  1. Did you read the article I posted? I thought that explained pretty eloquently why they DO feel threatened. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. Salon.com has published an opinion piece which I think comes close to explaining why taking the god reference out of the Pledge of Allegiance might be a good thing. An intersting excertp: " I think the real reason for the outrage at the thought of taking the words out is that most believers are furious that some people are offended by being instructed to utter the simplest, most basic tenet of their belief." 3. I frequently do hop & pops on my stiletto. I hearing the ruffle of the fabric, for some reason that just seems too cool. I don't have very unpredictable openings. While they do take a longer amount of time then usual, they tend to use up about the same, if not less altitude then a terminal opening. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Nice! What size? I almost bought a heatwave a while ago... boy can they turn quickly. BTW - bought the plane ticket yesterday.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. Not quite. You want to fall at least a bit away from the plane before you deploy so you won't entangle with the tail. Being in the "prob blast" implies that you're directly behind the prop, which would be a BAD place to pull. Pulling "on the hill" does mean that you pull after jumping, but while the wind is predominantly still in the horizontal direction, from the speed of the plane. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  8. Just out of curiosity, hangers are usualy used to store planes, and tend to be close to runways. In what case would the hanger be at a different altitude then the runway? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. I get end-cell closure on my Stiletto loaded at 1.5ish once in a while. They really don't bother me because they're part of the nice slow openings that I like. I usually have to do a turn or two to get myself back to the DZ, and those turns will usually get the cells open again. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Aerodyne teaches that on their packing video. The biggest advantage is that you can do it while lieing on the canopy, you don't need to remember to do it beforehand. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. Uncontrolled airspace means exactly what you think it does. Jumpships neither give notice of take-offs or landings, not do really have any interaction with a tower while in un-controlled airspace. It's the big-sky theory at it's best (or worse). Interestingly, Skydive Gananoque (the place where Frankenotter broke) is in uncontrolled airpsace. I do wonder if this means they can legally jump through clouds... In addition to the controlled-airspace regulation, jumping through clouds is also prohibited over Built-up areas or open air assemblies of persons - meaning demo's. This of course brings to mind the opening ceremony for the Skydome in Toronto in the early 90's, where skydivers jumped into the domed stadium in heavy rain, landing in on an astro-turf field that didn't have any drainage. There was an estimated 4 inches of standing water on the astro-turf. Their landings were spectacular. The crowd loved it... Fortunately there was only one broken leg. SkyDome is not only in a build-up area, it's also about a half mile from Toronto City Center airport (YTZ). _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. Jimbo is right. What they're trying to say is that you must turn it off, then back on, adjusting for altitude deviation at the departure airfield, meaning the takeoff elevation. You can only adjust for altitude deviations during the power-up cycle. After every landing and trip back to the take-off altitude, you must turn it off then turn it back on adjusting the unit during the power-on cycle. If you turn it on at the landing area, it WILL sense the altitude change as you head back to the take-off altitude. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Never mind the $2000+ worth of hardware so many of us have bolted to it... It's really amazing how many people just hold onto their camera-gear on takeoff. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I wear a fullface on certain RW jumps, if I think it's going to be combat-rw. Otherwise I'll wear my open-face with camera. I never wear a frap hat. Anyways, my point: Our very own Vallerina usually wears a frap-hat. One day a bunch of dz.com'ers decided to put togeather a 10 way with really low experience, so Val rightly decides to put on her Z-1. On one of her first Otter exits, she runs straight into the inside pole, cracking her lense. My first reaction was that she was lucky she had the Z-1, otherwise she would've broken her nose. Her response was that had she been wearing her frap-hat, she would've seen the bar and missed it all togeather. What's my point? I dunno. It's rare that I have a good one, anyway. I will say tha there's trade-offs between every kind of head protection. I would say that if you really like your frap-hat, maybe skipping the fullface and going for the open face would be a good idea. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  16. Check out Pontiac's website, and take a look at the Grand Prix G-Force... it looks REAL nice, and relatively affordable, by european and japanese standards. Of course, this still goes by my rule that if you're going to buy American, don't keep i longer then 3 years... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. If I showed you recent pictures, you'd understand. Thin is one thing. Receeding is another. Both REALLY sucks. There does come a point in a man's life where ya just gotta say fuck it. Plus, I'm saving a fortune on haircuts... A surprisingly large number of women seem to like rubbing my head on jumprun for good luck, too. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  20. Keep them. Doing only one discipline is a choice usually only made by people just starting out. In time you'll find RW more appealing. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. GM is known for bad engines. Ford is known for bad transmissions. I'd go japanese or german. Honda hybrids are looking very exciting, volkswagon 4-wheel drive systems are bulletproof. You pay a premium but you'll get it back in fewer major repairs and a higher resale. Only buy American if a: you're going to lease, or b: you're going to sell it before the waranty expires. _Am _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  24. cue RiggerRob.... A good, cheap rig. It comes in any color you want as long as it's black. You won't win any style points, but it's one of the cheapest rig's on the market. They come off the shelf freefly friendly and cypres ready. You really don't see many out there. Don't expect a good resale value. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
