I'm not really sure. There's an Audi A6 at work with my name on it, but the boss didn't really want to give it to me until the fall. I'm trying to accelerate that deal. NICE car. Failing the Audi, I'm half tempted to buy something entirely WAY too practical. Maybe even a hybrid like Bill's. The problem is that when it really comes down to it, I'm a bit of a snob, and I do like NICE car's. So, I'm also thinking maybe a BWM 325 sportswagon, Audi Allroad, an Acura MDX (sport ute), Mazda Tribute, or a Nissan X-terra. I'm definately buying new. My 95 prelude bit the dust on the weekend. I just got the call from my mechanic, and the source of the vibrations coming from the engine is wear on the main bearings. Repair would mean completely ripping apart the engine to replace one tiny part deep inside, and set me back a few grand. So scractch any thoughts of a weekend road trip... scratch any thoughts of the trip to Canada I was planing for next week, and off to to the dealerships I go. Off topic, but I'm sure it's no worse the the US Marines carrying the Canadian flag in upside down to the baseball All Star Game in Toronto's Skydome, a few years back. At least your master rigger had an excuse - the flag was burried in a bag. Yeah, but far too often i hear "I can't afford it" from people driving yuppy cars, with otherwise brand new gear. In fact, there's one specific dz.com'er who six monthes ago was driving a brand new Volvo, brand new Rig, the whole nine yards. When I heard him say he couldn't afford a cypres, I had to laugh. I don't understand why people generally don't value AAD's more. The view from my condo is unfortunately the Toyota dealershipa across the street. However, the view from my rooftop patio is a priceless view of downtown chicago. It's JUST base-able, too. The view from my new office (when I finally move in) will be the chicago river, lake michigan, and downtown chicago, all in one. Well, I'm glad you feel comfortable under it. Please correct me where I'm wrong.... you have roughly 300 jumps, which I understand you've done basically over 5 years. You jump at a weekend only dropzone, and if your "weekend numbers" postings are any indication, you've done about 20 jumps so far this year. Despite your low experience level and lack of currency, you think it's ok to jump a canopy at an extreme wing loading, because Derek tought you to swoop. You arogantly state that because I think your nuts, I must not understand, so therefore I must not jump a high performance canopy. Actually, I do understand, and I do jump a Stileto, loaded at 1.5, a level that has gotten me myself many "are you nuts" comments. Despite this, I have more jumps then you, are more current then you, I'm pretty sure my canopy instruction is just as good, if not better then yours. Did I miss anything? It's a wise man who learns from his own mistakes. It's an even wiser man who learns from other peoples mistakes. It's in this veign, that I'm going to raise the fact that we lost one of our own this last weekend. Tony Weber (dz username: weber) with 270 jumps died after a hard landing under his vengence 150. Don't think it can't happen to you. If you like, I can go find the thread where he said it was a great canopy, and like you, he felt perfectly confident flying it. I still think your nuts, and I worry you'll be a statistic. Yup, and it really wasn't that bad when they were doing it. For the most part, it means you get a para-gear catalog, and an invite from local DZ's to their special events.
