Awesome Val... I wish I woulda gone with ya... You're gettin HOT! Roger Ponce is gonna be at hinckley next weekend... maybe you're ready for him! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It wasn't my canopy. It was phree's, and the first ankle was done running. That said, I only made that post because I think you missed the point of the previous one. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I don't know about the crossfire 2, because I've never jumped it, but I do know the Samurai. If you put it into a dive, it will maintain part of that dive until you give it some toggle input. This allows you to do your turn up even higher, ride the dive down until it's time to plane out. It gives a whole new way to setup your approach. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

13 days until couch freaks: 2 still fractured ankles : 10 miles biked yesterday. I've taken now two weekends off skydiving, next weekend will be the third. I'm giving three weeks off to get myself into better shape. For the record, I have an avulsion fracture on each ankle. The left I did running about 6 weeks ago, the right I did landing at Rantoul. The left is a whole lot worse then the right. An avulsion fracture is basically a sprain. Both left and right have healed considerably. I'm working the physiotherapy hard, both should be OK for couch freaks. Yesterday I got my bike out, put a toolbox and a bottle of water in my backpack, and hit the road. I stopped by North Beach to watch the Blue Angels in the air show, but missed the golden knights. I continued north about 4 miles, headed west about two, and stopped for a Margarita, Crate and Barrel, and Banana Republic.. Then I came home. Total distance, about 10 miles. I spent the evening with a bag of ice on each ankle. D'oh! I think tomorow I'll bike to work. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I'm confused. The 101 is 1.0 megapixel (still, not as good as the 120, but still half decent), and has USB. I didn't see how the mega-pixel worked, I didn't play with it that long. I assumed it was the same interface as the 120. The only drawback I saw was the touchscreen, and the 1.0 vs 1.5 megapixel resolution...? BTW: both these were taken with my 120... http://www.bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/DSC00016.JPG http://www.bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/sunset.jpg __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I did a few jumps on one a few monthes ago. My thoughts were that it was an attempt to knock-off PD's Sabre. I was jumping a 195, loaded at about 1.1:1 To say it opened 'briskly' would be an understatement. Expect consistently hard openings. If you're going to buy one, make sure you do lots of neck exercises. In terms of performance... it was comparable to a sabre. Good flare on landings, and a reasonable sporty turn rate. The canopy I jumped seemed to have very poor penetration, but this was probably caused by the uncolapasable pilotchute, slider, and Dacron lines. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Actually, most economists think that internet file sharing is HELPING them. Here's an article about Forester Research: http://www.theregus.com/content/6/26003.html Here's the nutshell by Forester: http://www.forrester.com/ER/Research/Report/Summary/0,1338,14854,FF.html _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

IIRC (if I remember correctly...) Martini-shot usually takes about two monthes to produce the video. Seeing as how it really is a profesionally cut video, that's not surprising. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

You'll frequently see Roger and Missy Nelson jumping camera units where the camera is integrated into the helmet, with a wire running to a chest mount recorder. It appeared to be an older Sony setup. It looked like the wire would unplug from either end easily.... but I never did get around to asking them why they used it. In other news, I was wandering through the Sony Store yesterday, and I gotta say that the PC101 is friggin TINY. Not as small as the the IP line... but close. Just out of curiosity... IP7 : 1 7/8 x 4 x 3 1/8" 12 oz w/ battery PC101: 2 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 4" 1lb, 4 oz w/ battery PC120BT: 2 3/8 " x 4 7/8 " x 4 7/8" 1lb, 4oz w/ battery so the 101 is over half an inch shorter, and almost a full inch less deep (shallower?) then the 120... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Golden Knights Reestablish Chicago Beachhead
AndyMan replied to JamesNahikian's topic in The Bonfire
I biked out to north beach today, but I missed the knights. No biggie, I've seen them before and jumped with most... The Blue Angels were cool to see, but to be honest I like small plane aerobatics better. This reminds me... I always thought a Blue Angel was something drunken guys did around a canpfire...? I ended up biking home... put my feet into a bucket of ice for a few hours... Ankle injuries SUCK. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
That's how I was taught, to do a PLF on landing. THey didn't teach you to try to stand up. Yes, we were jumping squares. I actually had a lot of dificulty doing a PLF under a canopy with forward drive. This was a big source of frustration, that I COULDN'T get the PLF down - because I had forward drive! The first time I needed it... it sure came naturally thoguh! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Take some time off, save up some money. Then take a week off, and do as many jumps as you can in that week. There's two things that kills your learning - changing instructors, and time between jumps. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It depends on the canopy. Under a big, slow, square canopy, it's a pretty safe thing. Under a highly loaded eliptical, it's a dumbass who does it. It comes down to the canopy's succeptability to line twists, as this tends to be the big risk when you do this. Under a big, slow, square canopy it's easy to deal with line twists as long as you've got the altitude to work on it. I wouldn't recomend trying this under 2000 feet. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

