  1. Well, they're giving us money to develop means of protection, so I should probably find a euphamism for "fucking pain in the ass". I am the program manager here. Hopefully this will be the start of a beautiful relationship. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  2. Another that is now BANNED by my stupid fucking firewall at work as "Humor, Mature". Fuck! DZ.com is gonna be next, I just know it. Then I'll be up shit creek. ***please note my use of extreme profanity in this post is not meant to offend, but to make a fucking point. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  3. Funnily enough, I get to meet with the chief scientists of the FAA and TSA tomorrow for work. The subject? Threats to civil aviation!!! HA! Sorry, after all the trouble with the TSA and sport rigs, I find this quite humorous. Should I bring in my rig? LOL. Anyone want me to tell them anything? Remember, these are supposedly people with technical backgrounds. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. Well, there will be no "Scouring of the Shire" (if you're a true LOTR nerd, you know what I'm talking about) But they DID film the Grey Havens. My fervent hope is that Eowyn plays the same role as she did in the book... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  5. Well, see, we gots this little problem in New Mexico. We ain't got no water!!!! Consequently, we ain't got no grass. It doesn't grow naturally, and growing it takes TONS of water. We're good citizens, and the farmers, kids, random people on the street, etc need it a lot more than we do. Feel the love people. At least at this new one we have the CHANCE to grow grass (maybe sometime in the future when we're not in a severe drought) because it's close enough to civilization to get water to it. Our other one there was never any chance! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  6. Just goes to prove that where there's a will there's a way. Thanks to lots of hard work on the part of some of our board and club members, Skydive New Mexico overcame (at least for a "trial period") extreme opposition from the city and airport commission and got our landing area moved from 3 miles away from our loading area to just about a kilometer away. The picture is the new landing area. You can faintly see the circle. Yeah it's no Eloy, but to us it's heaven! When the city said no way you're landing on airport property, we talked to the owner of the land just south of the airport, who happens to like us. She graciously allowed us to plow up some of her dirt, bury some dead cows, and put up flags so we could be closer to our hangar. Who knows, we may even be able to grow grass in the future (no water out where were previously). This will greatly increase our load turnaround time, thus increasing our capacity. For all you small DZ's out there who are fighting "the man" on airport access issues, think outside the box, and it may happen for you. Talk to your local FAA rep. compromise in any way possible with your airport owner/city. It CAN happen! YAY! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  7. I believe it was a funding problem (it always is) Last I heard, they actually had a signed agreement with the Native Americans to build on their land, near the big casino/Firebird speedway in Chandler. Dunno if that changed or not. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  8. Military: conform, keep your mouth shut, keep your opinions to yourself, don't stick your neck out. Clark as NATO: Pushed for what he thought was right, expressed his opinions, didn't conform. Oh yeah, and he also won a war with ZERO (thats, 0, none, zip) US deaths. Why was he fired? Yeah, made a bad political decision when he met with a Serbian warlord, but hindsight is 20/20. Naw, he was fired because he spoke his mind and fought (probably too hard) for what he thought was right. My opinion: The military doesn't like Clark because he's a democrat. It's like he became a traitor, sympathizing with the commie-pinko liberal enemy. (yes, my tongue is in my cheek). Deep down, I think that's what it is. 9. goddamit! My stupid firewall is getting worse every day! God forbid dz.com gets classified as a "humor, mature" site. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  10. Call me crazy, but I'd be willing to bet that Shelton is NOT a democrat nor a liberal. The vast majority of military and ex-military people are not (at least not anymore). I'm the only democrat among the 50 officers I work with. Interesting that according to some, Clark handled Kosovo well, and the real reason he was fired (By COHEN, a Republican) was because he was too outspoken. God forbid. IMHO, Clark shouldn't be worrying about getting votes out of the military. Dems never get a lot of military votes. And the negative stuff right now is all coming from the military. I'd bet part of the reason is that the conservative military doesn't want to give the impression that a democrat (the horror!) is "representing" them. It's like he's a black sheep. How could a military man who made it so high POSSIBLY be a Democrat??? It's unthinkable! Clark should be worrying about Hispanics, the South, and moderates who voted for Bush in 2000 but are getting fed up with the current policies and the war. And he should be solidifying his domestic policies. Certainly looks better to me right now than any of the other 9. Hi. Why don't you give Big Air a call and ask them about demo options? I jump a jedei (when I'm not broken) and my next canopy (when I fly holes into this one) will probably be a Big Air product. I love the air locks, the design, and the customer service. Just give them a call and see what they can do for you. 13. Thanks everyone. Just a little update. I think God doesn't want us going to Australia. Turns out his injury is pretty serious, and will take 6-8 months to heal. And he'll probably never have full range of motion in his ankle. the fibula is broken and the two halves are overlapping now, he fractured the tibia, has a small fracture in his ankle bone, but the worst is he shattered the bone that is right beneath the tib-fib in the ankle (have no idea what it's called) and the pieces are floating everywhere in there. He'll probably have to have some of his ankle bones fused in the future, but they are going to start with an external fixation to put the long bones back in place. So he's in for at least two surgeries and wearing a star-trek-looking brace with pins into his leg for a while. More vibes needed than ever, I guess. 