what made me really upset about this story was her comment that her mom was alive for a couple of days after the crash. WTFO???!! Where in the HELL was the CHP? The family? ANYONE with half a brain to notice that the guardrail was damaged and report it? That woman could be alive today if someone, just ONE person, had cared a little bit more. Shit, I'm moving there, too. Lovely. I've met Ms. Reno. She is an incredibly intelligent and articulate person. Who, by the way, manage to Run law enforcement in this country while dealing with Parkinson's Disease. You try it. If you can't find real criticisms of her, why not resort to the old standby of insulting her appearance? Yes, that will win an argument every time. So I'm curious, John, what's your opinion on this? Personally, I'm with Michael Townes. Whatever happened to the 4th amendment? Would this constitute an illegal search? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

We have Sirius (all channels have no commercials) and we have quickly become very dependent on it. It's like a drug. Can't go more than a day without it. Mainly because corporate radio sucks big hairy balls nowadays. Excuse the crass expression, but I can think of no other way to describe the level of suckitude that normal FM radio has reached. Weird (and slightly disturbing) website of the day!

Re: [Michele] JFTC ladies, please check in!
BikerBabe replied to MakeItHappen's topic in Speakers Corner
Has anyone arguing against this calendar even looked at the examples Michele posted? They are in the women's forum. Sorry, but those pictures don't seem like T&A to me. They are more like artistic photography. Look at them. They are truly beautiful. From the way these posts have gone, you'd think they were trying to make a "playmate of the month" type thing. It's not that at all. When I hear "T&A" I think "porn". When I see pictures like the ones Michele posted, I think "art". My hearth (faith) says morals come from God. However, my logical mind knows that morals can and will exist apart from the presence of a supreme "moral-giver", so to speak. As for this: Bah! Moral relativism is what is causing this society to degrade and lose it's grasp of reality. Not sure how we got over to this from science vs. religion. There is a fundamental flaw in the argument that there are no moral absolutes. Isn't what you are stating a "moral absolute"? if so, then you've already disproven yourself. Like saying "all generalizations are false". If morals are subjective, good! I tend to subject myself to the idea that there are absolute morals. See the problem with moral relativism? You can't disprove me. I'm right. (should I be a lawyer or what?) I go back to my original question. For those who think that science and religion cannot peacefully co-exist, what is science to you? Why do it? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

Once again, the Bible is not a science book. Your entire argument seems to be based on the idea that it is or should be used in such a manner. Please note what I said in my previous post: moral and scientific are not necessarily the same, though many don't seem to be able to separate them. Hmmm...sounds suspiciously similar to: Like I said, I believe that science is a God-given means to reveal the nature of God...You believe science is something else. So what, then, is science to you? Why? I mean, HOW is that idea "becoming increasingly contradicted by scientific advances"? LOL...what if God controlled those scientific advances? I believe the Bible was divinely inspired. It is still relevant (essential) as a moral document. But it was written down by MEN in a time when things were a lot different. See, to me, God is beyond true human comprehension. He always has been and always will be. Today, in the year 2004, we as a human population are more intellectually sophisticated than the ancient Hebrews were. I'm NOT saying we're more intelligent. I'm saying we have more tools at our disposal with which we can understand the universe. An example...the book of Genesis. I believe there is no possible way the ancient people of the Bible (before Abraham, so I mean the people who are today Jews and Muslims) could have remotely comprehended the true nature, the HOW, of God creating the universe. It's like trying to imagine "infinity", or "nothing." So he gave them a story. They wanted to know where they came from...who doesn't? He loves us, and didn't want to have out minds explode with divine knowledge...it's not for us to know. Much like parents trying to explain a grown-up concept to a child. They must put it in child-like terms. However, he also left it open to discovery. Science, if you will. He planned for us a rational, thinking mind that would naturally question and seek answers. Are we closer today than the ancient people were? Yes, I believe so. But I still believe there's no possible way we, in 2004, could comprehend the HOW of the creation of the universe. BUt we're getting there, and we're using science to do it. I believe science is a method for revealing God. I understand that I am not like most Christians in this, but my scientific background and education gives me this perspective. Here's a thought experiment: what WAS before the Big Bang? Was there anything there? Nothing? If nothing, where did all the material for the universe, all that energy, come from? What about the law of conservation of energy? Whenever I exit from that position...like when we take out a 12, for example, I like to think of hockey. Yes, hockey. Hip check!! Seriously, I think of hip-checking the OC/tail out the door. This way my hips leave first instead of my head, and I'm presented to the relative wind. Usually it helps my timing, as well. I also like having the IC give the count, especially when I (as a tail) am head jamming and can't see the OC as well. Every team I've jumped with has done it this way, with the IC giving a shake, then a hut, down, out style of count. The down on "set" is really important to me, since it allows me to spring-load if necessary, and unlock my head if in a head jam. You'll find something that works for you and your team, it just takes practice.