If you jump out of an airplane and go completely apeshit, it's quite possible that you might end up impacting the earth at about 120 mph. I'm not trying to scare you, or frighten you from doing AFF. But clearly, there is inherient risk when you leave an airplane, and it's up to YOU to perform the tasks required to save your life. That said, there are some elements that reduce the danger. You'll have an Automatic Activation Device, that is very reliable at opening your parachute if you don't. These tend to be very reliable, and work properly most of the time - as long as you're not going apeshit. If you are going apeshit roughly 750 feet from impact, well - all bets are off. You need to be somewhat stable in freefall for the reserve to function properly. There'll be two instructors that will leave the plane with you. They'll take grips on you and hold you steady as you fall through the air. They'll be able to keep you level, keep you steady, and at the end of the skydive they'll open your parachute if you don't. UNLESS - you're going completely apeshit. If you're apeshit, you'll probably be unstable, and the instructors might have a hard time keeping you stable, or staying with you. If your parachute isn't open by 2000 feet, they're outta there, and you're on your own. Again, all bets are off. An instructor died just a few monthes ago trying to save a student that went apeshit. Since then most instructors have re-evaluated what they're wiling to do to save a student. Once you get under a parachute, you have to land it. You'll have a radio and will be able to listen to instructions for landing. Landing a parachute is a pretty simple thing to do, you'll just need to follow a few easy instructions. They tend to go well. Again, if you're unable to perform, all bets are off. Screwing up a student landing usually doesn't kill someone, but broken bones frequently happen to people that don't listen. I'm not trying to scare you. This is a sport with risk. That risk is a big part of the attraction for us. This sport has come a long way over the last 30 years. It's now the case that students going in is an extremely rare event. We're able to say that because of advancements in gear, technology and training. I'm not trying to scare you, thousands and thousands of people go through this exact same process as you and have the time of their lives. It's a mind-invigorating exercise unlike any other. If it's something that you want to do, I'd strongly encourage you to head out to your DZ and check it out, give it a try. But if you're really concerned about going apeshit? Well, maybe skydiving isn't for you. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I've taken my rig carry-on about 6 times this year so far. In the last two years, mayeb 15 times? The only time I ever had trouble at security was the day that I drove to Chicago O'Hare when I was suposed to drive to Chicago Midway, and by the time I got to the right airport I had 15 minutes to make my flight. I always wear my rig on my back, cause I put my clothes in my gear bag. That one time I got hassled, I just pulled out my cypres card and all was fine. I then was sprinting to gate C15, and just made it in time. Fed-ex'ing it would be the easiest in terms of airport stuff, but you'd need to have someone to fed-ex it to, you'd need to ship it ahead of time, too. And while fed-ex rarely looses stuff, stuff does frequently get delayed. You risk your rig showing up when you're on your way home... I would never check my rig. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I saw it tonight.... The stunts were spectacular, but a few of them were just a bit over the top.... like hopping a motorbike over a 15 foot fence without any sign of a ramp. Hmm... Tailgate + low pass + drogue = fun! lol the GTO was sweet... the boat looked rediculous. Awesome movie. Harry's stunt was spectacular, cheers. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

All I gotta say is "talk to your doctor", they can help. Don't try to do it alone, you've done that how many times before? Try something different this time, GET HELP. I'm a BIG fan of Zyban. It's an antidepressant also known as Welbutrin-SR, and it doesnt help with the psysiological (chemical) addition, but a big part of smoking is psychological, and it COMPLETELY takes that away. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
