  1. Where did you get that claim? From what I read, the $500 additional taxes was just a hypothetical "what if"?
  2. Less than half said the government should guarantee health care if it meant their own insurance costs would go up.
  3. Seems like this poll should be reserved for people of faith. Or are there any Atheists who believe in Hell?
  4. I don't see anything wrong with buying credits if it gets the job done overall. Clearly it won't alleviate local problems, but these are more concerned with things like mercury emissions or acid rain than with CO2 emissions. Even the GOP can have the occasional good idea. Please explain how Gore's paying $450/month neutralizes his $3000/month gas and power bill, as well as his frequent jet setting around the globe. What's your "ecological footprint"? Who said it neutralizes it? Not me. Okay. How about explaining this - "I sure think Gore could do better, but he's already doing better than most of us." Please be honest enough to address both sides of the story, not just his "green" measures. What's your "ecological footprint"?

  6. What is the incidence of cervical cancer among women who get regular pap smears (and hpv testing - when recommended)?
  7. Lifetime of protection? Another one of Kallend's famous fabrications? I call bullshit. How did you reach that $170,000/life figure? Fuzzy math? The vaccine is reported to be effective for at least 4.5 years. Anything beyond that is speculation. The vaccine works against the strains that are thought to cause 70% of the cases of cervical cancer. It is not known to work on the other 30 percent. Cost = $170,000/life saved? Riiiight
  8. Let's cite your recent post as the answer to that. Considering one in 37,500 women dies from cervical cancer each year I'll try again: How many women, who get annual pap smears, die from cervical cancer?
  9. What are you implying? that any unmarried teen who has a child is automatically a welfare recipient? No stereotyping there.
  10. Ok, Then please do not seek public aid for any babies of your teenage children. You refuse an ounce of prevention, pay for your own damn pound of cure. I thought this thread was about buying your child birth control, not giving your child government funded birth control. Also, you seem to be saying any parent that doesn't give their daughter birth control will soon have an unplanned grandchild. I wonder how we avoided such situations, before parents bought their daughters birth control. It's amazing.
  11. Thank goodness we have objective, even-keeled people like yourself to help us along our path.
  12. The goverment provides food stamps (which can't be used for tobacco or alcohol) for a portion of the population, too. Does that allow it to prevent everyone from purchasing tobacco or alcohol?
  13. I don't think those are your only two options. You cannot with 100% confidence, prevent your daughter from having sex. Nor can you guarantee, "with 100% confidence", that she will use the condoms you gave her. These absolutes crack me up.
  14. Thank goodness we have objective, even-keeled people like yourself to help us along our path.
  15. And then there is the overwhelming majority of teenage girls, who don't get pregnant and have a decent reputation. Why do so many on this board seem to look at this as a simple "either... or" scenario?
  16. How many women, who get annual pap smears, die from cervical cancer? Or is this an "extremely stupid" question.
  17. I have no idea what you're talking about. I couldn't find anything on Nixon embracing pollution credits. Did he actually propose an initiative for them? Your poor knowledge of history is not my problem. The EPA introduced limited pollution credits in 1974. Please explain how Gore's paying $450/month neutralizes his $3000/month gas and power bill, as well as his frequent jet setting around the globe. What's your "ecological footprint"?
  18. I have no idea what you're talking about. I couldn't find anything on Nixon embracing pollution credits. Did he actually propose an initiative for them? In general, I think a program for trading pollution credits would be effective if everyone participated! These voluntary programs, like TerraPass, look like nothing more than a shell game, designed to ease environmentalist guilt. Please explain how Gore's paying $450/month neutralizes his $3000/month gas and power bill, as well as his frequent jet setting around the globe. What's your "ecological footprint"?
  19. Gore is doing the same thing that Bush and his predecessors have encouraged? Clinton was condemned repeatedly for doing precisely what his detractors were guilty of. ? What are you talking about?
  20. and other comments in your post on this topic.... like ............... this is you thinking of yourself first and what people may think of you should your child do this or that. Not you thinking of the well being of your child and/or the child they may create behind your back. Are you saying you would be fine with your daughter being the neighborhood slut? And that this would somehow benefit your daughter? What are you talking about?
