  1. Yay! Congrats and have fun. Remember, all those cars are trying to kill you... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. I won't be out there permanently until sometime in July. The wind tunnel got some new clothes this week, according to a little birdie I know. Should look very stylish the next time you visit! another bonus! I just got a PM from the person holding D-18643...how cool is that? 3. For two reasons. I can't decide which is more important, though... 1. It's my 10th SKYBIRTHDAY! 10 years ago on 8 June 1994, I strapped on a T-10 with a chest mount reserve, stood in the door, and freefell alone for 7.8 sec (it was supposed to be ten, but I counted too fast), pulled the ripcord, and decided that I absolutely had to continue doing this, no matter what the cost. 2. It's my last day in uniform!!!! w00t! Well, at least, I'm starting terminal leave today. I'm officially out 30 June, but no more working for me (at least until I find a new job). I have my final outprocessing briefing at 1 pm, then I'm heading to Vegas, baby!!! Vegas for a wedding (the one you Perrisites know about!) then out to Perris for 9 days of 8-way fun! YAYAYAYAY!!!!!! 4. Yes, they can. My parents did. Alcohol was No Big Deal in our home. We were raised knowing there was nothing special about alcohol, and as a result, not a single one of my parents' kids ever got into any sort of trouble with underage drinking, binging, etc. At least, this attitude of education rather than vilification helped a lot...though I'm sure the rest of our upbringing (morals, values, etc) had something to do with it, too. Take away the forbidden aspect of drinking, and I think we'd have a lot fewer problems. My vote is for no such thing as a "drinking age". 5. Funny you should ask. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=923757;search_string=bikerbabe;#923757 Interestingly enough, it was NOT the D-ring on mine that came loose, it was the cutaway pillow. I don't believe this was a gear issue, however...just an exit gone wrong. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. Dammit Lew, you can run? grrr. I'm pissed that they put mine in through my knee, because my knee is still f$(*ed up. I can run for short distances, but it still hurts my knee and where the two screws are near the joint. I'm sick of the stupid elliptical trainer...I need to be able to run! 7. I totally know what you mean. We trained last weekend, and after the first couple of jumps, we were feeling good. So we decided to count points. Imagine the day-long high we got when we found ourselves turning above 15 in time on several different skydives...not drill dives, either! Then we started timing blocks, which is something our coach normally wouldn't do until much later in the season... We were eating dinner that night and we allowed ourselves to look at each other and say: you know, we're not half bad!! We were all buying each other beer, since none of us (well, except our PC) had ever turned a 20 in time before. What a gas!! It's not arrogance, it's just there comes a time when it hits you that maybe all that money and time you've spent is paying off. We've set a new goal for ourselves. Now that we know we can do it, we just have to be more consistent. No matter what level you're at, those "breakthrough" moments are definitely the fuel that keeps you going! 8. wait, I'M a bad influence??? ;) Watch out for that GraficO guy...he's trouble, too. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  9. I wear an Oxygn A3, and I have contacts. I have no problem. The amount of wind I feel inside the face shield is about the same as if I were standing outside in about 10 kts of wind. I think factory divers let a little more in than that, since there is a larger space at the bottom of that face shield. I would demo as many as possible and see which one works best for you. 10. err....you know I'm here, at least until the first weekend of July or so. I think some of the others check in occasionally. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  11. God, I just talked to Todd on Thursday, when he was late getting to the DZ because he had to find a new rim for his wife's car. Todd and Angela, you're in my prayers! Fight hard and I'll see you again soon! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  12. Can't. help. self...must...correct...argh! moral - Of or concerned with the judgment of the goodness or badness of human action and character: moral scrutiny; a moral quandary. morale (with an e) - how the troops are feeling, the atmosphere of the group or unit. I think conscription costs morale, money, and lives. We're long past the point in history where wars are solely attrition-based. If we needed cannon fodder, we'd have a draft. I don't think there will ever be a war from now on where we need cannon fodder. Sorry for the crudeness of term, but thats often what conscripts have been considered in the past, i.e. expendable. 13. well...I will see you memorial day, right? When I do finally make the drive to CA, I will definitely stop in Eloy for a couple of days. I don't care how hot it will be! