  1. freelance magazine cartoonist here ... I've been published in almost every major periodical (except New Yorker) to include, but not limited to ... Good Housekeeping, Sat Eve Post, TV Guide, BH&G, National Enquirer, Ebony, etc. Right now I illustrate for books and I'm having fun working with "funny" foods --- this is mainly to entertain my granddaughters though. steveOrino
  2. I work as a counselor/therapist for those with drug dependency problems, and they overwhelmingly support Obama ... imagine that. steveOrino
  3. I'm bending my arm. I don't which one is more stable. I can't tell yet. I'm not good enough to tell the difference. Which one is more stable?
  4. And you know which is "safer" about arm bent vs arm extended when pulling? I'd ask them why the diff. Most likely one will tell you how one is more stable, the other will likely tell you it is the way we always have done it. So which way did "you" decide was "safer"? About flaring 6 feet above the ground??? I'd certainly ask why they say that over the typical 12-15 feet. steveOrino
  5. Can you give an example of where multiple AFFIs gave you different answers? steveOrino
  6. When I saw the thread title, "Palin Website" and this thread, "Biden Website" right underneath it, the first thing that came to mind is if I clicked on "Palin Website" I'd see a nice website that people would try to pick apart and the "Biden website" would plagiarize Palin's and simply put his picture over hers. steveOrino
  7. And how do you decide which answer you take? Kris is not an AFFI but she is giving you very good advice. I am an AFFI and I say the same. Take your advice from the AFFI at the DZ. Are their subtle differences in techniques? Yes, but if you spot a glaring contradiction ask the AFFI why. Personally, I would not want to take up a student who is asking and getting advice willy-nilly. steveOrino
  8. Then who should be imposing their core beliefs on the community? steveOrino
  9. Fine to those who religion/faith/spirituality means nothing or little to them. But to those who faith/religion or spirituality is an integral part of their being, that would be like asking them to keep their core beliefs out of their political view. steveOrino
  10. Maybe it is just me, but I think someone without a lot of Wash DC ties might be the best thing that has happened to the USA in many decades. JMHO I'm not sure how others see it but as a former Alaskan I find it somewhat condescending when people bring up the population of a state, such as Alaska, to render it less important than those other states like CA, FL, IL & NY. I guess Alaska is now the ultimate "fly over" country, or would that be "fly under"?? steveOrino
  11. Oh, the irony ... you have a problem with a two year governor as VP stating she has no experience to be "a heart beat away" but are perfectly content with the guy with ZERO experience learning on the job. steveOrino
  12. I never said it was difficult. I simply pointed out a few things. Palin the VP candidate for the GOP has executive experience as a state governor. Obama has NO executive experience. And it amazes me how stupid people are when they imply Alaska is all tundra and Eskimos. steveOrino
  13. I didn't realize the mayor of SF was running for Pres or Vice Prez? GOP VICE president candidate, Palin: no foreign policy experience, but has experience of governing a state and being a mayor of a small town. DEM President candidate, Obama: no foreign policy experience and NO executive experience whatsoever. steveOrino
  14. Alaska has a population smaller than dozens of US cities, and thanks to oil revenues actually sends money to its citizens, rather than having to tax them. Hardly a challenge to run. "you can't fix stupid" -- Ron White steveOrino
  15. Asa former Alaskan, I do. I lived there 7 years. '82-'89. Sadly, it does not surprise me that so many people think Alaska is a barren waste land full of igloos and polar bears. steveOrino
  16. You must be talking about the democratic voting block. steveOrino
  17. Those jobs do not compare to the experience of running the country -- running a state does. steveOrino
  18. The bigger problem we'd have is if Obama lives ... NO (ZERO) experience running ANY office. steveOrino
  19. You are over 16??? Could've fooled me! I agree with Billvon. I hope you get the less costly lesson. Here is a quote from my favorite AFFIE, Michael Wadkins, "Be safe! Be a mentor!" steveOrino
  20. I'm a fairly new TI (2 years and 500 tandem jumps) When I started Dalillama PMed and asked if I was having a problem chipping. I said "Occasionally" He had seen pictures of me in my xtreme-visuals website. He advised me to arch and keep my hands high and simply outfly bad students. I have tried that and it works. I seldom worry about my students body position once we are in the air. I train them good on the ground, but when we are in the sky, I just arch and get big to outfly them. steveOrino
  21. I arch like a mother ... helps me out fly bad student body positions. (not that this guy's position was bad) steveOrino
  22. I'd welcome you to jump with me, either as a tandem or go AFF "old lady"? I'm 53 .. is that old? be careful how you answer. steveOrino
  23. I think it depends on you. If you want to do RW, freefly and being an Instructor helps pay for that then, maybe it will drain the fun out as you see your peers do those jumps w/o you while you have a student strapped to your chest or spend hours teaching AFF. However, if you are like me, and rather jump with a newbie, especially a first timer, than turn 10 points, you may find being a TI or AFFI very rewarding. I know I do. To me personally there is nothing like being there for the reaction of someone's first jump. Mentors, like Michael Wadkins of xcelskydiving.com have helped me enjoy teaching as well steveOrino
  24. I'm not a big fan of them. I don't have them on my personal rigs as I use to do a lot of camera jumps and I wanted the separation time. I know they have a purpose, but personally I prefer no RSL. steveOrino
  25. Yeah, for us old farts! steveOrino
