Good idea. But I try to keep my inspections more on a daily basis. Yeah, good point. I'm amazed at how many people call themselves Christian, yet are ignorant of JC's teachings. They may know their pastor or their denomination's dogma by heart but fail to comprehend the message of hope given by JC. Way too many of us are judgmental with agendas. IMHO, the greatest disservice done "to" the church was it's rise to power. Even today, way too many Christians would like to politicize their message and "christianize" the world through government. /rant. steveOrino

Mine was. I followed an IAD student so I threw at 2500 or so. I saw it ... steered right and left with risers then practiced a flare. Everything was okay. then about 1700 I turned right and the stiletto went into a spin. I thought for a second or two about trying to straighten it out then thought it would be better to cut. You never know. steveOrino

I'll own up to two of the reserve rides. One was my own packing error, the other was another skydiver who pulled my D handle loose when we did a "horny gorilla". Since I planned that dive I take claim. The others were tension knots on a tandem, and a gazillion line twist on a tandem that I could not clear. (I'm sure itwas the tandem student's body position that caused it. ) The last one on my sport rig was a double walk through that was packed by a packer who packed it after another vidiot borrowed my rig for a back to back video. either way ... I have five. I hope I never look like a QB from Ohio State though!

I was in a big athletic dept. store the other day. While looking for something else I spotted those award stickers football coaches give to players for big hits, interceptions, fumble recoveries, TDs, etc. These were skull & crossbones. I bought a set and put 5 on my helmet for the 5 reserve rides I had (3 tandems -- 2 personal rig). One of my buds asked for two to put on his helmet for his rides. I wonder if this is a bad idea? Well, truthfully, I don't care but I was curious to opinions. steveOrino

To feel "normal" I do not do it for a "high". Skydiving makes me feel "normal." Go figure. That being said, I do get more of a rush jumping with students though as opposed to "regular" skydivers. Nothing like being with someone for their very first jump. steveOrino

I got the same response for my flexon rig. All was lacking was for her to responding for client, the great prince buhundi from Nigeria. steveOrino -
I've been there with a 360 (365?) Icaurus. Heavy wing load and a tension knot spin. It made a "spinetto" spin from my stiletto look tame in comparison. steveOrino

Who's saving up for New gear this spring!?!?
steveorino replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've sold my 150 stiletto and my other setup (mirage/saber/raven2) and bought an Icon and stiletto. After 1500 jumps and 7 years, it wil be my first "new gear", although I am keeping my Swift Plus reserve, so I guess it is not totally used. Since I don't do video anymore it makes no sense to have two rigs. steveOrino -
This is what I tried to do, as I'm not looking for quality, just a clip to show to introduce a theme, but perhaps I had the cords hooked up wrong. I have the Sony HC 30 and Sony HC 40. I ran the 5 pin cable from the camera back to the rCA on the DVD player. I could not get the image to come up. steveOrino

Having used CCLI for over 25 years and more recently CVLI, I'm aware of the limitations you just posted. I was respond to your 110% assertation that I do not have a "video license" All that being said, I may be rationalizing my ethics, but I personally have no problem buying "anger Management" and copying a 3 minute video clip of it to to introduce my discusion on anger. Of course tonight I simply cued it up and showed it from the original DVD I purchased for $7 at Wally World. I'm simply trying to save myself some time. I have always had a civil disobedience response to stupid or unjust laws. For instance I have never put the NIV copyright bs on scripture text I placed in a buletin when I pastored bigger churches. Lock me up ... steveOrino

I desire to capture video snippets from movies to introduce topics I lead in a recovery group at my work where I am a therapist. For instance, in the movie Anger Mgt, there is a 3 1/2 minute scene where Nicholson (the therapist) stops Sandler (the patient) on a bridge and makes him sing "I feel pretty" from West side story. Pretty funny! It is a great intro into a discussion about anger. Most DVDs have some code to keep you from bootlegging. I have a video license I purchased to use such material (similar to a church's CCLI that allows them to project print music in a church bulletin) Is there a way to run the DVDs through my linear editing equipment or even capture the short segments on a video camera? steveOrino

AAD - cost vs future progression
steveorino replied to Mike111's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You obviously play golf better than me. Between trying to buy a better game with lessons and every new driver, wedge, putter, etc and the price of the 1000s of balls I have put in the water or hid under a bush, I could have made over 1500 jumps, bought two rigs, earned several ratings, and bought a ton of skydiving stuff... Oh wait, I did! steveOrino -
I have had two rigs for the past 3-4 years because I was the main vidiot at a small Cessna DZ (500 students anually) I had a Stiletto 150 for my fun rig and a Saber 190 for my demo rig and backup. Presently, I'm selling both (see classifieds ) and buying a Stiletto 170 because I'm getting older and I do more tandems now with a few IAD instructor jumps and almost no video jumps. Apart from needing two rigs for "work" purpose I'd invest my money in something else. JMHO steveOrino

Personally, I think he had something to do with it. How else do you explain Dallas, a 13 win team, playing like JuCo team? Yep, Lee, you are off the hook with the $50 you owe me from the November game. Now, that is enough of "help from on high" steveOrino

From the days of being SF to my my present job as a counselor/therapist I have spent lots of time & $ maintaining my education with 100s of hours of professional development designed to build on my education & training. I have seen the over all value of doing so. However, I'd be pissed if I was forced to spend $1500 on a Introduction to General Psychology course at this stage in my career. Wouldn't I learn something new? Yes, perhaps, but I believe my time and money would be better spent on a class designed to build on my experience rather than teach me the basics. Is that whining? If so, I guess I'm a whiner. steveOrino