14. D-18644 I'm now 28, started jumping when I was 18. I think I got my D in 1996 sometime. Curiously enough, I've met one person with a number close to mine, Keith Snyder, the US national skysurf champion...his is D-18630. Anyone met and/or jumped with the holder of athe number right before or right after yours? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. OK, so you all know I broke my femur a month ago. So Saturday, I get a call from BikerDude (my motorcycle racing hubby), and guess what? He broke his tibia, fibula, and two bones in his ankle on saturday. After you're finished laughing at the mental picture of the two of us gimping around the house together (don't worry, I laughed...), please send some vibes/prayers our way...it's going to be a tough couple of months. Not just for healing, either. I'm pretty upset about this, since it's been just over a year since he broke both ankles. This will probably be the 2nd year in a row that his injury will keep us from our big vacation that we've been planning for 2 years...So I'm depressed/angry right now, too. Thanks y'all. 16. LOL, note the URL. The army could give a rat's ass about anyone but their people, and it's an army article for an army publication. Nice nod to Stacie and the AF, though. Now...if I could just figure out how to get the AF to sponsor a 4-way team.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  17. I'd vote for him. Honestly, once he announces and lays out a platform, he may be the only dem who has a chance of beating Bush this time. With his background, he's probably slightly more conservative (or at least moderate) than most of the other 9...trust me, I know what it means to be a democrat in the military. If anything, he's learned how to effectively handle criticism and arguments from the right. I've heard him speak (when he was still a general)...he has an amazing presence. One of those people that walks into a room and commands attention and respect. Don't discount the charisma factor when analyzing a candidate...any candidate. 19. LOL...don't femur on the first jump of the class! I can only say this because I just did it, and boy am I embarrassed. I don't know if I can ever go back to finish. Seriously, though, don't get any performance anxiety! Just do what you normally do and listen to what they say. I got it in my head that I had to "do it right" since there was a camera on me and a much more experienced person watching, and it bit me in the ass. I ended up overcompensating for what I know I had been doing wrong, and I hit a little too hard for my body to handle. I should have expected it, since I know it's part of my personality to be a perfectionist when others are watching, but I didn't listen to myself. Listen to the instructors, and be a sponge. The most coachable people are the ones who will do what the coach says and listen hard. Good luck and have fun! 20. I'm waiting. LOL, I just re-read LOTR, since I have nothing else to do. It's only baout the 100th time... I got the first Extended edition, and I'm waiting for the Two Towers EE, as well. 45 minutes more movie! yay! More Faramir! Ok, I'm a geek. 21. I had an article published in the "My Turn" column in Newsweek magazine. About a week later, Dr. Laura (who was still respectable at that time, and still on radio only) read my article on her show. It made her cry. I made Dr. Laura cry!!! 22. I had an interesting experience a few weeks ago at my home DZ, where we have a 182. We had a girl visiting from the Ranch, where she had just graduated AFF but was still on student status. We worked it out that I would jump with her, and we got to talking about the plane and the exit. She could NOT believe that all she had to do was climb out on the step and just let go, that she'd already be in the relative wind in a good body position, and that she wouldn't have to jump sideways (like in an AFF poised exit from an otter) or turn, like a floater exit from an otter. When we got on the ground, she kept telling me how much she like exiting the cessna...it was so easy. She is a smaller girl, so I can imagine how a floater exit would be a gymnastic move for her. 182's certainly put a student in the right body position from the get-go! 23. LOL, I don't download, either. Why? I guess because I'm hopelessly trapped in the 20th century. 1. No MP3 player besides Windows Media on my computer. 2. Dial-up connection (heh, one song every 3 hours. Yeah!) 3. I just don't find myself listening to CDs all that often. So do I get a new rig, too? 24. 1. Low 90 degree turn. I was taking the canopy control course out at Perris and definitely had the "I've got to do this right" attitude going on. The vast majority of my turns had been too high in the past to maximize the landing performance of my canopy, so I'd lose the benefit of the turn and have to come in on double fronts anyway. So This time I over-compensated by a few feet (probably about 10 feet or so too low...otherwise I wouldn't be here). I was already flaring when I hit, but it was too late. Hit on my knees, took one small bounce, then stopped. Looking back, if I had just done what I normally did on landing, I would have been fine. 2. Canopy: Jedei 105 3. Wingload: ~1.5 (maybe slightly less) 4. Experience: 200 jumps on this canopy, 835 jumps total. 5. Damage: broken right femur, mid-shaft. 6. Don't have the bills yet.... 7. Ask me again in a few months... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. I was just in the same hospital, and while I didn't get down to see Eric, I made sure to send him the flowers I'd gotten, since I couldn't take them with me and I dind't want them to be thrown away. Everyone was asking if I knew him, which I don't, but I knew of him from here. All the nurses were pretty positive about his recovery. Good vibes to Eric!