PCS to Albuquerque--Need DZ info
BikerBabe replied to DrunkMonkey's topic in Events & Places to Jump
HI! I'm stationed at Kirtland right now, but I'll be moving to LA this summer. Skydive New Mexico in Belen is the closest place. Eloy is about 7 hours away. If you happen to be in ABQ visiting before you move, come out to our weekly happy hour gathering at a place called the Monte Vista Fire Station...15 cent wings, beer, and lots of exaggerated skydiving stories...been doing that for years. We're a small club, currently with a 182 that climbs to altitude in 25 min (it's had some mods...). Yes, we'e small, but I've made friends for life since I've been here, and if you've never experienced a small DZ atmosphere, you're missing out...at least the social aspects. Anyway, If you need anything, or any help looking for a place to live, PM me and I'd be more than willing to give you a hand! I used to buy into the whole "you can't be a religious scientist" line. Now that I'm a Christian, I know that's ridiculous. My belief is that God wouldn't have given us a rational mind and the ability to think for ourselves if he didn't want us to use it! Science is the human way to reveal understanding of God and his amazing world, IMHO. I alsways shake my head at debates about this. Science is science and faith is faith... And THAT is why I'll never buy anything but a Big Air canopy ever again.

I definitely draw the line at Tandem. I'm a smaller gal, and though I know in my head that I could probably do it, I would never trust myself 100%, especially with a 6'0" 200 lb student. And I think to do tandems safely and well, you have to be confident in your abilities. I probably won't do video, but AFF and coaching definitely. Youch. This seems to be turning friends into enemies just over a simple forum. That's bad. That being said, as a member of a bunch of other message boards on various subjects, the common thread throughout every single one is a "junk" or "off-topic" forum. It is an essential part of any message board. Not having probably will end up making the greenies' jobs HARDER in the end, since the topical forums will need constant moderation to keep the junk topics out. My suggestion is to set up a way to automatically archive older threads from TB. That way they aren't deleted, but they are moved to an "archive" forum and locked. One of the boards I'm on actually has code that sends old threads to a separate place if they haven't had a new post in 7 days, leaves it open, but moves it back if someone chooses to post in it past the 7-day point. [tongue in cheek] I found another reason to bring Talk Back back....the repost police are starting to invade the other forums! I HATE the repost police! Please bring back TB so they can go back there! [/tongue in cheek] But seriously, I agree that the TB was getting out of hand and taking a break from it was probably a good thing. I'm don't post in there too much, anyway. That being said, with TB gone, a lot more posts are appearing in the topical forums...looks like closing it actually HELPED the topical forums. Which means more people are talking about skydiving than boobies...and that's a good thing, right? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

oh, don't worry, the down side is that it's friggin' expensive as all get-out. And for those of you who don't want PC's competing for Advanced class medals (I'm one of those, too), we'll be guests. Our non-US-citizen member keeps me from having to deal with a tough moral dilemma. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

18 is one of my favorites, mainly because it just looks cool! Last year, we did it with the centers crossing first, and it worked really well. This year I'm doing it the Airspeed way since, well, I'm jumping with a former Airspeed member. I'm learning a lot of new things this year! For example, our continuity plan this year has the BACK piece taking all of the slot switchers...whoa. But there's a reason for that, and I'm kind of excited about it! How was that being cynical? I was just pointing out a fact. I said I loved the movies, didn't I? As for Viggo being the actor...the original post seemed to be talking about the creator of the books, so I mentioned the creators of the movie. meh. Feeling snarky today. LOL...if you're thinking of the following: 1. Aragorn falling off the cliff attached to the Warg, 2. Denethor falling off of Minis Tirith, flaming, 3. Frodo ALMOST falling into the Cracks of Doom Then it wouldn't be Tolkien who would be a BASE jumper...it would be Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, or Phillipa Boyens. All three of those were added for cinematic purposes and weren't in the original books. I'm not judging that, BTW. I think the movies were wonderful adaptations, and unlike some fanatical purists, I understand that movies and books are two differnt media that have different requirements for greatness... Here's an idea. read the books! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
