Hmm.. 5:2:9 Yes, that second number was a 2. I'll get to that later. My flight left Chicago at 6am thursday, after a quick stopover in Memphis I made it to Mobile, Alabama. I made my first stop at Walmart, and bought one cumfyChair. I took that chair to the beach in Biloxy, and read my book until I fell alseep. :D Thursday night I drove to New Orleans, met n2skdvn, watched the fireworks over the river. Yay! Friday I spend again on the Biloxy beech, again with my book and my cumfyChair. I got a sunburn on my legs. Yay! By Friday night I'd met up with Lindsey and driven back to New Orleans, and I got my introduction to Southern Cooking. I like! Saturday we made it to the DZ for the first time. I took my ComfyChair and after sitting in it for a few hours made my first POOR decision - I made a skydive, even with my broken ankle. Perhaps one of the stupidest decisions I've made, but dammit it was fun. The first jump was a two-way with Lindsey, one of my most memorable jumps, I'm sure. I landed fine on my ass. Shortly afterwards we met up with Sinkster - cool guy! Saturday night we ventured deep into the forests of Bayou le Batre, Alabama to visit a party hosted by some local jumpers. And yes, I got us lost on the way home. LOST! LOST IN THE BAYOU! Oh well. We did shortly figure our way out of the forest, though. Sunday Lindsey headed home and left me at the dropzone... where I made ANOTHER poor decision and made my second jump of the weekend. I rented some gear, did a solo... took the student gear head down, wondered why the reserve flap was whacking against my head.... Doh! It opened fine, I landed fine on my ass. Another good jump. Yay! A weather hold came in around 4 and I broke out the beer, which me and some local jumpers drank until around 10:00pm sunday night. I just got back from the orthopedic surgeon, and it's not nearly as bad as the ER goons led me to believe. He wasn't concerned about the fracture at all, said it was quite minor. I'm going for an MRI to confirm this, but let me say this now: WHEW! It's important to remember the causality here. Just because someone is a good freeflyier doesn't mean they're even remotely stable on their belly. I saw this this last weekend. Sure, you'll see swoopers do it all the time. Quite literally it means turning in the middle of your flare. The turn itself is pretty easy to do, the dificulty lies in knowing at what part of the flare you can do it and still stand up your landing. About 5 years ago they boosted the taxes in Ontario to make smokes quite expensive - and yes, a big black market came up. The imported cigarettes came from - yup, you guessed it - New York. It later came out in court that the manufacturers and distributers were actually encouragin the smuggling - I guess this was the US's revenge for Seagrams supplying Al Capone. Anyways, Both Ontario and New York have raised taxes at about the same time, by about the same amount. This means the smuggling won't be cross border, at least - but I dunno about cross state. reaching your ankle?!?!?!?! Reaching your knee, I can understand, but your ankle? how loose was your legstraps? I can't possibly imagine how your legstraps would get down to your ankle, they just aren't that long! Legstraps going down towards your knee is a common problem, and why people have bungee cords put on their legstraps.
