  1. Ew! I feel.... so... dirty. 23! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  2. Yeah, and I'm sure there's an awfull lot of people who say the same thing about our medivacs and town paramedics when we burn in, or the coast guard when we land offshore. The US coast guard saved my ass once, and I was in Canadian waters. They just happened to be closer. SAR is a good thing, no matter what the conditions. My thoughts are with the family of the injured pilot and the the unfortunate adventurers. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  3. That is true. However, Pisa's Heatwave is even worse. So is Big Air Sportz Samurai. Any canopy can and will spin up. Take your sabre2, during opening lean strongly in one direction. See what happens. The Stiletto may be worse then the Sabre2, but same risk exists everywhere. All high performance canopies need to be flown throughout the opening. This characteristic is by no means limited to the Stiletto. I've had toggles come off my stiletto during deployment. It didn't spin up because I flew it throughout the opening, flying it with harness movements and rear riser control. Your friend at SDC should've been able to do the same. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  4. It's kinda like a really nasty accident on the side of the highway. No matter how hard you try, you simply must look. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  5. Then you can ask what it'll fit. I had a triathlon 190 in a Javelin J-3. I also had a specter 170, a stiletto 170, a safire 170, plus a bunch of 150's. The only one that didn't fit was a heatwave 150, which was too small. What brand of container are you getting? Once you decide which canopy you want, email the container manufacturers and tell them what main you're buying. They'll size the container for it. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  6. Yeah, I was thinking about that myself. Weber, blue skies. You will be missed. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  7. It looks like you nailed the spins on your second jump... you just got nervous at pull time and dropped a shoulder. RELAX! And I mean both physically and mentally! Relax physically by loosening your muscles, let the wind blow your arms and legs back into their neutral position. You're flying now, think of how elegantly birds fly. You're one of them, now. Relax mentally by clearing your mind, taking deep breathes, and think of that bird... Keep it up. Keep these simple thoughts in mind, and I'm sure you'll nail it on your next try. 8. I'm with Quade on this one.... Women who get enhancements usually go overboard, I see them and ask myself how these women manage to stay standing. You'd think they'd topple over. Natural, B or C - wow. Nothing wrong with that! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  9. Thanks... you guys are awesome. Definately birthday jumps at hinckley. Maybe I'll screw off from work and join you at SDC, too! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  10. I wouldn't go that far. You can't spin up a stiletto just by burrying a toggle. You can spin up an eliptical canopy by alternating very deep toggles. Deep into the right, then quickly deep into the left. I suspect this is true of your sabre2, too. You can also induce a spin on an eliptical canopy by completely stalling it. As the canopy collapses there's a risk of it spinning if you're not even on the toggles. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  11. There's been at least two fatalities in the US this last weekend, and at least two more major injuries. Barry hasn't updated his site since January 8. This information NEEDS to get out there. Unless Barry is going to step up and start updating his site, a replacement is badly needed. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  14. How do you flat pack an eliptical? The cells don't stack up, and there are no packing tabs? Despite what other people've posted, I've never seen anyone flat pack an eliptical. I can't imagine flat packing my stiletto... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  17. At 30,000 feet time of useful consciousness without oxygen is about 2 minutes, according to the SIM. However, a much bigger concern is that you are: "...subject to decompression sickness, including the bends, chokes, and cramps, resulting from the nitrogen in the bloodstream coming out of solution and forming a froth of bubbles around joints. Decompression sickness are avoided to a large extent by denitrogenization of the bloodstream by breathing 100% pure oxygen for at least one hour before reaching the altitude of 25,000 feet." High altitude jumps from less then 25,000 are pretty common, relatively innexpensive, and require little training. On these jumps you take oxygen in the plane and do not take a bail-out bottle. Much above 20,000 requires a bailout bottle and oxygen in the plane. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  19. Yeah. Use the rig for what it was designed for. If you want to freefly, buy one that was designed for it. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  20. 1.3 is a very high wingloading for your experience. If you jump that canopy, none of us would be surprised to hear of you in a hospital with serious leg damage from a botched landing. The same botched landing will probably give you a minor sprain when you're loading your canopy at 1.1 Expect it as a given that you WILL botch a few landings in your first few hundred jumps. What kinda of damage do you want to do to yourself at that time? _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999

  23. Let's spell this out. NO AIRLINES HAS A POLICY AGAINST RIGS, OR CYPRES. Clear? I took my rig to Eloy last weekend. I flew ATA . Since I was running late, and had 20 minutes to make the plane, of COURSE I got hassled at security. They were concerned about the cypres. They knew it was a rig... and they wanted to open it up to see the cypres. The cypres card in my wallet, plus a bit of horseshit about the "FAA Riggers Seal" talked them out of it pretty quick. The deal with traveling now is that NO AIRLINES has a policy against rigs or cypres's. The only issue you'll have it security personal who don't know what a cypres is. Interestingly enough, on my way back I forgot to check my hook knife. They didn't even notice it hanging off my chest strap, but they did think my camera case was pretty interesting. It was holding: get this - a camera! _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  24. I just noticed this. I had my Triathlon spin up. I think Missy had her problem under a Velocity. Any canopy can spin up. Don't be so cocky to think it only happens to Stiletto's. _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
  25. Yup, and it was caused by a packing error, and yup, I packed it myself. It was NOT one of those packjobs where I though "Hmm. I wonder if THIS will open?" Those ones usually open best. That said, I did actually see the packing error as I was putting the bag into the container. The pilotchute stuck through half of the lines. So I pulled the pilotchut our of the lines. What I should've done is passed the whole rig through the lines... the pilot chute was the only part that was correct. The only way I would've known this was to completely undo all of my line stowes and lay it out... but I was too lazy. I though of this, but thought with cockiness.. "Nah, I can fix this!" The mal was a complete line over.... a brake line and two D lines came down off the canopy, did a full wrap around my other lines, then anchored on my risers. Whoever says a triathlon won't spin up has never had one in this configuration... _Am ICQ: 5578907 MSN Messenger: andrewdmetcalfe at hotmail dot com AIM: andrewdmetcalfe Yahoo IM: ametcalf_1999
