  1. Here's a start. tailor it for AFF rather than FS, though. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/articles/Visualizing.shtml Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. LOL, actually, I'm *considering* going to law school when I get out of the prison that is the Air Force. Think they'd take someone with 2 engineering degrees? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. Not a lawyer, but from lawrocket's description above, I would say the answer to your question is YES. Is there anything in California law that specifically prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation? I dunno, I don't live there. But if there isn't, I don't see how opening a "straight-only" retirement home could be considered illegal, as much as that sucks. Public scrutiny is another matter, however Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. Um, actually, I think this is the entire crux of the problem. See, the anti-discrimination laws DON'T include sexual orientation. Creed, gender, race, etc, yes. Sexual orientation, no. This is the very thing that gays are fighting for...the protection of the law AGAINST discrimination. They want those laws to read how you typed it. Ironically, if the law DID include sexual orientation, this retirment home probably would be considered illegal. An interesrting legal conundrum. In many states it's perfectly legal to evict someone from their apartment, deny them a job, or even not allow them to enter an establishment because they are gay. 5. Yay! Way to go Bets...pretty darn good scores for your first time! I just read Missy's tidbits over on Omniskore...crap, now we have to watch out for Alchemy in 4-way! Actually, I think that's pretty cool. http://www.omniskore.com/comp/2003/nats/tidbits_23_ae.htm Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. Yep, and I think it's absolutely AWESOME that they competed in ADVANCED 4-way. There is nothing wrong with where they placed, and their average was damned good for not training 4-way, and being handed a reasonably difficult draw. It's like when Neil Houston and Craig Girard compete in freefly. They don't get anywhere near the medals, but they do it because competition is FUN and rewarding. Please don't laugh at anyone's placing...it's the fact that they came out to play that matters. I wish more dz.commers would give competition a try. It's really a blast! 7. Way to go everyone! I had to leave early but I got to see most of the excitement! Let me just say that my team did AWESOME! I wish I could have been jumping. Yay Audacity! Now onto 8-way. Go Prime-8!!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  8. I can't answer your post, because under the OLD old rules, an A license wasn't required, and I don't have one. Back then, you did AFF or Static Line, you got off student status whenever you passed your levels, then as soon as you got 20 jumps, passed the written test, and met the BSR requirements of accuracy, you could apply for an A. There was no card to fill out. I have a B and a D, and that's it. And I didn't have to pay for the A or C, either. 9. Well, my jedei is/was the first HP canopy I jumped that I wasn't "afraid of". Very easy to fly and incredibly stable. Thanks Grafico (and Chuck Karchers for having such a wonderful canopy made for you)! It really is revolutionary that they were able to design a more rigid wing (good) that still performs as well as it does. As an aero engineer, I can appreciate and marvel at the design of these canopies...You can be as conservative or as daring as you want on these. I feel 100% confident on the Jedei in higher winds and since I do most of my jumping in New Mexico and Arizona, I'm confident around the weird air, as well. Don't let it fool you though. These are high performance canopies (at least the Samurai) that can bite you if you make a mistake. My Jedei was plenty fast to allow me to break my femur! I got a little TOO daring... 10. I'll be there! Track down "Audacity" and say hi. We'll be in the advanced class. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  11. If anyone has ever thought: "there's NO WAY you could put a student out for an unassisted freefall, alone, on their first jump!" You should watch this show. They can, and they do. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  12. I would really really appreciate it if someone who has cable would be willing to tape this for me. we live out in the boonies and cable isn't an option. please PM me if you are willing to help me out. Thanks! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  13. LOL, John, I suspect that is where a lot of it will be going, especially since I'm semi-broken (I think the tunnel is do-able)! Hell, those kids already get a significant percentage of my income, anyway, this own't be any different! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  14. Um, OK, so I got a little bonus. So now I have this *thing* sitting in my bank account, begging to go somewhere else. what would you do? Taxes have already been taken out. I know I should be responsible, but the tunnel and the holiday boogie are calling my name... argh! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. why not try to learn 4-way? I mean, really good, fast, rockin' 4-way. You laugh, but I've seen many a freeflyer get flung around the sky by an Airspeeder or two, and they come down saying how incredible it was. Or, stick with the newbies. Pretty soon, they won't be so new anymore. Nothing says you have to leave your DZ altogether to find good coaching. Come to the Xmas boogie at eloy and get FF coaching. Go to Rantoul, etc. Try the tunnel with it's new high-speed engines. One of the cool things about getting coaching elsewhere is you get to bring all these great new ideas home with you. Then you can show other people, they'll get better, and it will grow. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. I think it's interesting that most of the people I jump with and the full time skydivers I know are left-leaners. Like my whole team is pretty liberal (with the exception of our camera flyer). However, the majority of folks on here are right-leaners. Perhaps it has something to do with the demographics of the skydivers who are most likely to post on a message board, rather than skydivers in general. I wonder if you went to a big DZ where there is a population of weekend jumpers and a population of full-time skydivers, you'd find more left-leaning people. 17. LOL, the thread title reminded me of the most extreme funnel I've ever seen. It was quite incredible. One of my friends was filming a pick-up 8-way team at Nationals last year. She was a little bit late off the plane, and caught the burble, and came down on the tail flyer. On the video, you can watch the ENTIRE 8-way, still all with grips, flip upside down. It was spectacular!!!! So spectacular, in fact that, the judges kept rewinding and playing, in slow motion, the entire thing. I've never seen anything like it. 18. oh, I am soooo gonna reign! I'll have all the time in the world to practice, while all you other weenies are out jumping and stuff. Gordo, watch out. I'm comin' to get you! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  19. yes. I use them under my plain old Neumann football gloves in the winter...works like a charm. That way I can still have all the grip I need for doing 4-way, and my hands don't freeze. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  20. heh...but have any of you ever made Dr. Laura CRY? I have! neener neener neener! (Ok, they were good tears, but I usually don't mention that part...) Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  21. LOL Craig's a sweetie. Well folks, due to circumstances beyond my control, it looks like we MAY be postponing our vacation to Oz/NZ and coming to Eloy again this year!!!! It all depends on how my hubby's recovery is going. So vibes for him, because the better he feels, the better chance we'll be there! So put me on the maybe list.... Woohoo! How about Alvin, Simon, and Theodore? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. Another note for those who may not know: The draw for 4-way this year is on SATURDAY night. I just found this out myself. This will allow teams to jump on Saturday, register, etc. Meaning, we can go to the tunnel at 5 am on Saturday LOL Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  23. LOL, I didn't know either, since in most previous years it's been on Friday night. Hey! We're not cheaters!!! I just have this mental picture of me hopping in the tunnel with my atrophied leg and spinning like a top, or a 2-jump student! Ack!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. Actually, the draw this year is on Saturday night. Saturday is for practice jumps, registration and the like. Weird, I know, but we double and triple checked. Actually, it makes a lot of sense, so folks who want to work on Friday can still get there in time to register, etc. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. Can I just say how lucky I am? The only one on here is FrikkenSkydiver, but she won't see this because she's either in training at the tunnel or lying around in pain. You guys rock! Know what they did? Somehow, someway, they managed to get us an hour of tunnel time the Saturday morning before Nationals (the 18th)!!!!! Woohoo! Now our alternate can fly with the others (In case I decide not to jump), and I can get in there and see if I've got some weird uncontrollable spins going on because of my smaller leg. Sorry for the random post, but I had to say it. My teammates ROCK!!!! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
