of rules and regulations the racing organizations have in regards to machines, safety equipment, race venue requirements, etc. If there were something in skydiving analogous to SNELL or a piece of safety gear that could act like a suit of 1/4 inch thick leather, the insurance companies might change their tunes. Now from personal experience, both my husband and I suffered serious injuries doing our hobbies last year (me-skydiving, him-motorcycle roadracing), so thank god we're in the military and covered. Both are risky, yes. Is skydiving more risky? Probably so. Unfortunately, I bet the only way to get insurance companies to lower their rates/provide coverage for skydivers is to regulate skydiving more and more, which most of us don't want. Again, I gotta ask, A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT? REALLY?
BikerBabe replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
oh boy. TS, I have something ofr you to read. read it all before you judge, please.: This is from a recent rally in Tucson. The rally was the kick-off to a new coalition of community members who are 1) fighting to defeat Federal Marriage Amendment and 2) building a grassroots movement of Arizonans to secure the Freedom to Marry for same-sex couples in Arizona. She pretty much sums it up. That's the kind of Christian I hope to be. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
That list is a fake. It's been around now for a couple of months, and no one can verify it. There are bases on there that would NEVER close, anyway. I could see them closing LA AFB, but since the decision won't be made until 2005, it probably won't actually close until around 2008 or so, long after I'm gone. Wingy, it's a space command acquisition base, mainly because of the proximity of major contractors like TRW, Raytheon, etc. Probably if you were a comm or intel troop you might have a shot at getting there... Oh, don't worry, I will defintiely make it a point to come out that way as often as possible. It's still my first real DZ! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

That's right, my fine feathered friends, the Air Force has decided to move the BikerBabe family to LA!!! We should be there sometime this summer. The Good: I'll be living in SoCal! The totally incredibly 100% awesome: I won't have to travel to jump at a turbine DZ! Nor will I have to travel to train 4-way! The not so great: LA Air Force Base is basically in South Central. So now the hunt is on for a decent place to live within reasonable driving distance.... I'm actually really really happy about this! YAY! LOL, I took those pictures months ago, and I have no idea what I was thinking when I named the files! Shoot, I was hoping no one would catch it. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

LOL, I know. I wish. I miss Spain a lot!! Don't worry, I'll go back. Nothing will keep me away! I have a new motivation, too...to show my husband the wonders of Spain! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I can't believe I can't find Fanta Limon here in the states. I swear, we have EVERY OTHER FLAVOR except that one. dammit. txacoli is the type of wine...not sure of which wineries make it, either. It's white and slightly fizzy. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Actually, Fanta Limon and a bottle of txacoli (a Basque wine). I would post in the Spanish forum, but since they only want posts pertaining to skydiving, I don't want to get in trouble! LouDiamond could kick my ass! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

OK, I need help. A favor, if you will. If you live in Spain (particularly in the northern part), please PM me. I'm having a serious craving for something I can't get in the US. Maybe you can help. Thanks! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I thought I already established why this wasn't the most feasible or prudent thing for me to do at the time. Guess I still wasn't clear. 1. Cutaway pillow on back. 2. Arm not long enough and won't bend that way. Ergo, cannot reach cutaway pillow. Corollary: Cannot get good enough grip on actual cables to pull cutaway, either. Best to go with the devil you know (reserve terminal opening) than the devil you don't (spinner on loaded elliptical with possibility of STILL not being able to find the cutaway pillow. Sigh. I don't know why I'm still arguing. Whatever. I guess there will always be another way, but what action you actually take depends very highly on the situation. Well, because it was out far enough to be hitting me on the back of my rig, but not out enough to disengage from me completely. Sure, I could have been wrong, but when one is falling at 120 mph and has precious few seconds to decide what to do, one doesn't try to form a doctoral dissertation on the relative probabilities of the likelyhood of one or both sides being cutaway already. I chose the worst-case possibility and went from there. ETA: The cutaway handle stayed with me upon opening, thank goodness. When I haad the time to look, the short cable was almost entirely out (about 1" left inside the housing). After opening (which upon reflection really wasn't that hard...maybe because I was braced for it) I found the pillow, pulled it the rest of the way out, and stowed it. No need to have it flopping around under canopy. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Thanks for all your responses. I posted this more to get people thinking about it, since I had never really thought about it before it happened to me. Now people have thought about it, so if it happens to you, you may have more options! As for dumping my main, I KNEW the cutaway cable was out enough to have cutaway at least one side of the canopy, and I DIDN'T know if I would be able to find the cutaway once I was under a violently spinning main (I jump a Jedei 105 loaded about 1.5). I did the right thing for me at the time. I wish I had the video to post. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Noice. Of course, I've seen it before. I can't believe I missed this thread. I loooooooove my infinity. I love it even more after my terminal reserve opening. I have no bruises, and I'm sure it's because of the cushy leg straps. Here's mine: Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

"There's Something About Mary" - just didn't find it that funny. Meh. NASCAR. Open wheel racing (both 2 and 4 wheels) is much more exciting and intelligent. "Friends" - sometimes it's mildly amusing, but nothing to rave about. Meh again. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup! -
ahhh...Warp Factor re-incarnated! As for me, something seems to be working out. Looks like myself and two others who tried out for Katalyst (Christopher Irwin's team) will be doing "Katalyst II" this year. We'll be training with him this year, then he's going to find us a fourth for Nationals. Then we'll be his main team next year. So a farm team, if you will. I'm really excited. Nice job for the first meet, by the way. Blade is looking good, too... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