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  14. that would be cool, but it's a weekday, and I won't be near a DZ that flies on weekdays. Unless I pay them a hell of a lot more money than I have. I may be able to do it at the memorial day boogie in Perris, though! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. Today at 3:19 pm mountain daylight time, I received my approval to separate from the Air Force! Yay me! Now you all go have a beer on me. My last day of wearing the uniform will be June 11th, which, coincidentally, is 3 days after my 10th sky-birthday...So I'll be doing a lot of partying. I'm proud to have served, but I am so ready to move on with my life. I'll be able to join my hubby in LA earlier than I thought, which is awesome, too. So I'll be in Cali permanently in July! 16. Ugh. Do you have any idea what you just said? Considering that his time is the very least of what he sacrificed, yes. Go rent (borrow, find, whatever) the movie "Return With Honor." Or read a book like "Into the Mouth of the Cat" (biography of Lance Sijan), or "The Passing of the Night" (Autobiography of Robbie Risner) or some other biography of a Vietnam POW besides McCain. Sorry, when someone makes a statement like the one I quoted, it tends to knock their credibility down a notch for me. It shows me that they have no idea what being a POW in Vietnam was like. And people think the shit shown in the Iraq prison photos is cruel. I have a feeling that almost 100% of people who have fought in Vietnam or any other conflict would say, yes, it's a hell of a lot more so. Ask them. 17. Sorry, but anyone who can look me in the eye and say that for over five years in hell he truly lived by this... ...will never be a "farce" in my book. There was post on here a few days ago asking if a leader was someone who swayed with public opinion or someone who did what was right. I know where I'd put Mr. McCain...how about you? I may not always agree with his opinions, but at least he stands by them, party be damned. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  18. Yes, I'm quite sure that Dennis Hastert understands the concept of sacrifice MUCH more than John McCain. Gor rent "Return With Honor", Mr. Hastert, then shut the fuck up. I, too, like John McCain, even if I disagree with him sometimes. In this case, however, I don't (disagree). I'm in the military...I've seen what the "fiscal responsibility" of the current administration is doing. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  19. But what does that mean? What is the "right thing"? See, that's why we have elections. If more people think a certain thing is "right", theoretically, the person running for office that also thinks that thing is "right" will get elected. So if the system is working correctly, your first two poll choices should be the exact same thing! Of course, that's assuming the system works correctly. Meaning, voting processes aren't flawed, the electorate makes an effort to educate themselves on what the candidates think is "right", and the candidates themselves stick by it once elected. Unfortunately, I think none of those things happen. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  20. we got an XBox on Friday. I haven't posted anything since because I've been sucked into the black hole of time wasting that is this piece of Microsoft devilry. Damn you Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic! Damn you Halo! Damn you Microsoft! How am I supposed to get anything done now? Other good games I should consider? Don't say Morrowind...already own it for PC. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  21. Here in Albuquerque we have Eclipse Aviation, a new up and coming company that's building a small business jet that will cost less than $1M. It's probably a lower cost of living here, too. We have lots of mountains here, too. I live in them. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. And people wonder why hybrid or fuel efficient cars aren't more popular. With crazy crap like this on the books, what incentive is there to get a more fuel-efficient vehicle? I say if you have to buy this thing, you should be exempt from fuel tax at the pump. Isn't this taxing a hybrid car owner twice for the same thing? The governement should be giving tax BREAKS to people who own these vehicles, like the feds do. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  23. Unfortunately, I do have to work for a living. Skydiving and good music go hand in hand. So I'm not allowed to mourn the loss of one of the few sources of truly alternative music anywhere in the world? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. So post a pic! I saw them in the morning at Perris, and they are sharp! Yes, Adam is da man! It's easier to ask him who he DOESN'T design for... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. LOL, that sounds like a bad urban legend if I ever heard one. mpg of ANY car depends greatly on how it's driven, Hybrid or no. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
