Doh! I was reading it backwards! But still. April 7, it's currently June, and we've lost a lot of friends since then. It's not like these are airplane accidents that take monthes of FAA investigation to figure out a cause. A no-pull is a no no-pull. Striking the side of the plane on a crw jump, is striking the side of a plane without a cypres. I say again, unless Barry (or someone else) is going to step up and do this, then we should. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Unfortunately, I STRONGLY disagree. Information spread just as quickly last year, and there weren't nearly as many accidents. Actually, information spread QUICKER last year because we had an excelent resource available, Barry's fatalities page ran the numbers for us on a whim. We don't have that available, because Barry seems to be neglecting it, and nobody is stepping up to replace it. I actually don't know how many we've lost this year. I suspect it's WAY higher then this time last year. This concerns me. If (hopefully) I'm wrong, and we're actually NOT losing more then last year, the explanation for this cold pit of sorrow I feel in my stomach every weekend is NOT that "information is spreading quicker", but rather "the lack of concrete information about these incidents is making me fear the worst." _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Doh! Yup, it's been a while since I was doing this kind of stuff. fdisk /mbr NOT format /mbr _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Do you have a boot disk? Try booting from the boot disk, then type 'format c: /mbr' The /mbr is the critical part, it won't reformat the whole disk, it'll just rewrite the master boot record. After that, try 'sys c:', which will rewrite the system files to the disk. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Get off student status, and buy your own rig. You'll find a modern rig that fits you properly won't leave those bruises. We've all gone through it... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

I've got a pretty strict definition. In my mind, cheating is SO much bigger then just sex. It's an emotional thing. (hypothetically), If you've made a commitment to somebody, I'm pretty sure you meant more then "I promise I'll only sleep with you". You probably meant, "I promise you're the only one I love". In my mind, you can be cheating by having just a friend of the opposite gender (asuming hetero's), if you're closer with that friend then you are with your SO. In my mind, your SO should be your strongest bond of the opposite gender. If that isn't the case, there's something wrong that you need to fix. And yes, cheating is also everything inbetween. Kissing, oral-sex, sex, making out, etc. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

The canopies I've had shipped to me were in a plastic bag before being put into cardboard box. I've shipped UPS, fedex, and PD shipped me my canopy by USPS Priority Mail. I know that it probably would seriously fuck up a turbo-prop if it got sucked into the air intake. It probably wouldn't happen in flight, but I do wonder about a plane at idle... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Correct. At Hinckley, we share the runway with a glider operation. The student gliders do not have radios or transponders. Most of the private gliders have radios, some have both radios and transponders. It generally isn't an issue because we sort out the jumprun with the glider center each day. The only time they'rd in "our" space is when they're on approach for landing. It should only be an issue if someone goes WAY low, like cypres low. Landing 50 feet to the right of a glider is a rush, let me tell you. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Off topic, but interestingly enough, we met ken at Eloy and saw your rig. http://bombshelter.ca/~andy/photos/eloy/KenAshBetsyBillVal.jpg - Ken is on the far left. The last time I saw someone here write something like that, it was Chris Weber. He died two weeks ago under a perfectly funtioning Vengence loaded at about 1.8. He had about 270 jumps. I do know there's people out there who really do "get it". They're NOT the ones jumping tiny mains at low experience levels. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Eric, you simply MUST explain this one. You prefer the westwind over the otter because of the side exit?!?!?!? Me, I've jumped The Pitts Special, c-182, c-206, Bell 412, twin bonanza, Caravan, King Air, Otter, Skyvan, and Casa. From smallest to largest. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Do you think this applies equally to someone with 19 jumps, not yet off student status, but probably working down from that Raven4 down to a 1.0 wingloading? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

I think that is all illustrated in this post. I thought I would take this opportunity to post the canopy progresion of J.C. Colclasure's canopy progresion, from Parachutist Feb2002: Manta 240: 15 jump Sabre 210: 40 jumps Sabre 190: 100 jumps Sabre 170: 60 jumps Sabre 150: 100 jumps Stiletto 150: 900 jumps Stiletto 135: 200 jumps Stiletto 120: 300 jumps FX 115: 1000 jumps FX 112: 1000 jumps VX 94: 1500 jumps An awesome canopy pilot isn't born over night. Even JC took the time to get training and learn the canopy. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

A good place for you to be right now is somewhere around a 1.0 or 1.1 wingloading. This means, if you weigh 170 pounds naked, add 30 pounds for clothes and gear, gives you 200. Flying a 200 square foot canopy would be a 1.0 wing loading. A 190 square foot canopy, would be about a 1.1 wingloading. Your goal should be to downsize, one canopy size at a time until you get to 1.1. Do at least a few jumps on each canopy before you downsize, doing more jumps on the smaller canopies. Work with your instructors throughout this process. Once you get to 1.1, stop there. Do at least a hundred jumps at 1.1 before you think of downsizing again. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

Grabing the risers is definately a good thing... just be carefull where you put your fingers. Don't stick them in between the risers until they've already pulled tight. What I'll do frequently is just hold onto both (front and rear) risers with each hand. You can still steer by pulling both front and rear, then I'll transition to just the rear after the canopy is sorta kinda mostly open. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
