How many times do you look at your altimeter during a jump?
AndyMan replied to bananna's topic in The Bonfire
surprisingly, rarely more then twice, usually once - shortly before pull time. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. -
Happy Skybirthday Anne! WooHoo! My third is coming up. August 31st, of 99, at Frontier Skydivers near Bufalo NY. I did a tandem with a work friend, Peter Legere under a set450. Shortly afterwards, I went into AFF and jumped a Raven 4 in an old ripcord sweethog rig. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Well, sure. People pull at the wrong altitude, and people have prematures and cuttaways. But by the same token, novice freeflyers track up and down the jumprun without even noticing, people in different groups intentionally track towards each other, and wind drift effects groups of different sizes differently. I'm clearly on the side of horizontal separation. I've seen Kallend's presentation, and it made a lot of sense, once my head stopped hurting. But I refuse to say that verticle separation is worthless. It's important, just not as important. This is, after all why we put students and "high pullers" at the nose of the plane, even if they're doing RW. This debate will never be settled until DZO's give each group their own pass, which will happen shortly after hell freezes over, or the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

A psycho pack CAN damage the canopy if you don't have a bridle extention, because of the wy that you essentially pull the bridle attachment ring WAY off to the side, the ring isn't even close to the grommet on your d-bag. As long as you get the bridle extension (about 6 inches), there's nothing wrong with the psycho pack. I psycho packed my new Stiletto until it had worn off some of its slipperyness. I loved the ease of packing and the controlability while getting it into the bag, but felt (in my humble opinion) that it contributed to off heading openings. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The guy you just followed up to, and I think disagreed with what Pisa said, is the owner (i think) of Atair USA, the guys making one of the hottest canopies on the block, the Cobalt. That just goes means that there's a whole lot of disagreement between the experts, never mind the novices. It's probably fair to say that while it might have contributed to your problem, it surely wasn't the single cause. If it made such a big difference, surely legitimate experts would be able to agree. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yum, Aleve is an over the counter version of Naproxen, a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamatory (NSAID). Perscription Naproxen is 500mg, Aleve is 250. I've gone from Naproxen to Aleve to help with my ankle. Good stuff... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I don't tend to jump there regularly, I also don't tend to say overly positive things, but I will say that never once have I ever felt that I am less safe at SDC then any other DZ. I trust their pilots, mechanics, and instructors completely. You're making the same mistake the whuffos do when you make comments like that - believing people with vendenttas who're trying to hurt a person and a business. Go there, hang out, get to know the people, enjoy the place. Then decide if it's worth the longer drive. But don't refuse to go there just because somebody said they're dangerous. They're not. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yeah, I haven't been able to bring myself to cut it off my brand new camera. I think I'll just tape it somewhere, if I can. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

When I did it on my stileto loaded at 1.55, I went from straight and level flight quickly into a deep turn, with my arm fully extended downwards. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

You should expect Really, Really, Really, Really big landing areas. You should plan on using that really, really, really, really big landing area too. Other then that, you should expect a plane taking off every two minutes, and an awesome assortment of the coolest jump planes in the world. Your profile says you have 25 jumps. Is that out of date? You need 50 jumps to register for WFFC. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Not a bad story... and going to the handles first, then deciding against it is nice way to approach it. You don't want to screw around trying to fix it THEN decide you need the handles only to find yourself too low. I did the same thing just over a month ago, except I did it under a heavily loaded stileto, and I did it under a thousand feet. I also went straight for the handles, but I could feel that canopy starting to come out of the spin, so I didn't chop. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I had absolutely no idea these bombers were still being used in active duty. I would've thought they would've been long ago retired to the airshow and museam circuit... Jeeze, I thought WE used old planes... but ours are rarely made before 1960 - at least 20 years newer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

0:0:0 A non jumping weekend for andy... I did mange to succesfuly mount my new camera on the velocity... it's purdy. Pics will be posted, eventually. I'm really surprised at how heavy these things are.... Yesterday was a rooftop party at my condo.... um.... interesting party. Awesome band, rivers of free booze... we partied from 3:00pm until 10, then moved the party down off the rooftop, then moved the party to a club downtown. I went to bed around 5.... 14 hours of partying. Wow. A few pics from the rooftop are here: http://bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/rooftop02/ Today, I'm recovering. update: 4:45 central. I've spent the afternoon trying to figure out Adobe Premiere. Wow, that's some complicated #$%^&! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

It's been an interesting day. It started off at a rooftop part my condo association was holding. A ton of people came out, we had a band play, a pig roast, the rest of the food cattered, free booze... the works. Anyways, as i progress deeper into the effects of the open bar, two girls start hitting on me. It was fun. As time progressed, they were being more and more flirtatious. Eventually we even got into a waterfight, throwing bottles and glasses of water at each other. I knew they were younger. In a 'guess my age' I guessed 19 and 20, and they said I was right. Anyways, the rooftop party winded down, and we moved downstairs, into the condo of a friend. Then, I overheard their real age. 14 and 15. Now I wanna explain - I'm no pervert here. I don't go after 14 and 15 year olds. These two were the most physically mature teenagers I've ever seen. When I guessed they were 20, I was guessing LOW. Anywyas, so I said 'thanks for hanging out today', gave each one a hug, and moved on. I eventually moved out to the balcony, had a smoke, a beer, and a "safety meeting" with another girl... this once was older. Again, we hit it off briliantly. She might've been 10 years older then me, but we got along so well, had so much seemingly in common, it wasn't an issue. Eventually, she tells me she wants to see my condo. In fact, she INSISTS she sees my condo. RIGHT NOW. Now I dunno about you, but if a woman is insisting that she leave a party to go see my condo, she's NOT just interested in my condo. Aparently, she was. We go down, conviently the place is actually clean, and the lights are even dim. She looks around, then says to me " Damn. if only you were 5 years older....", then we go back upstaits. After she's left, a bunch of us are standing around wondeirng what to do next.... somebody suggests a club, and we go. On the way there, in the taxi, I realise that one of the people I'm sharing the cab with, is the mother of one of the girls that'd been hitting on me earlier. We end up at this bar, get front of the line, no cover because somebody knows somebody.... go in, it's a hip techno / oxygen bar / 9$ drink / beautiful people kinda place.... We all start dancing, and we're all having fun, but I do notice this 'mother' is getting closer... yup, she's hitting on me now, too. The mother of the 14 year old girl from earlier today is trying to grind.... So, to recap: One the girl is WAY too young. One I'm WAY too young. One That would jsut be WEIRD! Now it's 5:00am, and I started drinking at 3:00pm. I think it's bedtime. Thankfully, given the day's events, I'll be there alone. In other news, I was dancing on my ankle tonight.... WooHoo! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
