I would like to tell you a bit more about God
steveorino replied to DropDgorgeous's topic in Speakers Corner
yes, it is. I'm not a catholic so therefore I'm unaware of their proclamation. However, if they did lie about the effectiveness of condoms, it was to promote their dogma. Is that wrong? You bet. steveOrino -
Yeah, I've been tempted to get a new HD camera, but my HC40 is dirt cheap, and works well in low light. It has all the ports on it, no docking station,

Come on Christians, how are we to present our "good news"? With gentleness & respect. I understand there are times people are baited to respond less graciously, but if Christians are to take JC's teachings seriously we will try to rise above that. Perhaps it is my training as therapist, but the attitude people display in their posts are more telling than their words. That is true for both sides of the debate. JMHO steveOrino -

Let me just say my experience with military health care wasn't as good as yours. I don't trust the government to do anything effeciently when it comes to $ Why, were you a grunt? No, Special Forces medic steveOrino

Okay, perhaps our military hospital care is good. How is the VA? steveOrino

Don't get me wrong, you know more than he does, and your info was good as well, but I've seen students with less than 10 jumps telling whuffos what to do ... steveOrino

I have the SF unit patch on my left shoulder. That is the only tatoo I have. Like you, I don't care what anyone else thinks or what it will look like years from now. The words "special Forces" "Airborne" are fading, so what? If I ever had a skydiving tattoo, I like the BSBD skeleton. But I like skulls. I have them on my Harley as well. steveOrino

If you could get anything from Santa this year...

my son home from Afghanistan safely and whole. Heck, how about all sons & daughters home from War. steveOrino -
I don't own a gun, never have. I know how to shoot. I was a sargeant in US Army Special Forces. However, I don't see how legal ownership of guns can be a problem. The problems seems to me to stem from criminals who seldom if ever obtain their weapons legally. How would outlawing guns have any effect on the intent of the criminal mind? steveOrino

Ebay -- has them -- cheaper too. $50 buy it now Beware of the Gatorz "style" knock offs though. steveOrino

Ebay That is wher I have bought mine (3) Why pay more than you have to? There are some on there for $50 "buy it now" Don't bid on the Gatorz "style" sunglasses. They're like Choakleys, a rip-off, but there are some real Gatorz on there. steveOrino

I reread my post and it sounds like I'm a wise guy. Sorry about that. It is just some newbies over think and research too much online before they jump. Some research may be good, but without a context to put that information in -- it can lead to more problems than solutions ... such as a guy with 100 jumps and less than a year in the sport telling you what to do (or buy) For the record Matt didn't give "advice" on this thread and he did give some good info, but there are many out there that will steer you wrong -- most likely unintentionally. Or like the guy who said the "tongue in cheek" response about skyride. Read this thread steveOrino

How about the one the Instructor at your DZ recommends, rather than some anonymous skydiver with a Intermediate rating. Think the Instructor might have a better idea? steveOrino

Perhaps there are other reasons ... Matthew 13;10 -17 The disciples came to him [JC] and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. steveOrino -
I'll capture some stills next weekend off the video and you guys will see what I mean. Thanks for the input so far. steveOrino

I'm not sure how weather conditions apply ... Maybe I'm not being clear. Her legs are so fat the strap will not tighten down. But when you deploy the leg strap ride up a bit and lowers her in the harness. steveOrino

Okay, I misinterpreted "This effectively gives USPA members who are only manufacturer rated approximately one year to make the necessary arrangements with a USPA Tandem Course Director and earn the USPA Tandem Instructor rating" I assumed that meant take the course, not just fill out card. steveOrino

Isn't it a danger to have the chest strap "move" up that much? steveOrino
-
I'm not being very PC here, but how do you guys handle fat tandems? You know the ones who are below any weight limit but have lots of flab. The leg straps won't cinch down more than an inch or less and they lay at a 90 degree angle. Upon deployment it is like jello through a strainer. The opening shock pulls the leg straps up through the fat to a more normal 45 degree angle and now your student is 8 inches below the top of the shoulder harness, and the chest strap is precariously close to their chin. Do you guys say, "I'm sorry, you're not fit enough (or you're too fat) to skydive?? steveOrino
-
Thanks Tom. As I understand it then a TM with only a manufacturer's rating and who is also IADI wils still have to attend a full blown TI course with those who have never been a TM? steveOrino
